Earth Is Too Bland

Earth is too bland. This is the thought I have every morning when I wake up, in the afternoons when I'm in school, in the evening at dinner, and at night as the last thing in my mind before I go to sleep. If I ever leave Earth and enter the world of the webnovels I read, I would have no regrets. This, of course, is just a thought. It's something that can never happen. Why? because the earth is too bland.

*knock, knock, knock*

"Jophiel!!! Its time to go to school. Your sister is already ready!"

It was a bright and sunny day. In the bathroom mirror, a 16-year-old boy could be seen with all physical aspects slightly passing average with a height of 174cm (5 feet 7), his slightly childish face was oval with a smoothly tapered jaw, concave nose and a well-defined cupid bow. Anyone could tell that with a little more refinement he would definitely reach society's standards of a handsome boy. He gargled a little and spat, completing the process of brushing his teeth.

He smiled at the mirror satisfied and replied,

"be right there mom!"

He completed freshening up and went down to meet his family. On the table awaited his sister, Ria, his mother, Lia, and his ever calm faced father John. They were the Cadra family

His family watched as he approached the table,

"good morning father, good morning mother, how did you sleep sister."

Jophiel completed his customary greetings and couldn't help but think

'Hah the dull ness of it all'. He definitely couldn't live like this anymore.

They all said their pleasantries, began to eat and started another beautiful boring day.

Actually, it wasn't all bad. Jophiel had quite a pleasing family. His parents loved each other and were caring and thoughtful towards him and his sister. They also worked hard to provide more for their family. They had a stable income, so they were neither rich nor poor. Everything was good, great even, but everything was ordinary. Out there in the world there were millions of families with the same status as them. Sure, there are families worse or better than them, but the fact of the matter is that they are nothing special. Everything on earth was identical, too identical. He thought about this for the millionth time as he walked his sister to school. If you think about it, no one on Earth is special. There is someone out there living a life identical to yours, groomed in the same way as you, and therefore, you have similar character or personality traits. Even though there may be minor differences, you may have met this person, or you may have not. They might look like you, or they might not. Everything is so random yet the same!

The only person that can ever be truly different is the person at the top. Whoever is at the top must be so unique that no one can stand side by side with him, he must have achieved in a way that no one else has, but Earth does not even have such a person. Bland!

As he drops his sister off, he turns on the corner and walks a little more before he reaches his destination, 3rd provincial high school. He is a freshman, so everything is supposed to be new and exciting. But nope, it was all the same, the delinquents, the goody two shoes, the wallflowers, the followers and the leaders. He conveniently was, of course, a wallflower. He didn't have the energy or the ambition to be anything more. Anticlimactic right? The reason is simple, he just...

*riiiiing*

Oop there's the bell.

Jophiel is conveniently seated in the back as a beautiful teacher walks in, and of course, as if it were a script, all the males turn towards her, eyes focused, as she reveals a smile that is unintentionally charming, forcing all eyes to focus on her as she elegantly began the lesson. Hahhh, can anything exciting happen. Must it be the same boring old script of the teaching beauty? Jophiel stares out the window as he continues to ponder on life's meaning. There was not much to ponder on, though. The answer was right in front of him, nothing. There was no meaning. Think about it, anything you do, there's someone who has done or who will do the same thing.

"Jophiel! what is your goal for the future. What do you want to do after high school? What do you want to focus on in college" the teacher asked.

Ahhhhhh, the famous question. This is the answer to why Jophiel had no ambition. Everyone lives life the same way after graduating from college. You struggle to get a good job, get a wife, get a family, and if you survive, you wait for grandchildren. At the end lays death. Whether you achieve these things or not. How much more boring can life get? It is like a book where the beginning and end are written, with the end known right from the start! How frustrating! How boring!

The only choice I get to make through education is the method I use to earn money. What's the point of career paths, any career I choose someone else has chosen and they either have more talent, more experience or more drive to succeed in that field. I personally would go with the trend and choose a course connected to computer programming because it's in high demand. With this job, I'll earn a stable income that's above average, follow the norm, and get married and have a family... unless something unexpected happens in this time of self-discovery. I may find out I'm gay and later choose to marry a man. Unlikely due to my pleasant morning dreams, but possible. Regardless, I'll live the life of a working man till I grow old. So what's the point of investing so much passion in it? These thoughts were interrupted as the teacher repeated sternly, "Jophiel what do you want to be."

Welp, that was the end of the beloved seductive smile.

Suddenly smiling to make up for his previous lack of attention, Jophiel stood up to answer the question, "I'd like to be a computer programmer."

The teacher nods and motions for him to take his seat. She gives the same old boring speech on how our career paths may change, the difficulties in achieving them, and to keep our eyes open for other appealing careers. To be honest, he didn't want to be a programmer. Lawyer, doctor, he wanted to do it all. He wanted to experience it all, but with our limited time on earth, that's simply impossible. Just like being at the top is impossible, the earth is structured in such a way that power is balanced. Everyone was afraid of offending someone, and the gap in power was so small that if someone became too much, the others could join forces to pull him down.

*sigh*

The rest of the classes followed the same format, without an extraordinarily beautiful teacher, of course, and...

*ring*

The day finally ended. He picked up his sister, went home and had dinner with his family. They all went to bed, but he stayed up. He couldn't sleep. He could only continue thinking about the millionth and tenth reason why Earth is bland. Tired of his own thoughts, he moved to his window, opened it, and relished the feel of fresh air. He sighted an object from his window and said in his signature tone of boredom but with a hint of frustration this time,

"A shooting star? I've never seen one of those. I don't have any wishes but if you're from the heavens it's important for you to know life's a b*tch and your earth stinks."

It may have been his imagination because, for a split second, the comet seemed to slow or pause. It was unclear because it was just a split second. He may have just blinked. As the change was not prominent, he continued,

"Whats the point in making a world so predictable, where nothing changes. The beginning and end have been set so what was your f***ing point. Is it fun to watch us needlessly struggle till we die?"

At this time, he was shouting as though releasing all his pent-up rage. Rage at the ignorant people, rage at the redundancy of it all, rage at his inability to change anything, and most of all, rage at the earth for its cruel existence. He continued,

"People everywhere struggling and suffering to leave what when they die?? Tell me that and I'll be sooo grateful. No in fact take me to a world where things can be different. No worlds!!! one world won't be much different. Why am I being forced to live like this why???"

He said, screaming out the frustration of many.

After his tantrum, all strength seemed to have left him as a bout of sleepiness suddenly overcame him. With no hesitation, he went to his bed for a good night's sleep. Like he did not notice the odd movement of the comet he also did not notice its odd shape, but none of these mattered to Jophiel as he was immersed in a sleep like never before. In his dream, he saw all he had experienced in his time on Earth. His mother, his father, his sister, his schools, his friends, everything passed by for what seemed like an eternity till it was all white.
