1 Ch. 1 The Calling

A mystical being was floating high in the sky above the roaring city. The nightlife here was bustling unlike other places he had visited. This was his first big city mission. He strolled above the clouds whistling peacefully, at ease. If you didn't know him you'd think he was a slacker, but really he was carefully waiting... for a calling.

A loud ping disrupted his whistling above the clouds. He checked his phone and saw the usual red target. A small upward turn of the corner of his lips could hardly be seen. He thought to himself, "A calling already? Maybe the hustle and bustle tonight isn't as happy as it seems?" He chuckled to himself enjoying his joke that none could hear.

Carefully he lowered himself and followed the phone's directions. The quiet and isolated neighborhood it led him to was far away from his original hideout. He wondered how his phone was even able to pick up the call and suddenly 20 feet above the target, he heard it. He felt his face drain of blood. "Maybe this is going to be more challenging than I thought..."

He easily transferred through the roof and found himself in the attic. He wanted to cover his ears, the calling was as if it was turned on high blast from a boom box on his shoulder. From the singers voice he could tell the caller was a female, but she seriously needed to work on her volume controll. His nose shriveled up in disgust he slowly fell through the ceiling straight into the bedroom. He... might go def because of this mission.

The bedroom was quaint and filled with cardboard boxes. Perhaps she had just moved in... The window was completely covered by curtains hiding the quiet street from view. The small closet was opened with clothing spilling out of it already, and the bed was unmade. A small lamp on a precarious stack of boxes dimly lit the room. Steam from the shower was coming from underneath the bathroom door in a mysterious pool. Distracted by the stingey surroundings not offering much clue to the owner he barely noticed the water shutting off and the obnoxious singing going silent.

Afraid, he hid himself in the pile of clothes... even though he couldn't be seen by the human eye he still kept the habit of hiding from being an intern. The bathroom door opened and steam billowed out like it was an overworked smoke machine. She stepped into the room her figure concealed for a moment. Untill the steam cleared and he saw her clearly.

Her long brown wet hair hung to her waist and a scraggly tan towel concealed her slender frame. Her face was... breath taking. Her sharp cheek bones contrasted with her light blue eyes and thick lashes. Her slender eye brows gave her a refined look while her sparse freckles added a youthfulness to her face. He sucked in a breath staring. He found himself thinking "If it werent for her singing skills maybe she would be a good catch!" He laughed to himself, carelessly forgetting he could be heard.

Her head turned, cocked to the side curiously in his general direction. He felt heat crawl up his neck to the tops of his ears. Even though he was just on a job and she had called him, he felt embarrassed. He sunk further into the pile and partially through the floor, phasing easily. She blinked slowly then turned away shaking her head to her self and muttering 'nonsense'. She stumbled her way over to a small vanity he had forgotten to notice and began to dry her hair. The process of her getting ready for bed took distirbingly long. He found himself wondering, "Do women really put that much stuff on their face? What's that black stuff she's putting on her teeth? Why does she keep brushing her hair every five minutes? it looks fine, we both know you're not going anywhere." Finally she was in bed.

He patiently waited for her to fall asleep. Phasing through floors and walls to explore more of this little home. He noticed the boxes and messes were a common occurrence, but other wise the home was very well laid out. Finally he phased back into the bedroom. She was soundly asleep at last. He grinned to himself pulling out his designated pouch.

"Now let the fun begin!" he whispered to himself impishly.
