I'll Keep You Safe, I Promise

He settled himself next to her on the bed, his voice low and soothing as he began to sing. Helena listened to the sound of Arthur's voice, the song's words washing over her, and she felt herself slowly relax. She closed her eyes, letting the sound of his voice fill her senses. As the song ended, she felt herself sinking deeper into the mattress, her breathing even and steady.

"Thanks. That was beautiful," she murmured, her eyes still closed.

"Anything for you, my love," Arthur said, caressing her face.

And for the second time, he sang; it was a soft, lilting melody that Helena didn't recognize, but it was beautiful nonetheless. She kept her eyes close and let the sound of his voice wash over her, and soon enough, she felt herself drifting off to sleep.

Arthur stayed awake all night, checking the window to see if there was any movement outside and watching Helena peacefully sleeping. He watches Helena with a soft expression. Her body was still and relaxed in the bed. Her breathing is slow and rhythmic, her face serene. The moon's light casts a gentle glow on her face, making her look almost angelic in its luminescence. He is filled with an indescribable peace, knowing she is safe in his arms.

At 3 in the morning, Arthur gently shook Helena's shoulder to wake her up. "Baby, wake up," he said softly.

Helena stirred from her sleep, her eyelids heavy and her mind foggy. She groggily glanced up at Arthur, who was sitting on the bed. Only then did she realize it was 3 o'clock in the morning; at the time, they agreed to leave for the campsite.

"Baby, it's time," Arthur said gently, a soft smile on his lips as he held out his hand. Helena allowed him to help her up. "It's 3 in the morning. We should go," he said, trailing a finger on her cheek.

Helena nodded as she hugged Arthur, still feeling lazy to move out of bed. "I think I should gargle my mouth first," she laughed.

Arthur chuckled. "I think so too."

"Is it so bad?" She said, pressing her face on Arthur's chest, a bit humiliated

"No, I'm kidding, baby," he said, pressing little kisses on her forehead. "Do you want to head to the bathroom and freshen up? I can carry your things outside while you do that."

"Yes, please..."

Arthur quickly gathered Helena's things and got into the pickup truck. He returned and took his things and, lastly, their food supplies. By the time Helena was out of the bathroom, Arthur had put all their stuff in the pickup truck.

"Baby, are you ready? Let's go."

Helena nodded, carrying her toiletries, and took Arthur's hand. She followed him out of the house and into the dawn. The sky was clear, with a full moon illuminating their path. She couldn't help but feel anxious as they drove, constantly looking behind them to make sure they weren't being followed.

Helena nervously bit her lip as they drove, fear gripping her heart at what might lie ahead. But with each mile closer to their destination, Helena felt herself growing more and more calm. By the time they reached the edge of a grassy meadow, Helena was feeling confident and prepared for whatever lay beyond.

"Those people were gone last night. Their only goal was to scare the fuck out of us." Arthur looked at Helena with a satisfied expression before continuing into the meadow.

"Probably."

"I'll keep you safe, I promised," Arthur put a hand on her shoulder and smiled warmly.

"I know," she smiled back at him.

As they drove through the tall grasses and trees, Helena took in all of its beauty – from how the stars twinkled above them to how dew glistened on every blade of grass in sight – this place indeed seemed like something out of a dream.

As they finally reached the meadow's center, Helena looked around anxiously for any signs of danger. But there were none to be seen.

When they arrived at the campsite, Arthur unloaded all their supplies while Helena took care of their bags and personal pieces of stuff. After that, Arthur immediately got to work, setting up traps and ensuring they were well hidden. Helena watched him work in silence, admiring his strength and determination.

As he worked, Helena felt a pang of guilt deep within her chest. She wished she could do something to help, but she had never been the outdoorsy type who could do what Arthur was doing.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked, breaking the silence.

Arthur looked up from his work, a small smile on his lips. "Just stay here with me and keep me company."

"Yeah, I'll prepare you a coffee, and I'll cook breakfast later on."

He nodded. "I'd love some coffee and eat breakfast prepared by you later. For now, I need to get this work done."

Arthur continued setting up the traps while Helena started boiling water. As the water boiled, Helena rummaged through their supplies to find the coffee and a couple of mugs. She quickly made coffee for Arthur, adding a dash of cream to make it just how he liked it.

"Here you go, baby," she said, handing him the steaming mug of coffee.

"Thanks, baby," Arthur said, taking a sip and sighing in contentment. "This is just what I needed."

Helena smiled and diligently prepared breakfast, cracking eggs into a bowl, sizzling bacon strips in the pan, and setting out freshly sliced bread.

As the sun began to rise and Arthur finished setting up the last of his traps, Helena felt a wave of relief wash over her. She couldn't believe how lucky she was to have him by her side.

Arthur turned to Helena and wiped the sweat from his brow with his forearm, a proud smile on his lips.

"We should be safe now," he said.

Helena stepped closer to him and took his hand in hers, feeling incredibly lucky to have such an incredible man by her side.

"Thank you, Arthur. I don't know what I would do without you."

Arthur brought her hand to his lips and kissed it before locking eyes with her. His gaze was filled with warmth and love, and Helena felt a lump in her throat at how tender he looked.

"You don't have to worry, my love," he said softly. "I'll always be here to protect you."

Arthur sniffed the smell of the food filling the air, making his mouth water. "Is that breakfast I smell?"

"Yep," Helena said, grinning at him. "It's almost ready. Just a few more minutes."

"I can't wait to eat that," Arthur smirked. He cupped Helena's face softly. Helena couldn't help but think dirty of what Arthur just said.

"In the meantime, how about you change your shirt? You're sweating," she said, eyeing Arthur's damp shirt.

"Do I smell bad?" Arthur asked, sniffing himself.

"No, baby, you always smell good, even when sweating. Remember?" Helena had a naughty smirk that drove Arthur crazy.

Arthur went to his tent to change his shirt and went out on time; the food was done. "I hope you're hungry," Helena said with a smile as she set the plate of food in front of him.

"Starving," Arthur replied.

Helena froze as she heard a loud snap coming from behind the tent. She slowly turned her head, her heart pounding rapidly in her chest. Every nerve in her body was on high alert, and fear started to creep inside her.

"Arthur, do you think something's out there?" Her voice now shaking with terror.

"It's probably nothing, but I'll go check," he said to reassure her. But it did little to settle Helena's nerves.
