1 Chapter One

I was going to be late. This was the first interview I got after I got fired a few months back. I quicken my speed, hoping to get to a less crowded space to summon a cab. Click. Click. Clack. My feet wobble as I stumble over a bump. I look down to see how uneven the sidewalk was, when I slam into someone. I grab onto his shirt to help hold myself up and his hands snake around my hip.

"S-sorry." I stamper. "Wasn't paying attention to where I was going."

I take a step back to look at the guy I bumped into. Brown hair that was slicked back, really nice hazel eyes, and lips that could make a girl faint. He was just utterly perfect. "It's alright." He gives me a smile and my heart skips a beat. "You seem to be in a rush."

"I have an interview I need to get to. I was about to turn the corner and summon myself a cab." I tell him as I fix my skirt.

He raises his hand and a cab stops immediately next to him. "Here you go my lady. I would hate it to be me that makes you late."

"Thank you." I flash him one of my better smiles. "You wouldn't believe how many times I have tried to get a cab to stop."

I move past him and I start to open the door when his hand grabs onto my wrist, stopping me. "My name is Alexander."

"Madison. It was nice-" I pause before saying, "Running into you."

He laughs softly before letting my wrist go. "I hope we can meet again, Madison."

 . . .

I swing open the door to the Woods Company and I move quickly to the receptionist desk. "How can I help you ma'am?"

"I have an interview with Zane Woods at twelve-thirty." I answer, fear crawling up my throat.

"I will let him know you are here." She tells me. "I hope to see you on our team."

I take a step back, a smile on my face. I take a seat in the waiting room and grab a magazine. There was a guy a seat down from me and two ladies across from me. They were wearing some very booby clothes. "What job are you two hoping for?" I ask.

They both look over at me at the same time. "Receptionissst." The blonde answers.

"Me too." The brown haired one says.

When they blink it was like a reptile. I shake my head and force myself to think I just imagined it. "Madison Fox, Zane Woods is ready to see you. He is going to be on the fiftieth floor my dear." The receptionist tells me. I get up, grabbing onto my bag tightly, before I head for the elevators. The two ladies glare at me. I roll my lips back as I quicken my speed. They were really freaking me out. I hit the button by the elevator and it opens up. I step inside and I go to press the number fifty when there was a shout. "Hold the elevator!"

I reach my hand out, stopping the doors from closing. The guy rushes in and gives me a smile. "Alexander?" I question. "You work here?"

"My dad owns the company." He tells me.

My body stiffens at that. I ran into the Alexander Woods. The big time multi-billionaire. His father was so close to being the first trillionaire in the world. "Oh, I didn't even recognize you from the commercials. I should have apologized when I ran into you. It my bad and I-"

"It's alright Madison. It was an accident. No need to apologize my dear." He tells me, pulling my arm away from the door.

He hits forty-five and then fifty. "So, are you the one trying to become my personal receptionist?" He asks.

"Y-yeah. It was the only job offer that seemed interesting." I reply as I fiddle with my bag strap.

"I will make a good word for you before you see my father. I see potential in you, Madison."

We fall silent. The elevator music causes me to sway on my feet. Alexander looks over at me, a small smile forming on his lips. I look up to see what floor we were on when the elevator stops and the doors open. "I hope to see you again, Madison."

He moves past me and out the door. I breathe in heavily before letting out a heavy sigh.

. . .

Zane Woods was standing by the window when I walk  into his huge office. It looked like an apartment but without a bedroom. "Hello sir." I say.

He turns and gives me a smile. "Madison Fox. Your resume is outstanding. The best I have seen so far. Come, take a seat."

I do so and cross my legs neatly. I set my bag down on the floor before I give him my full attention. "Why did you want this job?" He asks me as he stretches his hands out and clasps them together.

"I actually got fired from my other job after telling off a customer." I tell him with a laugh.

"You were a cook back then? And a part-time receptionist?" Woods asks.

"Yes. I have good knowledge for both of those topics." I say.

"Well, I am going to stop asking so many questions since I can tell you are getting nervous. Welcome to the team Fox. I would head down to Alexander's floor right away."

"Thank you so much sir." I gasp out loud.

"Zane is alright with me." He tells me, reaching out to shake my hand.

I shake it once with a hand shake I practiced on myself way too many times.

"You best hurry."

I get up, thanking him again, and head for the elevator.
