4 3

2 months later...

I stared at the calendar, the one standing right in front of me on the table together with other things such as some magazines, papers, pen holder and more, counting in my head.

I did it thrice.

I sighed.

"Hello miss Ryan" Dr. Sorocello, the doctor at the clinic across the building where I worked greeted me cheerfully as she took her seat.

I was in the middle of some meeting when I suddenly passed out. I was immediately brought here.

"Hi," I said.

"I am quite surprised you haven't noticed soon enough," she said seeing the expression on my face.

"Yeah, well," I started "I guess I was bombarded with work"

Dr. Sorocello nodded.

"I see," she smiled "well, congratulations"

I forced a grin.

"Thank you," I said.

She handed me a card. I saw her name on it then a contact number.

"Lucky you because I'm an OB," she said "so don't hesitate to contact me whenever necessary"

I nodded then got to my feet.

"Thank you" I repeated and went out.

"Take care miss Ryan" I heard her say before the door shut close behind.

"How are you feeling?" Diana said as she walked with me down the hallway towards the exit.

"I'm fine," I said. Diana stopped grabbing me by the arm yanking me to look at her. I had no choice.

She bore into my eyes for more than a few minutes before she let out a gasp. I don't know how she was able to guess that.

"Shit" she uttered while I got myself free from her hold.

"Damn it, Meg," she glared at me "tell me whose is it?"

I ignored her and tried to walk past but she was hard to avoid.

She grabbed me again pulling me to face her once more.

"It's not important," I said looking straight into her baby blues.

She glared at me again.

"It's that doctor isn't it?" she said. I almost stop breathing thinking about him. I didn't want to admit it to her but I can't afford to lie either.

"Meg!" she practically shrieked. I felt several stares at once coming from the people around us. I pulled free from her hold for the second time and dragged her with me out of the clinic.

"You have to tell him," she said as soon as we were out "he has a right to know"

I grimaced at the thought.

"Then what?" I said facing her. Diana looked irritated like she wanted to slap me and wake me up from some bad dream.

"I can't believe you," she crossed her eyebrows "he seemed to be a good guy Meg. And I think he loves you"

I shrugged.

"I don't care," I said "if you want to tell him, go"

I watched Diana looked at me wanting to say something but stopped then she attempted it again and shut her lips close once more.

"Fine!," she said at last "I will tell him whether you like it or not and I'm sure someday you will thank me for it"

I shrugged again and walked off.

--

By eight in the evening, there came a knock on my door. I wasn't surprised.

When I had opened it, Andy immediately stepped in and looked at me accusingly.

"Why didn't you tell me?," he started "why do I have to hear it from your friend?"

I locked eyes with him.

"Because it wasn't important," I said nonchalantly. He shook his head.

"That's it?" he exclaimed, "what happened to us was nothing to you?"

He stared at me searching for something in my eyes and face but didn't find any.

He blew out a frustrated sigh and run a hand thru his hair. I saw the tension in his hands with the veins under the skin almost ready to bulge out.

"What were you thinking Meg?," he said looking at me again, a wild expression on his face "you're driving me crazy!"

"What do you want me to do?" I glared at him "barge inside the hospital and beg you to marry me?" I scoffed.

"No!--- yes!--- not that way!" he said sounding indifferent.

I watched him closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

He held on to it for a while and upon releasing it, he opened his eyes and pondered on mine.

"All I want is to be with you," he said softly. It was my turn to search his face.

He reached out to me and gently grabbed me by my arms pulling me closer to him just close enough that I could almost smell his breath.

"I didn't want to take advantage of you," I looked away "you know that"

"I allowed it" I countered in a low tone.

"Still," he went on "I'm sorry if I had permitted that," he paused "but I have no regrets about what happened"

I didn't have anything to say. Silence had fallen around us and all I could hear was the sound of our inhales and exhales. I could even almost hear my heart beating fast in my chest.

"Meg" Andy broke the silence calling my name and my attention.

I found him staring, his eyes piercing me in place.

"Marry me," I gawked at him "let me be a father to our child," he paused "let me be your other half," I can't believe I'm hearing this "let me love you forever and beyond"

I don't know how to respond to that. I felt my heartbeat increased from double to quadruple fast.

"Please" he begged.

I looked at him imagining how awkward our position was. He was still holding me with both arms while I was leaning a bit far away from him.

Then I remembered Danielle. I sighed in my head.

"That was your proposal?" I said "No ring? No ladidadida tricks?"

"Yes," he said.

"You want to get married," I bit my lip "to me"

"Yes," he repeated.

"Fine"

I watched him absorb my words and little by little his face lit up. I never saw someone, particularly a guy, so happy upon hearing that simple word.

It was ridiculous.

Andy let go of his hold and sealed me in a tight hug. I let myself inhale his scent then slowly I put my arms around him too.

"I'm sorry Andy," I whispered in his ears "I just didn't want to place my burdens on you so I never called back"

"I understand"
