28 Two Against One

(AN: From now on when using Inspect, stats will be question marks until the first kill is achieved. This is to allow the system to quantify the parameters of the enemy after a full battle has been completed. Rank and Level DO NOT apply for this.

For skills, they will only be visible against enemies of a lower rank or until after a battle is completed. Furthermore, they can be shown if they are found out another way, from reading a monster index for example.)

Seeing the blade near his skull, he used blink to appear behind the girl. Quickly turning around to question her actions, he stopped as he saw her sword slash the neck of a giant greyish blue reptile behind where he has been previously.

Jumping back to get some distance, the girl backstepped into Kameron, startling her as she started motioning to attack whatever was behind her. "It's me," Kameron said quickly enough to make her pause mid-swing as she looked over her shoulder in stupefaction.

..

.

The girl couldn't understand what happened.

Moments ago Kameron had been in front of her, unaware of the monster behind him, so seeing it tower over him as if appearing to try and eat him, she quickly acted. She didn't care if it seemed like she was attacking him, she know what she wanted to do so as long as she didn't hit him and instead connected with the monster, he was bound to forgive her later for her spontaneous attack.

Though, watching him disappear from in front of her eyes, she briefly paused because she wanted to make sure that she hadn't been going crazy and talking to an imaginary person.

This lead to her connecting against the side of the monster, which she recognized as a Basilisk.

Luckily for her, this Basilisk seemed young and low rank so it probably wouldn't have the petrification abilities that the Basilisk was known for.

After backing up and bumping into Kameron, who she had almost attacked a second time, she smiled as she confirmed she hadn't made him up. It would terrify her if he turned out to be imaginary.

"Inspect"

Shifting her eyes to the demon beside her which now had on a mask, she wondered why he had said that but seeing his expression change in a few seconds, she decided to shelve her question until after they got out of the current situation.

"Uhh… Ina??? Where are the stats???" Kameron asked after only seeing question marks where numbers would usually be.

(I will explain quickly so pay attention!)

After a few moments, along with some facial expression changes, Kameron shook his head as he wondered why the system randomly decided to switch how it worked.

"Well… doesn't matter, we have to kill this thing anyways." He said as he brandished both of his swords and readied to attack.

"That thing is called a Water Basilisk… luckily it looks like a young one so we won't have a lot of trouble winning."

Turning his head slightly towards the elf beside him, he proposed a question to her, "What else can you tell me about it?"

"Well with how young it's looking, it can probably only spit water from its mouth. From what I know, it's a fairly strong ability at higher ranks."

Checking the details of the inspect, he saw that a skill had appeared in golden text before changing to the normal color. Beside that skill were more question marks but he understood how the skills worked now so he was content.

"Water Jet… sounds just like a Pokemon move…" He commented before focusing his attention on the sedan-sized lizard in front of him. It began stepping toward him so not wanting to get distracted, he dismissed the Inspect results before taking a step forward.

"How do you want to handle this?" he asked, curious if the girl had some form of a plan.

"I don't know, just kill it!"

"..."

Watching the girl dashed towards the basilisk, Kameron moved as well. Reaching the back leg of the Basilisk since it had turned to focus on the girl, Kameron swung his water sword downward against its leg.

Watching as a small gash appeared after the attack, Kameron attempted to attack next with his fire sword but lept back to dodge a tail swipe. Seeing the thick reptilian tail almost connect with him, he decided to attack that instead as it seemed like it wouldn't move back to its original position instantly.

Sweeping his fire sword horizontally across the upper portion of the tail near the base, he wasn't too surprised to see that his sword cut deeper than the water one.

"Elemental weaknesses…" he thought as dashed to his side and slid on his knees while raising his fire sword to cut across the undersection of the basilisk's neck. Since his fire sword cut deeper into the skin of the basilisk, burning it as well from the heat stored within. The basilisk tried focusing his attention on Kameron only to receive another attack from the quick-thinking mind of Kameron.

Hearing the basilisk yell in pain as it looked hatefully in his direction, Kameron put away his water sword and only held the fire sword with one hand.

"Good! Your sword hurts it because of the flames burning within it." The elf girl said after she had watched the quick attack from Kameron. She hadn't been able to do much but give the monster a few shallow cuts with her water element sword.

"Since this doesn't work then ill try that!" she said as she held her hand out in front of her, allowing the water sword to deform and splash against the ground as normal water.

Not really getting a chance to watch and see what she wanted to do, Kameron jumped in the opposite direction of her while dodging a claw swipe from the basilisk. Luring it away to the other side of the pathway, Kameron began battling it while dodging its attacks.

Attacking at every opportunity presented, sometimes two or three times, Kameron was able to leave dozens of cut marks around the body of the monster in only half a minute. Meeting the furious gaze of the monster, he watched as it dug its claws into the ground and opened its mouth. The small fins on the side of its neck flared out as well, further convincing him something was different about this incoming attack.

Seeing it wasn't a bite attack like it had done before, he followed the warning of his intuition and ducked as a stream of water surged past where his head had been and impacted the wall behind him.

"This is definitely a skill!" he thought as he dove to the side and watched as the water stream moved quickly to where he had been crouched previously. Watching as it quickly traveled down the wall as it cut through it like a knife cutting through bread, Kameron quickly pushed off the ground with his feet and dodged the water jet as it forced him back.

"Can you do something?!" He shouted to the elf girl who had been standing off to the side with her arms still outstretched.

"Shut up!" she replied with her own shout as a massive gust of wind blew into his body, forcing him to stumble back a few steps.

Seeing the water stream stop and the Basilisk turn its head to focus on the girl, Kameron started running towards her since it didn't think she was going to protect herself while doing whatever she was doing.

"Move!" He shouted as he tried to make it back quickly as he saw the basilisk open its mouth again in the girl's direction, its fins flaring again signifying its use of the Water Jet skill once again.

"Don't underestimate me!" he heard her shout as a white blade of what he believed was wind, flew towards the basilisk. He kept running but hearing what sounded like a quick swishing sound as well as the blade impact the wall with a decent amount of force, he wondered how much damage it did to it.

Making a note to check after the battle, he arrived by the girl a second later. Quickly wrapping his arm around her waist, he dove to the side while pulling her with him. Landing on the ground, Kameron expected to hear the sound of the rocks breaking from the water jet cutting across the wall.

Instead, he heard a dull thud followed by a larger thud. Further followed by a notification congratulating him for defeating the basilisk.

"What…" he said as he turned to the side and looked where the Basilisk had been standing. Noticing its head had been cut cleanly from its body, he quickly looked back to the girl in his arm. She was looking at his confused face but with his senses still heightened from battle, the slightly dark tone around her cheeks didn't go unnoticed.

"See? I told you not to underestimate me…" the girl said as she smiled and locked eyes with Kameron. "Now get off of me…"

"…."
