6 Finding an Ambition

Leaving the matter about Donn Kell alone, Key Stroke once more got ready to enter the Divine Door. Unexpectedly, he was stopped this time by Black Bourne and Skyla Betts. What did these two want to do?

"Key Stroke wait! I think you and Black Bourne, should be the last ones to go." Skyla Betts advised. Black Bourne also spoke up at this time. "She's right. Kell can't be trusted enough for you or me to leave him with the others. He just got stronger, so he might run wild like at school." He finished.

"Well, I can understand your worries but..." He began, already knowing the concern they were feeling. But finding it unnecessary because Donn Kell had already become an Adapter.

The results of his and Donn Kell's fight was where they were probably getting their reassurance. And it was true that before the change, their fighting ability was about even, but that was before the upgrade to an Adapter. There would be no suspense if they fought again now.

"If it makes you feel better, I will..." He continued before pausing at the hopeful look he was getting. They didn't seem to want anything to do with Donn Kell. Even the other students were making it clear how they felt about Donn Kell, with the distance they were creating.

He blinked in disbelieve at everybody not understanding the situation. Did they forget in a moments notice of the world around them? Assuming they did, Donn Kell was still known to be the boss of their school.

Or to be more accurate, the big bully. He was the best fighter in school, having even taken martial art lessons or training from what the rumors in school said. Furthermore, his limits, pass humanity had just unlocked.

Nobody would be able to stop him if he wanted to use violence. And if one was to put all of that aside, none of them knew if they could also pass the Divine Door's test. If they truly did isolate him from their group, they would just be losing valuable fighting power.

"Key Stroke..?" Skyla Betts questioned, having caught the pause and deep look he was giving. "Nothing. I will wait for everyone to finish first then. Okay?" He finished. "Thanks, we needed somebody to be able to handle him." She said relieved.

Key Stroke nodded before standing with the rest of the group. Since there was nothing he could do to solve the students' actions right now, he could only keep his attention on the results of the Divine Door testing.

The next to try their hand at the Divine Door was Steele Wake. In school, he could be considered a sports person. There were hardly any sports in their school he wasn't good at playing. But the thing he tried to keep secret from others was that he liked being the center of attention.

Of course, Key Stroke knew all this as he focused his sights on Steele Wake's movements trying to gain some insight as Steele Wake attempted to enter the Divine Door. Unlike Donn Kell, he didn't walk unfazed. The moment he got within three meters in the range of the Divine Door, he staggered.

Following the staggering, his knees hit the ground as he used his hands for support in keeping himself from lying entirely on the floor. "What is he doing?" A male student asked. He was the same student that seemed always to ask questions when something happened.

"Rejection." The old man stated. "He is being rejected from becoming an Adapter. The only way to enter is to have a strong ambition. Whether it be good or evil doesn't matter. Without great courage and a strong will, it is impossible to accept heaven's blessing." He finished telling them.

Key Stroke looked at the old man before turning his view back to the scene in front. Strong ambitions? Did he have those? There was nothing he felt he craved or must do in his life before he died.

But he could now understand why Donn Kell was unmoved when walking into the Divine Door. The guy clearly wanted to be the most powerful being in the world. Even being flung to an unknown place didn't seem to change his goal, but instead, make it greater.

As for himself, the strongest feeling he had right now was to go back to earth. However, he wasn't sure if the current world wasn't their earth in itself. He couldn't help frowning as he thought more on the situation. If his goal to return home wasn't strong enough, he would become one of the powerless.

While not becoming an Adapter wouldn't make him entirely powerless as the greatest advantage humans were known to have over other species were their minds, it would still make him feel handicap in this sort of place.

As Key Stroke pondered, Steele Wake not too far from the Divine Door struggled to rise back on his feet. No matter how much physical strength he used, the pressure forcing him to kneel and lie down only grew stronger.

Gritting his teeth as he tried enduring the weight, Steele Wake made a move to crawl away from the Divine Door. Seeing this action, the old man went to shout out to him hurriedly. "Wait young speck! If you turn your back on the Divine Door now, you will never get another chance."

Everyone in the group of students become surprised. This advice was the first time they heard of this news. But in the end, it made sense this would happen. Why else would the other tribesmen fail to become Adapters after so long?

Key Stroke also had come to this conclusion long ago. "Steele Wake! Focus on what you want to achieve in life. Make it something you would be willing to put your life on the line for. Concentrate on that dream! That goal! That ambition!" Key Stroke shouted with encouragement.

He did this because their group needed all the help they could get. If even just one of them were to fail, they definitely wouldn't be able to keep staying with the group. The reason for this, strength came with status.

If the status between individuals were too high, they wouldn't be able to form a lasting connection in the long run. It was the same for those who became Adapters and those who didn't. Right now it might not change things too much, but in the future, the distance would only keep growing farther apart.

"Stand up Steele Wake! If you want to achieve that ambition, you can only be an Adapter in life!" He finished shouting.

As soon as the words finished leaving from his mouth, Steele Wake stood upright without any resistance. Following which, he ran forward into the entry instead of walking.

Standing on the side, Donn Kell shook his head. "Such words being wasted on trash. Stroke, you are foolish." He murmured to himself. Not understanding the need to support so much useless baggage. He would have never wasted his time like that.
