45 Take Me With You

Hui Yin looked down at her reflection in the swimming pool and gently disturbed it with the tip of her toe. The image of the somber girl vanished, replaced by soft ripples.

Along with it came the panicked shouts from inside the mansion.

"Where's Miss Huian?"

"She's not in the mansion!"

Lu Shen's furious eyes lasered in on Butler Wu's cheek. He ordered him coldly, "If you still want to live, go out and have a skin graft surgery immediately!"

Butler Wu ran out of the mansion faster than the speed of light. The boss hadn't forgotten his years of service! He didn't kill him on the spot!

Hui Yin, the cause of this entire debacle, was speechless. She didn't expect her words to have this much effect. It was only a kiss on the cheek! She expected him to be angry, but not to this extent...

Lu Shen took out his handkerchief and wiped her lips with it. His eyes were cold and inky black, like a bottomless ocean with surging waves hidden underneath.

His hands paused in the middle of wiping her lips and said, "Xiao Yin...I want to be gentle to you. I don't want you to be afraid of me. But what I want..."

He stopped. His eyes fell on the lips that turned swollen and red because of his intense wiping.

"I want..." His voice was quieter, now. Softer. "I want to eat you whole."

There was a dull ringing in Hui Yin's ears. Hungry, she thought. She didn't know why that particular word choice popped in her mind. Maybe because Hui Yin felt that Lu Shen seemed to be insatiably hungry.

As if he was going to devour her in the next second...

She stumbled back.

But then his eyes shuttered down, and that raw emotion was wiped away. He released Hui Yin and told her, "One week. I'll let your brother live for one week as long as you stay beside me and behave well. But after that...I'm done playing nice."

He left as soon as he said those words.

At her end, Hui Yin faithfully brought bottles of beer to Yue Lao every day. She found him waiting for her in front of the shrine she visited before. She couldn't even speak out loud to Yue Lao about her worries because Lu Shen was with her.

He was with her every second, every minute, and every hour of the day.

There were no restrictions to going out, she had the freedom to do as she pleased, but he followed her everywhere. He was closer to her than her own shadow. They even slept on the same bed, although Lu Shen obeyed the boundary pillow that Hui Yin placed between their bodies.

After the stunt Hui Yin had pulled that made Lu Shen think she had left him again, he became paranoid.

If she left him for a brief moment without telling him anything, Lu Shen would become irritable, his temper very unstable. She escaped him today and went to the swimming pool by herself because he had worked very late last night and slept deeply. He would usually wake up before her, but that was not the case early this morning.

So Hui Yin took the chance to grab back her personal space and went to the swimming pool to enjoy her cup of coffee. Although judging by the panicked voices of the maids inside the mansion, Lu Shen must have already woken up.

"I want to get out of here," Hui Yin complained to her coffee.

There were still two days left. She was stressed out with all the stuff she had to think about, like Hui Jinhai's safety, how Yue Lao would send her back to the present time, and if Lu Shen's sanity was still intact.

Hui Yin sighed deeply. It was all she seemed to do these days—sighing.

"I want to run away from everything."

Something clicked around her wrist, and Hui Yin looked down in surprise. There was a masculine hand next to hers, with fingers that was longer and broader than her own. She looked up at Lu Shen, who bound their wrists together with handcuffs. He sat next to her.

"If you want to run away, take me with you," he said, his eyes dark.

His hair was tousled, and there was still some traces of his fear in his eyes. He woke up, and she was gone.

Lu Shen had been living in a kind of an unreal world ever since he found out that Hui Yin was once again beside him. He was terrified that if he blinked too fast, or if she was gone out of his sight, she would disappear and he would return to the hell of the last twelve years. If he could, he wanted to drown in her, to swim in her blood and sink into her bones.

Lu Shen smiled and felt sorrow for himself. Sorrow that he ended up this way, turning into the kind of irrational man he used to look down on. But he didn't have any other way, because when it came to Xiao Yin, he could not afford to be careless. And struggling against it would only make his heart unable to breathe.

He couldn't lose her. If she left him again, it would truly kill him.

He couldn't afford to gamble, didn't dare to gamble, and could never gamble when it comes to her!

It was better if he was by her side all the time.

This way, she could not disappear.
