2 Prologue 2: Emery

Emery's PoV:

I watched as the small girl's frame disappeared out of the door. I felt every fiber of my being compelling me to follow her. Pain seeped into my chest as she disappeared from my view. Something in me told me to never let her out of my sight. I felt attached to her, like an invisible chain linked me to her, and that I'd never be able to forget her or live without her again. Nothing else mattered to me, not that I could remember much. I scrambled out of the bed and threw my clothes on, then laced up my black combat boots. I only now took in the strange scent that wafted throughout the small house. I ran to the door.

"Wait-"Mezoli reached for me, but I evaded his grasp.

I burst through the door, my eyes scrapping over every inch of the woods searching for her silhouette.

"Hey-"Mezoli placed his hand on my shoulder, "Woah you're a big fella."He stepped back.

"We'll find her."He inched outside. His movements confused me, he was light on his feet, it was like he barely even touched the ground.

"I know you not."I glared at him.

"And you were in my house. A man's home is his castle, you invaded. I should kill you, instead I am offering to help you."He leaned back into the doorway, ignoring my strange speech pattern.

"I haven't had anything interesting come along in a while. You don't have to, but I'm going to find her. She was beautiful." He raced into the woods. His dirty blonde hair shined under the light of the sun.

I stood in silence as the wind blew into my large frame, then I took off in the direction of the strange scent that fell off of Mezoli.

I sniffed the pungently stale air as I tried to pick up her scent.

"She said her name was Ryan."Mezoli watched carefully as I sniffed about the trees.

I inhaled her sweet scent. Then the foul stench of chemicals began to mix with hers.

"She was taken."I said bitterly.

"How long have you known her?"He gave me a sympathetic glance, as if I'd lost someone I'd known for my entire life, strangely that's how it felt.

"Not long. I indeed met her only earlier this day."I brushed off his expression that changed from sympathetic to confused.

"You have only known her for less than one day and yet you feel so strongly attached?"He looked at me with bewilderment.

"I know not why I feel this way, only that I do."I huffed, walking towards the mixture of chemical and her scent.

Mezoli followed closely behind me. He wore an intricate white suit. With a black shirt sleeved under shirt.

"How do you afford such clothing, yet live in such a place?"I know what I said was on the rude side, but I wanted to know.

"Are you saying my place is a dump?"He said with smirk.

I ignored his playful tone, I felt my focus growing sharper and sharper on this Ryan girl. She was unlike anything I'd ever seen. She was so short, she couldn't have stood taller than 5'3", she had long beautiful curly brown hair and gorgeous brown eyes. Her body was curvy, an hour-glass form. She was stunning in everyway. Her face was lovely.

"Mezoli, be serious."I sighed, as I stepped over a large black root.

"Call me Mez. I don't like my full name."He looked like he had been stabbed by someone he loved.

"My parents gave me the name Mezoli. But because of what I am, no one accepts me."He spoke slowly with a grave tone.

I felt anger well up in me at the thought of someone taking Ryan.

He must have seen the desperation in my eyes for he placed his hand on my shoulder.

"I promise we will find her."He said gently with a small, comforting smile.

The trees towered over us, casting gloom upon all who entered, yet there was a simple beauty to my surroundings, it brought me ease.

The scent of Ryan & chemicals got stronger. I couldn't help but feel a minute happiness well up inside me, but it quickly faded when I saw Ryan in the hands of some guy who was built. An array of black tattoos covered his body, veins rippled out from his arms and his bald head glistened in the light. She was unconscious. He placed her in the back of a carriage. I began to rush towards them, when Ryan suddenly opened her brown eyes and slashed at the large man with a blade. He wrenched back, pressing his hand against his eyes as blood spilled between his fingers.

"You bitch!"He lunged towards her, holding his injured eye with his hand. She screamed at him before jumping on him, she wrapped her legs around his neck, then plunged the knife into his temple, he fell over like a great tree. She untangled her thick legs from around his neck and stood up, she was trembling.

Before I knew it, I had run up to her, without hesitation my arms had swaddled her. She began to cry. A river of tears flowed from her eyes, light drained from them, being overtaken by darkness.

All I could do was hold her. I didn't know how to make her feel better. I couldn't do anything for her, except hold her and protect her. I didn't know why I felt so strongly for her, but all I knew was that I did, and that I'd never let anything happen to her.

"I promise to always protect you."I whispered, stroking her head.

"You don't even know me."She sniffled.

But I felt like my soul knew her, it did, my soul recognized her immediately. I may not have known her in this life, but it was clear I had met her or her soul before in a previous life.

"I'll never let you be alone again."

She quivered under my intense grip, her tears flowed harder after I had said those words. I think she knew. But I couldn't be sure.

"I won't either."Mezoli wrapped his pale, thin but muscled arms around us.

I think...I think this was the beginning of a family.
