43 See You Soon

Hui Yin's question startled Hui Jinhai. He gave this seemingly ordinary girl another deep glance again. What did it matter to her if he felt nothing for his younger sister or not?

He spat out, "None of your business."

Towards the blood ties that he had abandoned in exchange for the love of the Wen family, Hui Jinhai didn't want to think about it.

In the first place, he never wanted a younger sister. When their mother was pregnant with Hui Yin, Hui Jinhai only felt sullen and abandoned. Despite being a child, he knew that their love would be halved once there was another competitor for their affection.

He didn't want that to happen.

Most importantly, he didn't want her!

Who wanted a sibling? He never asked for it, and he never wanted it. He was content being alone, and the only child that they could spoil.

When Hui Yin was born, Hui Jinhai thought she looked ugly. As she grew older, she became adorable and would follow him like a little tail everywhere he went. Soon enough, his sullen heart began to open up to her. It felt nice that someone was depending on him.

He began acting like a responsible older brother, always doting on her excessively. Hui Jinhai was the center of Hui Yin's world. He took care of her, protected her, and put her needs above his own. When their parents were still there, it only meant giving her a few of his snacks, being considerate, and bandaging her scraped knees.

But when their parents passed away, the responsibility that was put on his shoulders became a lot heavier. All of a sudden, they were short of money. He had to work several part-time jobs just to pay for their tuition fees. He was tired all the time. He never had time for himself.

And he had to attend Hui Yin's parental meetings on his own, console his younger sister's fears, do well at work, manage his time between friends and family...Hui Jinhai couldn't help but drink and smoke a lot from all the accumulating stress. He began having nighttime meetings with different girls to vent out his frustrations.

When he met Wen Qinyang, he was in a very bad state.

But it was only after he met her that he truly felt like he was young.

Hui Jinhai had inherited the same beautiful face as Hui Yin from their parents. What he didn't lack the most were women. But Wen Qinyang provided what he needed the most at that time: money, attention, and love. What he wanted, Wen Qinyang provided it for him. He had been acting like an older brother to Hui Yin for so long that his personality became adult-like.

Only when it came to Wen Qinyang that Hui Jinhai recovered his lost youth.

They went on numerous dates and had fun. Gradually, Hui Jinhai began to forget Hui Yin. He reverted back to when he was the only one being spoiled, with no younger sister to take care of.

Wen Qinyang's family was very welcoming to Hui Jinhai despite his low status. He felt like he was part of a family again. And when Wen Qinyang became pregnant, it only heightened his belief that he was part of the Wen family.

But it didn't last long.

Like a stack of cards being hit by a power fan, everything he had was once again toppled by an unstoppable force. For his first family, it was death.

For the Wen family, it was Lu Shen.

Lu Shen had a very high existence in Hui Jinhai's mind. He was beyond what mere ordinary people like him could touch. The young founder of the Lu Corporation whose skills in business could only be described as 'heaven-defying'. Everything he touched turned to gold. Even his father-in-law, Wen Zedong, was only his employee.

But when Lu Shen ruined the Wen family, Hui Jinhai snapped.

He didn't want to go through that hell again! He had only gotten back his 'family'!

So Hui Jinhai cooperated with Wen Zedong. He frequently visited him in jail, and talked about the triad connections that the old man had. Hui Jinhai worked hard every day to develop into a person that could threaten Lu Shen and still escape. He bribed Lu Shen's subordinate to cut the brake pipes in his car. He thought that it would be enough to kill him, but the bastard still survived.

And ironically enough, it was his forgotten younger sister who rescued him from his car accident.

Until now, Hui Jinhai didn't know if he cared about Hui Yin or not. When he discovered that it was her who saved Lu Shen's life, he thought that she was really dumb and annoying. But he still didn't kill her.

And later on, when the two of them had gotten married despite his threat, Hui Jinhai didn't try to trespass in their home. Most of it was due to the fact that Lu Shen had tightened his security, but a small part of Hui Jinhai didn't want to know what he would do if his younger sister interfered in his plans.

He observed them when they divorced, when a new woman replaced her, and when Hui Yin pleaded outside their gates. Then, his own father-in-law killed her and Lu Shen's baby.

His heart that had long dried up began to stir. Grief, sadness, glee at getting revenge at Lu Shen, relief...and anger.

He was angry at Wen Zedong.

He initially helped him avoid Lu Shen's pursuit after the hit and run, but that was their last contact. That was why he didn't know that Wen Zedong had been captured. If he had known, maybe he wouldn't be so careless. But, it was too late for regrets now.

Hui Jinhai ignored the girl interrogating him and stared at the white ceiling of his prison room.

Wen Qinyang, our unborn child, my parents and mèi mei...I'll see all of you in the afterlife soon.

I just hope that you won't be too disappointed in me.
