2 Reincarnated as a...

My index finger got caught between the charger and the outlet. Right on my wound.

Blood leaked from my finger, some dripping onto the floor and some into the outlet.

So this is what it feels like to be "plugged in".

A tremendous wave of shock flowed through my veins, to my neck, to my face, to my eyes. I could see nothing but white. My eyes felt like they were a meter away from the sun.

Slowly the pain from the shock faded, and I started seeing...

Little trains made of 0's and 1's?

Wait a second.

I was seeing bytes?

It felt amazingly weird; bytes darted beside me, going at superluminal speed. But to my eyes, they were just slowly strolling.

I looked behind me, and my mind froze.

I was a byte?

What the hell.

I got reincarnated as a damn byte?

My ego just dropped by a million miles.

There were some situations where I thought I was just a little dust in a vast desert, a droplet in an ocean. But this... I was a single byte in a universe that contains nearly infinite petabytes?

There was no time to think, though. I needed to dodge the incoming bytes so we didn't crash into one another. I tried going faster so I could find the exit, but you can't run if you don't have legs.

Or can you?

I tried concentrating everywhere possible on my "body". And the only place possible was my brain.

And it worked!

I was jetting fast as a flash, towards an imaginary exit from this tunnel.

It was at that moment I realized that I can't slow down. And I was about to crash.

That was a short second life, I thought.

But instead of crashing with the incoming byte train, I absorbed it. And my body got bigger.

So I could "eat" others?

I swiftly transitioned from dodging incoming byte trains to intentionally hitting them, and absorbing them. And eventually, my body was so big I stretched from the bottom of the "tunnel" I was in all the way up to the ceiling.

If I absorbed another byte, I'd break open this tunnel. But now I was too big to dodge anything. Trains crashed into me.

And I broke open the tunnel.

The white I was used to faded as blues and greens filled it. I looked around me. Green grass. Blue sky. Other bytes that escaped when I broke out.

Wait.

If I don't repair the tunnel, more byte trains will escape. I looked at the fibre.

Shockingly, it started to repair itself.

In my years of studying biology, physics, and computer sciences, I've never heard of electric cords fixing themselves like a blood vein of a human.

Well, at least I didn't have to do anything.

The small byte trains around me wanted to run off, so I just absorbed all of them.

I then examined the world I was in. There was a little human town within sight from the forest I was located in. The sun had a hue of red a lot deeper than that of my old world's sun.

From what I saw at that moment, I was in Aeon, the realm that I cannot be more used to - the realm from Crest Chronicles.

I wasn't sure what the town was called as I've not been here when I was playing the game, but it was surely a small town in the Kingdom of Stiria, the only human-based nation in Aeon.

Well, that information was really helpful right now, considering I was a blob of 1's and 0's. Surely everyone in town would find me friendly.

"I got an idea," I muttered to myself after thinking for a bit.

I tried constructing a stem cell. This was a university-tier science lab with ten times the difficulty.

After countless attempts, I was able to construct a stem cell that can duplicate itself inside my body. I programmed the DNA and RNA myself. I did the work of every part of a cell. I made proteins. I made chromosomes. I was working for myself.

Huh, that phrase sounds familiar. Except I wasn't really working for myself. I was working hard overtime and not getting paid, and my boss was an oversized fetus. And I was that fetus.

It felt like a day (even though it was barely a second) when I finally took the form of a human boy. I've never appreciated biology this much.

I moved my right hand into my sight. It had the structure of a human hand, but it was still just 1's and 0's.

Back to coding, I guess.

After another "day", I was able to give myself a very pale skin (due to the lack of pigment).

I moved around a little, getting used to being human again, then decided that it's about time to go to town.

Then I realized a more realistic problem. I was naked.

How am I supposed to get clothes without being seen as a maniac?

"I got an idea," I muttered to myself again after thinking for a bit, again.

I tried concentrating power and dashing, just like I did when I was still a small byte train. And I darted at a speed faster than light, straight to the hot spring I saw earlier. Good, I thought. Everyone is naked here.

Men and women were separated, for obvious reasons. I was afraid of washing my newly formed skin, so I stood on the side of the spring with men looking at me like a weirdo.

"Kid," the lifeguard tapped my shoulder. "You goin' in or no?"

I could understand them?

"Um..." I stuttered as I tried to come up with an excuse. "I... My only set of clothes got stolen, so I'm trying to look for them."

What a great excuse. Flawless.

"Oh," the lifeguard replied. "Well, I s'pose you ain't gonna get anywhere near findin' your clothes without wearin' anything, so... here, I'll borrow you this bathrobe to wear before you find your clothes."

That man was a saviour.
