There is threefold effect of a super bomb. The most obvious is a shock wave of enormous intensity. The force of its impact, which depends on the power of the bomb, the height of the explosion above the surface of the earth and the terrain, decreases with distance from the epicenter of the explosion. Depending on the composition and mass of the combustible material involved in the ball of fire, giant firestorms can be formed with active period of many hours. However, the most dangerous consequence of the explosion is radioactive contamination of the environment.

Radioactive fallout

During the bomb blast, a fireball is formed, which is filled with a large amount of radioactive particles. Usually these particles are so small that, once they reach the upper atmosphere, they can remain there for a long time. But if a fireball collides with the surface of the Earth, everything on it turns into burning dust and ashes which then drawed into a fiery tornado. In the vortex of the flame, they are mixed and combined with radioactive particles. Radioactive dust, except for the largest, does not settle immediately. The smaller dust is attributed to the cloud resulting from the explosion and gradually drops as it moves in the wind. Immediately at the site of the explosion, radioactive fallout can be extremely intense - in the main, it is depositing large dust on the ground. Hundreds of kilometers from the site of the explosion, and at further distances, small, but still visible, particles of ash fall to the ground. Often, they form a snow-like cover, deadly for anyone nearby. Even smaller and invisible particles, before they settle on earth, can travel in the atmosphere for months and even years, many times circling the globe.

One bomb blast lead to an immediate radioactive contamination in the radius of about 100 km from the epicenter of explosion. From explosoin district in tens of thousands square kilometers is contaminated. Even if suprbomb won't fall in the goal, penetrating radiation and radioactive precipitation that accompany explosion, will make the surrounding area unfit for accommodation. Such precipitation can last for many days, weeks and even months. Depending on their number and the intensity, level of radiation can achieve fatally dangerous levels. Relatively small number of superbombs enough to completely cover great country with a layer fatally dangerous radioactive dust. Thus, the use of bomb marked the beginning era when whole continents are unsuitable for accommodation.
