10 Little Cold Lights

Wendy Looked up at Isabella with confusion on her face. "Whats happening?! My power is gone!"

Isabella was still staring at the unconscious Lissa. "This is called a gods stone of retaliation."

"It was used to suppress the powers of witches."

After looking at Lissa herself Wendy sighed. "Maybe I did something with my power that caused some damage but why would it effect everyone?"

Isabella went to the door opening it she called in the guard. "Come, help carry Lissa next door."

The guard tensed for a moment then conceded. For him the young witch was light and easy to carry.

Isabella proceeded in front followed by the guard holding Lissa and Wendy trailing behind. Isabella opened the door to another spacious room, entered and pulling back the covers of the luxurious bed motioning for the guard to deposit Lissa. Once he had she nodded dismissing him.

After situating Lissa in bed Isabella tried again to find out what had happened from Wendy but she was clueless. Placing a light stone by the bed Isabella motioned to the bookshelf full of books. "If you cannot sleep perhaps read till she wakes, then find out what this danger was that would have destroyed us all."

Wendy protested, "But... Isabella, we've come in our nightclothes. I need to go get.."

Isabella cut her off "No, you don't. Its time you cast off those rags anyway."

A short time later Isabella returned with two dark blue almost black sets of perfect new clothing that she draped on the luxurious chairs of this spacious room. then hung two large cotton robes on the coat rack. Isabella looked back for a moment at Wendy's surprised face, she sat in the four-posted bed next to Lissa reading. Isabella nodded, then exited the room returning to bed herself.

Many hours later, Lissa finally began to stir and wake, the timepiece on the wall said it was well into the morning.

"Wendy?" Lissa said as she woke in a warm silky bed much softer than the bunks they usually slept on. Wendy closed the book on wildlife that she had been reading.

"Lissa! you finally woke!" Wendy said.

"Where are we?" Lissa said looking at the exquisite silk sheets.

"Isabella has given us new clothes and.. " she trailed off looking over at a table with food spread apon it. Suddenly full of hunger, Lissa jumped out of the bed, rushing over to the table in her night clothes. The food was cold but Lissa was famished as they hadn't eaten In a day.

Wendy laughed and joined her at the table. She pulled out a chair for Lissa to sit on. As Lissa sat she noticed the odd blue Crystal stone. Tied to a crude leather strap it looked like a poor person's necklace, sitting atop Wendy's growing chest. She stopped eating for a moment as Wendy sat down, then slowly resumed eating the biscuit in her hand.

Wendy noticed her gaze and glanced down at the semi-jewel. "This is called a gods stone of retaliation." "Quite a long name if you ask me."

"It represses my magic power." Wendy said as she picked out some food.

Lissa seemed relieved and continued to eat till she was satisfied.

Once she had finished she got up and came over to Wendy solemnly and lifted the stone over her head. Lissa carried it to the other side of the room then glanced back at Wendy.

"Is your power back?" she asked

Wendy nodded wide eyed as all the chill in the air had gone away.

"Now let us carefully investigate, Don't do anything rash" Lissa cautioned returning to her side.

"Wendy do you see anything?" Lissa asked nervously.

Wendy closed her eyes and concentrated, then opening her eyes she looked around as if chasing dust-motes. "Oh! there are many things floating around! Almost as if there is an ocean of things!"

Lissa looked around with concern, "What do they look like?"

Wendy made a troubled expression. "I've... never seen anything like these things they come in many sizes some stuck together in patterns..."

"I could probably manipulate them with my power.." Wendy added.

"Manipulate how?" Lissa said caution in her voice.

"Well I can move them around.. change some of the patterns..." Wendy said thoughtfully.

"And.. I could probably split even the smallest ones..." Wendy brought her hand up as if about to chop an imaginary object.

"STOP!! NOT THAT!!!" Lissa snatched her hand stopping her. "NEVER DO THAT!"

Wendy had stopped and looked at Lissa's fearful face, surprise on her own.

"Lissa ... was.. was that.. what I did?" Wendy asked quietly.

Lissa nodded solemnly. "Yes, what ever you do to those tiniest things, never do that." Lissa sternly instructed.

Wendy sat still, and Lissa rushed to change the topic. "Do any of the objects or patterns have something in common?"

"Uh.. lets see..." She squinted her eyes as they darted around taking in all the different tiny shapes.

A sudden realization came over her and she felt a burning in her chest. "Lights"

"All of them have lights spinning around them... "

Lissa stared at Wendy in wonder. As she watched Wendy's brilliant green eyes, a tiny dot of light began to circle within both of her cornea. Still clutching her hand Lissa quickly closed her eyes and concentrated for a moment, then relief flooded her face.

"Wendy? how do you feel?" she said opening her eyes.

"Huh? my chest was warm inside." Wendy said seeming to come back from her own trance to look at Lissa.

"You Just became more powerful." Lissa stated looking at Wendy proudly.

Wendy looked puzzled so she glanced at where the spinning vortex had been in her chest. Where it once was, there was now a glowing orb with a single light orbiting it.

"Lissa! the vortex changed! it condensed into ..." Wendy looked into Lissa's brown eyes and saw only puzzlement.

"Lissa I think I know where the magic comes from..." Wendy said.

"What do you mean?" Lissa asked.

"Lissa I want to try something.. can you see if it would work out OK?" Wendy said with an earnest look on her face.

Lissa nodded and closed her eyes still gripping Wendy's hand. After a moment Lissa opened them suddenly as though startled. Then started to laugh, releasing Wendy's hand and gripping her belly.

Once she'd stopped laughing she looked at Wendy. "Ok you can do it.. just be gentle."

Wendy took a deep breath and reached out her hand to touch Lissa's chest.

As Wendy touched Lissa's chest, between her breasts Lissa closed her eyes.

Seeking within Wendy could see Lissa's spinning vortex of magic glowing a light blue.

Gently she condensed the power from the vortex and pulled back to allow it to take shape.

Wendy watched carefully as she lowered her hand. The vortex slowly condensed forming what looked like a blue eye.

Lissa moaned and shuddered moving her hands to her breasts which grew noticeably. Wendy stared at Lissa's hands for a moment then looking down noticed she had also grown another size herself.

"Wendy." Lissa said, "look into my eyes."

Wendy looked up and Lissa opened them to reveal a pair of startling faintly glowing blue eyes where the brown ones once were.
