First day 19

"I don't want to cut my hair", I said for the umpteenth time.

"But everyone does it post break up", she argued back.

"I don't think that we broke up. I'm not sure that it was a relationship either", I told her. Liar it was a relationship at least from my end. But I can't confess it to her. I can barely admit it to myself.

"Fine your wish hair cutting is a therapy if you must know. I'm not asking you to shave your head", she told me.

I shook my head at her. I don't get her. One can't simply get over someone by cutting their hair or colouring it. Besides I thought he liked my hair and I would like to keep it. I know I had a long way to go.

"I have to get ready to the office", I said numbly.

"Go take a shower before you reek of sadness. If you take more than five minutes then I would break the door because I think there is a chance that you might slit your wrists. I sighed. I wasn't that bad maybe I was who am I to know?

I took a shower and put myself over the painful process of getting dressed. I didn't get Bi's approval though I would be worried if she liked it anyway.

I took my car put cursing myself that it didn't start at first. I knew it had a long overdue visit to the mechanic. I have been delaying it for sometime. But I should do it soon probably today. I could get a ride back home on Uber. I have been a bit over budget thanks to the visits at pubs.

I reached the office. It was beautiful place. It was what a True corporation look like elegant, poised and perfect. I got out. I was wearing the perfect dress for the occasion a skirt and shirt along with a coat. I know I won't be winning any pageants but it will definitely work for an office.

I went to the reception first. She took a one look at my dress and dismissed me. I didn't mind her. I was here to work not to please someone with my dressing sense. She gave me a card to enter the office and rushed me off. I used my card and managed to get inside miraculously because I was sure that I didn't use it the right way.

I asked for Henry. I know they raised their brow at calling him by first name. But I didn't know his last name. And he never asked me to call him sir anyways.

I walked into the office. I saw him nose deep in laptop. I knocked the door. He looked at me and gave me motion to get inside. I got inside. He was working so he didn't get inside solely on the basis of nepotism so I had hopes of rising here. I have to work here and chase away any reminiscing sadness.

"Hi", he said. He had brightened up to see me. I smiled back professionally. I don't want him to get any bad idea though.

"I'm happy that you have joined finally. I wa afraid that you were keeping me in the loop. How was the vacation?", he asked me.

"OK", I told him. I didn't want to lie that it was perfect. I had experienced both highest and lowest point in that luxury hotel room.

"Alrighty I will hook you up with Tamara she can give you a run through everything important", he told me. I nodded my heard grateful.

I hoped Tamara was a little better than the receptionist. I waited for a few minutes he quickly made the call. He did not go back to working instead looked at me. It was a little awkward.

"I will go outside. I don't want to disturb you", I told him.

"No I have finished it. Don't worry about it. I'm more interested in your vacation. Tell me where you went?", he asked.

"Dubai", I said with reluctance.

"Good I have been there very nice place. Did you visit Burj Khalifa the tallest building in the world?", he asked.

"Umm no", I said. I just want to escape from his interrogation but I doubt I can.

Thankfully the door knocked and I looked to see a slightly chubby girl coming towards us with a smile.

"Tamara this is Maya Stevens the new recruitment. Can you please give her all the necessary information to survive?", he asked her.

"Sure", she said with a welcoming smile.

"Come", she said. I followed her out. She took me to an empty desk and made me sit. It was very comfortable.

"You will get your cabin once you pass three months here", she said to me.

"Is that tough?", I asked her.

"Not that much considering the fact everyone here is friendly except the receptionist Laura. She is mean to everyone especially the woman who happens to be prettier than her. If she hates you consider it a complement", she told me.

"She doesn't hate me", I lied to her.

"I find it hard to believe", she told me. I shrugged my shoulder. I didn't want to bad mouth anyone on the first day.

"Whatever. Take your time get used to the wonderful company. You will like it. Plus you have Henry on your back so you don't have to worry much about the job", she told me.

"Henry is not my friend", I told her.

"OK. I thought he knew you", she said confused.

"Well my best friend's boyfriend knew Henry. He is the one who set up my interview and thankfully I passed", I told her.

"OK. Good", she said with a smile.

"What is my job?", I asked her.

"You just got here. Get comfortable you will work soon. But Henry says no work for the newbies on the first day. He says it boosts employee morale. But he is a good boss", she told me. I smiled in response.
