"Ugh-!" Katsuki stomped through the streets of Musutafu Japan, hands shoved tightly into the pockets of his hero costume. He hated the cold; he despised the whole damn season; it can all go to hell for all he cared.
'Stay with us as we cover this breaking news-' Katsuki lazily gazed at the television in the window of the shop he strolls by every day. '-on the plane-'
This time of year, was always too busy for him, with the holiday season causing a ruckus, the snow making it hard to keep his footing in battle, to make matters worse he always had to warm up before he could break a sweat and really get into the fight.
It was awful.
Katsuki softened his gaze, the crunch of the snow under his boot as he continued his way through the street. You always made this dreaded time more palatable. The home he shared with you always smelled of cinnamon, the festive décor you forced him to help with left a warm glow for when he entered the apartment after a long patrol shift, giving him a sense of home.
Your love of watching the snow fall from the clouded sky, the way you gazed upward to the stars—your annoying habit of getting distracted by the twinkling lights everywhere—maybe this season wasn't so bad, but he wasn't going to openly admit that.
"Wow-!" An exhilarated voice turned Katsuki's head. "-you-your Pro-Hero Dynamight!"
"Damn right." Katsuki held his famous sneer turning to the young teenager who hopped over.
"Ca-Can I have your autograph-!?" The teenager ripped his bookbag off his back, stumbling over his movements to pull out his notepad and pen. "-pl-please!?"
"I don't see why not." Katsuki shrugged, playing it off but in reality, he loved it when he met his fans, when they asked him to take pictures and autographs made him feel like a real hero.
"Thank you so much!" The boy with wide brown eyes glowed up at his hero, Katsuki scribbled his name on the piece of paper, light snowflakes attached themselves to the page, soaking it in spots.
"Stay in school-" Katsuki went to end this interaction, he may enjoy this sweet side of hero work which he didn't get to see often, but he had a job to do; one he needed to get back to doing.
"I'm surprised to see you out here." The boy mindlessly commented, shoving his notepad back into his bookbag, excited to show off to his friends tomorrow at school.
"Hah-?" Katsuki tilted his head, "-and why would that be?"
"Uh-" The boy swallowed the lump in his throat. "-be-because of the accident last night?"
"What accident-?" Katsuki crossed his arms—the best he could with his hero gauntlets on—while leaning closer to the kid. "- and why would I care?"
"Th-The accident wi-with Pr-Pro-Hero Five?"
Katsuki's heart skipped, eyes widening at the mention of your hero's name.
"What happened last night!?" Katsuki stepped forward, causing the boy to shake in his boots as the six-foot something hero loomed over him. Katsuki's brain racked itself. He didn't get a call or a text from you last night, but that wasn't uncommon.
These past few weeks the two of you have had completely opposite schedules. By the time he got home from his day shift, you had already left to start your night shift.
What was the last thing you said to him?
Katsuki licked his lips.
You were escorting a prisoner with GunHead.
But it was you and GunHead and Katsuki didn't get a call from anyone. He was your emergency contact, next in line was All Might and Aizawa.
"You-You don't know?" The boy's voice pulled Katsuki out of his head; he glared down at the innocent kid.
"What don't I know?"
Katsuki's question went ignored, the kid pulled his phone from his jacket pocket, using his teeth to pull a glove off his hand he tapped away on his screen. Katsuki felt the vein in his forehead throb, fucking kids and their phones!
Before Katsuki could chew out the poor manners, the kid flipped the phone around, flashing letters from a news report shut Katsuki down.
'Breaking news-!' Sound seeped from the device. '-Flight 407 just went down!'
Flight 407?
Why did Katsuki know that number?
His chest tightened, realizing it was your flight number, the one you accompanied GunHead on to aid in escorting some backroads prisoner. The commission was over booked due to the holidays, so the HPSC reached out to you and GunHead to transport some villain on a commercial flight so they could get him booked and thrown away in a cell already.
Katsuki's eyes narrowed on the screen; no other information was given.
Katsuki thanked the kid, told him to get home, it was getting too late for him to be outside, the sun was preparing itself to set as Katsuki struggled to rip his mind out of his thoughts.
'-Flight 407 just went down!'
The words echoed around inside his skull like it was suck on some sick loop, slowly driving him mad. He was so deep in thought he almost hadn't heard the daggered footsteps behind him.
"Stop him-!" A panicked voice cries, "-theft!"
Katsuki spun around in time, seeing a hooded figure running right past him. Katsuki didn't feel the shock on his face, how could he have been so lost in thought he forgot to do his damn job and keep his head in the game!?
The villain reached out a silver string of light shot from the palm of his hand; Katsuki dodged the strike. The villain spun, slipping down the nearby alleyway with Pro-Hero Dynamight right on his tail. The two twisted and turned around the block, the villain trying to shake Katsuki off his tracks, but the blond wasn't having it.
No villain would slip past him, ever!
The villain spun, silver lines once again shooting from his hands. Katsuki leaped right, knowing he could easily avoid the hit, but his foot slid on the sheet of ice, causing him to stumble. One of the silver lines impaled his torso. Katsuki grunted, pulling his brows waiting for the discomfort or pain to hit, but all he felt was a warm sensation filling his belly which against the brisk winter air was a welcomed feeling.
Katsuki reached his hand out, sending small concentrated blasted towards the villain, he was over this! On the fourth attempt Katsuki nailed the villain in the leg, the scrawny thief dropped face first into a snowbank like a discarded sack of potatoes.
"Hey-!" A chipper voice caused Katsuki to look to the sky and groan. "-Dynamight, great catch!"
"Thanks." Katsuki grunted, turning to the new hero on the block, whose name slipped his mind.
"I can take this guy in for you if you want-"
"I got it." Katsuki butted in.
"Huh?" The noob blinks, "But don't you want to get back on the street-?"
"I said I got it!" Katsuki bit, picking the villain up by his leg and beginning to drag him through the snow, lightly hoping he would get a mild case of frostbite.
"O-Oh, ok?"
On a normal day, Katsuki wouldn't mind letting the little noob hero take this little minnow of a villain and collect the chump change. However, today wasn't just any other day.
'-Flight 407 just went down!'
Katsuki had to squeeze his eyes shut, just for a moment...to clear his head. This small fry gave him the excuse to head back to the agency early, he could turn him in and then get some real answers about what the hell happened last night!
----
The stainless-steel elevator doors opened; Katsuki stepped through them before they could finish opening. He stepped onto his floor of the agency, eyes searching for any familiar face. Having finally been able to check his phone, he saw dozens of messages. All ranging from worried questions to condolences.
He had to stop reading them, they were pushing him over the edge.
"Oi-" Katsuki stomped up to the desk sitting outside his office. A timid girl with short auburn hair snapped up.
"Dy-Dynamight-!" His assistant squeaked. "-you-you are back early!"
A female assistant wasn't Katsuki's first choice, hell, he didn't even pick her.
You did.
You saved this timid thing from when a building collapsed, she lost her whole family that day and she was thrown onto a dark path, one Katsuki knew you were familiar with. So, to help her not follow in your footsteps you convinced him to allow this girl to be his assistant.
"Ayane-" Katsuki growled, "-why didn't I get a call!?"
"A-A call?"
"About (y/n)'s fucking flight crashing!"
"O-Oh-!" Ayane stuttered, "-we-we just found out and you were on patrol so-"
"I don't give two fucks where I am-!" Katsuki sneered, "-when it comes to (y/n) you fucking call me!"
"Ye-Yes sir."
"Do we have any fucking information about the crash!?" Katsuki pressed, looking around the large room, dozens of desks were placed neatly around.
"Bakugo?"
Katsuki turned, seeing Kirishima poking his head out of his office placed beside his, on the other side was yours.
"Shitty Hair-"
"Perfect timing!" Kirishima waved the blond into his office. Katsuki furrowed his brows, but followed anyway, shutting the door behind him. Katsuki gazed into the room, freezing as he did so.
Aizawa, All Might, and Midoriya were already sitting inside.
"Was I the only one not called!?" Katsuki growled, fist tightening.
He was your boyfriend.
He was the one you lived with.
He is supposed to be the first person called!
"You were on your shift man-" Kirishima softly sighed, Katsuki narrowed his eyes, about to repeat the same lecture to Kirishima he just gave Ayane, but All Might held up a hand.
"We just got footage."
"Footage?" Katsuki brushed past Kirishima, hovering over Aizawa's shoulder staring at the desktop on Kirishima's desk. "We have footage of the plane?"
"It was halted before it could go public." Aizawa explains, clicking play.
The screen flashed to the inside of an airplane; three rows of seats sat on both sides of the plane.
Katsuki's heart fluttered spotting you stand near the first row, you were looking off to the side at something off screen. Katsuki leaned closer, GunHead was standing a few feet away, clearly the villain you are escorting was sitting in the middle seat of the first row.
Katsuki recalled your text messages, explaining this mission. You felt it was stupid to get on a commercial flight with a villain, but what the hell did you know? The HPSC wanted this crook behind bars asap.
Katsuki pinched his brows together, for the first time he wondered why the HPSC wanted this small-time villain behind bars so badly they couldn't wait until after the holidays when there were more secure flights available.
Katsuki glared when the camera flipped around revealing the puggy faced man recording this video. He flashed a thumb up, clearly excited having two pro-heroes on his flight.
Aizawa rolled his eyes, fast forwarding.
The video soon flipped back around, after a moment there was a muffled noise, to inaudible to make out. But whatever was said it made you turn around and caused you to place your hand on your firearm.
"Can you fix the sound?" All Might questioned.
"No." Aizawa answered, "This is the best we got."
"We can't hear anything being said!" Kirishima growled, muscles twitching, feeling helpless to help you in any way caused a pit to form in this stomach.
Katsuki ignored the conversation watching as you raised your free hand, singling someone to stop.
"Get back in your seat-!" Your voice rang clear through the speaker, dripping with earned authority sent shivers over Katsuki's arms and his pants tightened slightly as he licked his lips.
The video flickered over to someone standing in a middle seat, he was screaming but his words muffled together. The people sitting beside him appeared to be petrified, the man raised his arms out, appearing to be yelling. Katsuki could barely make out the words:
'Take a shot-!'
Kirishima frowned as the man in the middle seat began to literally glow a light reddish color. Three shots could be heard through the speakers, as well as the words 'explosive quirk'.
The video footage rocked around as the man exploded, causing a tear in the side of the plane, the video shook as they heard:
"We're going down-!" A panicked voice cried out. "-we're going down!"
The video turned into nothing but useless static, Katsuki reached out, roughly pounding on the keyboard.
"That's it!?"
"Yeah." Aizawa sighed, rubbing his stiff neck.
"That can't be it!" Midoriya was borderline distraught.
"It is." Aizawa nods, leaning back in the seat. "There are confirmed deaths-" Katsuki's stomach soured. "-but (y/n) isn't one of them."
"Fucking lead with that!" Katsuki snapped, whipping around. "She's fine!?"
"From what I was told yes-" Aizawa replies, "-she and GunHead survived as well as their prisoner."
"The pilot was able to land the plane in some abandoned field-" All Might added in. "-while the survivors of the crash are being taken to the hospital, GunHead and (y/n) are being flown to the nearby airfield in an hour."
"For fuck sakes-" Katsuki breathed, running a hand through his hair. "-why are we still sitting on our asses, let's fucking go!"
