4 Unknown Feeling

After finishing the small talks, the old man was taken back to his housing with a final promise to show them the Divine Door he mentioned to him, tomorrow. Key Stroke also regrouped with the others students. Sharing with them the rest of the information they couldn't hear because of the far distance.

Learning of the new name for human beings and the questionable abilities of the Divine Door, the group of students was left in a state of indecisiveness. They had no clear understanding which things to believe and trust.

It was insane to believe they could gain powers like in a storybook. Yet, the things happening so far was already impossibilities. One of the girls named Chelsie Tola, could not take the silence as she turned to address Key Stroke. "What should we do?"

Taking a moment to get his own thoughts in order, Key Stroke answered her. "For now, I think it's best to recover as much energy as you can. From the way the old man spoke about the Divine Door, it's something similar to a test. And right now, none of us can afford to fail it."

Not understanding the reason why, the 17-year-old boy Steele Wake, also questioned Key Stroke. "Because none of us can understand the language here. And trying to learn it, could take years. But most important, do you feel being weak is easier to live here or being strong?" Key Stroke replied.

Hearing this, they all came to a better understanding. The most important thing in this kind of world was strength. Without strength, they would need to constantly look over there shoulders, hoping that a giant bug wouldn't decide, they were its next meal.

"And how much should we believe from him?" Black Bourne asked, referring to the old man and his trustworthiness. "I think most of his words were true. You can say, his words are a dying request to help his people, and in return, we can grow stronger." Key Stroke informed.

Easing everybody's nerves, they all tried to settle in with the band of people. Struggling to communicate, they were given a house hill to sleep in, while they waited for the next day. As for food and water, it was the same as the day before.

There was much disappointment learning that the 'specks' here only ate grass and used the liquid inside for water until it rained. To have water for the small tribe, they had dug a misshaped hole in the middle of their settlement to act as a water well.

It was a harsh way of living. They couldn't even stay above ground too long because there were high risks of being kill by something. Even the ground below would have its share of danger from creatures that lived below as well.

Just seeing the state of humans in this world, struck Key Stroke with unknown feelings he never knew he had. He had never been an ambitious person or meddler. The only time he could recall meddling in with other people's problems was, when they truly had no way out.

There were even times when, if he saw somebody getting beat up, he would do nothing. It was not that he was being heartless, it was that he felt, if someone who didn't fight back and allowed the painful treatment to happen, why should he help?

The only times he helped, were times when they fight back but still could not change their situation. Even then, those kind of times were rare for him to take action. Yet, he felt a strong urge to let the human race breathe.

The way he saw it, they were being smothered by the weight and pressure, known as acceptance. Why else would they be willing to crawl in a hole? Why did they not fight back? Did they fight back? He didn't know any of these things.

The only thing he could do was base his judgment off the only group he knew. Even trying to reason with himself that there might or should be others who have better conditions didn't change the feelings.

Wanting to calm his mind and hopefully toss the unknown feelings to the side, Key Stroke took the opportunity to lie down while reminding himself he needed to be fully rested for what was to come tomorrow.

...

With the top of the house hill's grass being moved to the side, there was a warm heat that beamed down on Key Stroke and waking him from his slumber. Craning, Key Stroke took a glance up with one eye peeked open.

At the top looking down was a tribe member that they had nicknamed Tony. He had also been the one to help arrange them a place to live for the time being. With a hand beckoning him to rise and come out, Key Stroke got up while waking the others.

Soon, they were all led to the center of the tribe's campsite. Standing in there was a small crowd of people, all male. Sitting in a green grass chair like the day before with four people holding it, was the old man.

"I'm glad to see you all bright and earlier in the morning. The Divine Door is a little ways away from the camping site. So we must go early in the day while there is still light. Darkness is not safe for traveling." He informed.

"Okay, we have all agree to your request. Lead the way, and we will follow." Key Stroke agreed. Having decided he would be the voice for the group of students.

Not wanting the students to change their minds, the old man hurriedly had his group begin marching toward the Divine Door location. Watching their actions, Key Stroke could only shake his head. Did he forget that they needed the help of the Divine Door too?

With a small smile, Key Stroke followed the group ahead. Hopefully, the trip wouldn't be wasted without anybody becoming an Adapter.
