1 1

The beeping sound of a machine echoing inside the room, numerous tubes lined up in front of her keeping her breathing stable.

A large glass separating my world from hers, a hair cap covering her bald head, a blue gown hiding her frail body, and the fog that emits when she breathes through her oxygen mask.

Looking at her thin and frail figure makes my body want to crumble. She wasn't supposed to be the one laying on that bed, she shouldn't be using such an absurd amount of machinery just to stay alive.

Yet, here I am. Standing well and healthy, my palm touching a thick glass trying so hard to touch you.

This isn't part of the promise we made.

I can feel it, the weight of guilt piling up on my shoulder as I continue to gaze upon your almost dying body.

"Seven! Quit staring at those bodies, our duty comes first" A man called me out from across the corridor.

"Yes Sir!"

I took one last glance inside her room before mumbling a few words. With a clenched fist I ran to the person who called me.

"Seven where's your mask? suit up faster we're heading out"

His words were tense, it seems that they are making a move again. Monstrosities that came out from the depths of the blue sea, creatures with legs stretching 4 meters long, large elongated bodies, and four large wings that can cause strong winds when flapping. Flying up in the sky they would scatter a special powder that was created inside their body and were released through the flapping of their wings.

It was called Death's Dust, it was an extremely contagious powder that had lots of cancer cells inside. Which means the moment it touches you numerous amounts of cancer cells would instantly enter your body, causing others to faint, vomit, weaken, paralyzed, or worse cardiac arrest.

With these creatures roaming up in the skies there was no chance of survival, so the only option was to stay inside facilities, and currently I'm in a building where those who were affected by the powder are held. Looking at all of them and seeing how this world is crumbling to its core because of monsters from the deep seems unrealistic. But it is the reality we are in.

"Seven! wake up!" A voice spoke through the headset I was wearing.

"Sorry, I'm ready"

Sitting in this enclosed space can really kill those with claustrophobia, the large glass that allowed me to see a 360°, having to fly these planes dubbed as Executors was the least we can do to defend the land that is ours.

"Let's kick the tires and light the fires!" the general screamed through the radio. It was followed by the screams of the others with their hands raised and were cheering for victory.

"All right ladies, run-way's ready! Let's go and kill those bastards!!" A man declared on the radio.

The thundering sound of engines, the sound of wind passing through the plane's body. I watched as one by one planes began to pass through the run-way with extreme speed. About 20 planes were supposed to take off, each of them split into four groups so it would be easier to spread. I was with a newly appointed commander along with three others, he was known for being an arrogant fool but he was extremely capable in exterminating thus he gained rank after rank.

"This is Seven heading to the run-way"

It was a moment of silence for me to say such things as the war we were heading could kill us in the blink of an eye.

"Be safe Seven..." A crippled voice replied to me.

I took a glance to the radio tower and caught a glimpse of a figure waving its hand inside. I took a deep breath and whispered before slowly raising the plane's throttle. Everything was going slow from inside the cockpit and in under a few seconds I was already up in the sky following 3 planes that were ahead of me.

Looking at the light colored clouds turned to sudden darkness sent shivers down my spine. This is our everyday view, soaring through the skies with vehicles capable of turning countries upside down.

"Ladies, we're going up. Radar's got visual on them monsters"

His words were too light, he was talented as a fighter but not as a leader. Everyone knew that except for the newly recruited members that were with us, and now they're about to witness it in the worst possible way...

The sudden change of altitude caused the planes to wobble, while our view swiftly turned pitch black. A strong gust of wind destroyed our formation leaving me alone in this void of black clouds alone, signals jammed, radars not working.

"Hello? This is Executer Seven, can anyone hear me?" I said as I continued to pilot the plane that was starting to lose power, is this the end for me? probably.

Staring into nothing but darkness, continuing to fly in this place which felt like hours I was losing hope.

"If this was my end then I'd like to end this war as well" were the only thoughts that came through my head.

A glimpse of light then appeared from a distance, a small hope sparked inside of me. I pushed the throttle to the max heading straight to the light, until a voice whispered.

"Don't go..."

Her voice, I heard it. The radio suddenly turned on with numerous screams from the ones I was flying with.

"Seven, Don't go!!"

"Seven, Noo!"

"Stop!!"

The light at the end wasn't really an exit but rather the nest of the monsters, my life flashed in front of me. Memories of walking with her in the park, having to be with each other for days. A small smile came out of my face as tears rushed out of my eyes.

I talked to the radio one last time with my voice about to break.

"This is Seven... tell her I love her. I hope this ends this bloody war"

-----------------------------------------------------------------

He said as his plane crashed on to the newly found nest, his last words meant everything to us. A new era was about to begin from the sacrifice of one man.

"This is your leader speaking, head to these coordinates we're about this absurd war"

Me along with my men and all the executors extinguished every last one of those monstrous creatures leaving nothing behind, cheers of joy echoed on our radio as everyone flew back to the base. But staring at the burnt out and deteriorated nest I saw something, from the debris came out a small white creature, a butterfly.

"The war ended 10 years ago. Sadly to say Seven's body was not found nor his aircraft. As his leader and the person he was with at that time, I wanted to be the one to tell you what happened. He was a hero"

She looked at me with eyes filled with pain, it has only been a few weeks since she woke up from her coma. It saddens me to tell her such news, but she kept looking for him asking what happened. Before walking out of the room I took a quick glance and said his last words.

"Seven told me to tell you that he loves you"

I left the room with a heavy heart, her cries echoed outside the room.

"Wars are the worst"

--THE END--
