1 Prologue

The sun had set when Abigail walked out of the last train arriving in the underground metro station of B City. A chilly winter welcomed her for the very first time to 'The City of Dreams'. The evening was even more beautiful for it was Christmas. Celebration was in the air and silly decorations hung everywhere.

The temperature must have been close to 4 degrees. Adding to the winter chill was the cool breeze which was blowing that evening, compelling the just arrived passengers to pull out their jackets.

In Abigail's arm embracing her neck was a four year old child and beside her holding her hand was another girl probably eight to nine year old. These were her brother and sister, Sean and Sera. Also the only people who truly loved her in this world.

Abigail looked down and saw Sean fast asleep in her arms. He looks like an angel, she thought. He was pale probably from cold so she wrapped him in his blanket even tighter.

She felt someone tug the corner of her jacket. She looked down and saw Sera looking uncomfortable.

"Sera, Are you alright?" She asked. She noticed that Sera had been staring at something for quite a while. She followed her line of sight and saw a cake shop. In the window was one of the largest and most beautiful chocolate cakes, Abigail had ever seen. It would probably cost thousands.

"Sera, Are you cold?" Abigail asked in an attempt to distract her. She helped fix her scarf and jacket to keep her warm.

"It's nothing, sis." Sera replied, "It's just… just…" Her eyes we're still on the magnificent cake. Abigail was about to say something when Sera said, "I am tired, sis."

Abigail looked at her small face. These two children might not admit but they understood the condition of their family very well. With Sean suffering from a rare disease she could only afford his medicines and three proper meals for them daily. Other expenses like School and Electricity Bills were paid by her many part time jobs. Buying the small things like clothes were a burden. For them eating cakes and other snacks were rare, a luxury even, something not affordable by them.

Abigail knows their situation is not the worst. There were people who were worse than them. But still she couldn't help but feel bad. These two kids are so small they shouldn't have had to think about these things. They should have enjoyed their childhood like other kids. She could not help but sigh.

But now things will change. Abigail's eyes shone with determination. She will give them a better life. She held Sean securely in her arms and bent down on a knee in front of Sera. Sera looked at her in confusion. But Abigail just gave her a large smile and said,

"Hmmm… This piggy is in a particularly good mood. So, it is thinking of offering a very special lady a rare free ride. But that is only if she gets on quickly. This piggy is very busy today. It has a long way to go. Hoot….hoot"

"Really?" Sera asked as her eyes opened wider in amusement.

"Yes, but the offer is only available if the lady gets on in a count of three. One…"

And Sera jumped onto Abigail's back.

"Hey, hey,  young lady did anyone tell you that you are as light as a feather?"

Abigail asked as she stood up. And she began to walk.

"No, because no other piggy ever offered me a ride." Sera giggled.

"Hmmm… So it is… Young lady or should I say lad."

"It's lady." Sera pouted.

"Oh sorry your clothes confused this piggy." Abigail chuckled.

"Sis!!!" Sera shouted.

"Haha, just joking." And they laughed.

They passed by the cake shop but none of them noticed it again as they continued to tease each other and have fun. In that wintry Christmas night as the people walked through the streets they saw an incredible sight.

A young girl carried two children on her as she walked braving the cold wintry breeze. They dressed in tattered light jackets which were not at all suitable for the weather. But somehow the three of them seemed warmer than all the other people in the city.

Abigail walked like that for quite a long time. She felt tired, her arms and legs numb. But she didn't mind. If her family was happy she was willing to brave through nine seas and thousand storms just for them. For her nothing was difficult when it comes to family.
