19 Madam Secretary

ALEX

"I'll think about it, but I expect no favours just because I'm your girl, alright?" Lia had made it clear before leaving for home, and Alexander was over the roof with joy. His dreams were slowly coming true.

Excited, he called his best friend to tell him about the good news but was it excellent news getting her back into the company when there were so many mysteries around her?

Was it perfect to have access to the company, and every search they ran on her landed them in highly encrypted web pages that none of them would have ever imagined? If she was just a simple nineteen-year-old, why was there so much mystery about her?

"Ryan, you got a secretary yet?" Alex asked his best friend.

"no, not yet; why? You got some hot guy you want me to woo or what?" Ryan countered.

Alex had been pressuring him into getting a secretary, especially with the workload in the company. He barely went to the company, but Alex was always updated about what was happening. It was technically his anyways, so there was no way he would be out of the loop.

"Yeah, whatcha think about Lia being your secretary," Alex asked, hoping that Ryan would agree. Maybe them working together would help Ryan clear off his suspicions about miss beautiful, and they would ever hit it off like the previous times.

Ryan had never really thought about having Lia back at the company, but did having her back make any sense? Especially now that Alex was not working in the company anymore? Did it make sense to have his girlfriend be the secretary?

He knew that there was a lot they needed to work out, and maybe Lia being his secretary, could give her a footing before shit got awkward. He could feel that a lot had changed since the duo disappeared.

She was no longer the happy girl he had known.

She had changed, but then an explosion was bound to change a lot of lives. Hers was just one on the long line. He wasn't sure it was a good idea, but for old times' sake, he was willing to try; besides, there was nothing wrong with helping his brother out in his company, right?

"no problem, man, when's she coming?" Ryan asked, and Alex asked Lia when she would report for the reviews, and she said Monday, considering today was a Friday. That would give them enough time to go over the specifics.

Lia was good at being a secretary, and while that was never her dream, she knew her dreams would never come true if her heart were filled with a great desire for revenge and paying back all the people who had messed up her life.

What was education anyways when she had learnt from her siblings everything she could? She had grown up so fast in a world that never cared for her state as an orphan who only ever wanted a sane family but was granted five irrational mercenaries and idiots for brothers and siblings.

Even though her siblings were a whole different type of crazy, Amelia James knew she would never trade them for anything.

They were her family.

Her mess.

They were hers to deal with and love and be there for when shit hit the fan because when dawn became dusk, they were the ones who would stay by her side without questioning what was happening to her.

Alex looked at the woman in front of him, and he felt like he was the luckiest man. Lia was a beauty with brains, and for a nineteen-year-old, she was a diligent woman. He wondered whether helping her get her education was something she was up for.

Sure, she was her secretary and had been familiar with how some section of the corporate world worked, but she was never going to stay a secretary forever. He knew she would not take his inheritance, but what if he took her to school?

Would she ever appreciate that?

Was it something she would embrace, or would she feel like Alexander was looking down on her? Hopefully, she didn't feel the latter because she was his world, and nothing would ever change that, not even the level of education that she had at the moment.

Lia had finished packing and was ready to leave, but Alex was still hesitant.

He wanted to spend more time with her, but he also knew he had to get back to tracking the vigilantes; maybe with Lia away, he could focus completely on the mission; then again, the woman was always on his mind.

That was something he would never be able to change. Maybe the world was not what they had thought of it to be, but there was nothing they could do at the moment other than let everyone else adjust to their new reality.

"When will I see you again?" He asked, hoping that she would let him come over to the apartment he had never stepped foot into. Maybe that had been for the best because he would be shocked to see the faces of his family pined on the walls of her study room.

"Soon, baby...soon."

She was wild.

She was chaotic.

She was angry.

She was full of vengeance, and if she saw that side of her, there was a chance he would never be okay with that, but that was also something they would have to live by because she was done dragging her fight for justice or revenge or whatever the fuck it was that was holding her back from making Ryan pay for the losses.

Lexi was managing the company so well, and Alex knew he had nothing to worry about. His family was also okay. They would be okay, or so he told himself. When Lia had left home, he had gone to visit Lexi and Mia.

It had been a while since they had been together and evidently Ryan would catch up with them and probably the Spanish bastard too, but who could have thought that a union so simple would end up being so complicated that they had to make the choices in their lives?
