29 Coming Crisis

As the days followed with the construction of the houses, making weapons, and searching for food and materials, Key took the time to have the most knowledgeable person in each tribe teach him more about the world and its dangers.

What he found out left him both surprised and relieved. The rumor of there being great tribes was true, and some also had the chance to witness the great tribes. However, this information wasn't surprising as he knew there had to be more humans alive.

If the villagers made up the sum of the total human race, that would have been the real surprising thing. No, it was that the nearest great tribe was only two weeks' travel for regular humans. For a three-star Adapter or higher, they could shorten the time distance to four or seven days.

Just this information let him know that he couldn't afford to send a large group to meet the great tribe leader because he was still on a schedule and under threat from the Queen. But that wasn't the only thing.

The information was also good news. Having used all his hidden cards trying to bluff the villagers into believing his group had strength without outright lying, he realized those hidden cards wouldn't be a great deter to the Queen.

The fire might still have some use, but its effects would only last a few days at best before they brought someone strong enough to deal with a Title Adapter. When that happened, there would be no longer a need for the Queen to underestimate them and that power wasn't something they could handle.

At least if they kept the Queen under the illusion of being a weak group of specks, they would have more time to grow before she felt the need to take them seriously. Even better, forming an alliance with a great tribe wouldn't dispell the illusion and they would also gain the longer time they wanted.

In this way, if the Queen ever got impatient, the logical choice would be to send the weak force to kill the weak and the strong force to kill the strong.

Key sighed as he thought farther on a matter of two main problems. The first problem was the offer needed to convince the great tribe leader to put his people at risk.

Then there was the problem who to send. Everyone was currently unavailable. All were assigned where they were needed to be in helping the village flourish. He also couldn't send Black or Donn because their strength wasn't ideal and even if it was, he needed those two to control the people in case some still had ulterior motives.

This choice left only the other students trustworthy to pick from but lacked the strength to use as well. For the others, he had no intentions of letting the new villagers go because the temptation to defect in safer grounds would be too strong.

With the situation as it was, the best choice to choose was to go alone himself because the trip needed secrecy and speed. Right now, he was currently having the villagers see him as little as possible while letting Skyla be his spokeswoman.

He was also sure his strength was now the strongest in the village and of their student group. Furthermore, he was the only person that had the most likely chance to persuade the great tribe leader with his words.

There simply wasn't a better choice for being an envoy to the village. This decision would even let him have a more clear view of the world while hopefully improving his strength on the way. After all, nothing was more important than power.

Putting his mind at ease, Key finished making his plans. In the days that continued, he informed Skyla and Black while keeping the rest in the dark. Once the success came for the promised increase in Adapters, he would leave to head to the great tribe for the alliance they required.

Soon, news quickly traveled on the seventh day that the group of former tribe leaders had succeeded. People could actually become Adapters without the necessity of using the Divine Door to help.

The news easily created a commotion as everyone wanted to give it a try. Even women who were usually kept doing minor things and staying mostly inside their homes before the village establishment gave out their voice of wanting to become Adapters.

Key once again stay away from the villagers' eyes as he had Skyla assign the managing of deciding to the former leaders. The only time he came out was to tell the people that what they were experiencing was only the beginning of miracles that knowledge could bring them.

With that, he let the former leaders have that small amount of power to keep them from being too resentful. After all, he had basically turned them into people with the same status as the rest of the villagers that use to work under them. And like earlier when talking about their guaranteed success, they seemed to respect his decision.

Even giving an explanation to him through Skyla that it was necessary to have specks try the results to finish the testing. Hearing their demand, he wasn't too sure about experimenting on humans but still acknowledged that if a person offered willingly, he wouldn't have any complaints.

In the end, there were no problems. Everyone had an uplifted spirit from the success. Key watched it all before informing Skyla to make sure everyone kept their guard up during his absence as he left in the middle of the night to avoid the villagers' notice.

...

"Snow." Queen Widow called. "Yes, your Majesty?" She answered kneeled down as much as a spider can. The Queen did not answer right away. Suspended in front of her was a trapped Wicked Mick as webbing and ice covered his body parts.

Taking a look at the giant wolf spider, she finally decided to reply to Snow as her voice carried an enchantment to it. "I want you to gather the attack squad for me. It is time I got rid of the infestation in my lands. Now Mick, tell me, are you going to fail me again?"
