Sudden Crisis

Aboard the Romulus, The Flagship of the local garrison, Colonel Grills was busy with the load of paperwork in front of him. There was a lot of reports of various things happening in the system and the surrounding systems.

The Local garrison had lots of responsibilities. Chief among them was to monitor the different ships coming and going in and out of the empire.

As the first line of defense against any Alien invasion, They needed to be alert at all times. There were monitoring systems along all the star systems that made up the border of the empire.

These monitoring systems would provide the garrisons with information regarding any FTL travel to the systems.

Colonel Grills had 16 different star systems under his management, And they had actual presence in only 3 of them. The rest of them were quite systems with nothing much going for them. So they were being monitored remotely with monitoring systems that would let them know if any alien or human vessel transitioned into the system.

As the Border patrol, he was responsible for the safety of this part of the empire's border. And he took that job really seriously. He had given his whole life to the Empire and it's betterment.

He was gonna continue doing that until his last breath. Like most senior officers in the military, He wished to die on duty with the death of a martyr. But he could only hope that. As the following events would be catastrophic to say the least.

As he was going through stacks of different kinds of reports and signing off on them, He received a notification that the Jeager was on move. This alarmed him for a bit.

He quickly pulled up the latest information on them, And it seemed like they were heading back into the empire.

That was good. This was exactly what his superior wanted.

He was quite surprised when he got the sudden order saying Not to let the Jeager go out of the empire. He was to keep them inside the empire at all cost. Why they wanted him to do that? He wasn't sure. As he questioned his superior officer, He only got he reply that it was a matter of national security. Which was enough for him to obey the commands without any questions.

It seemed that he had succeeded in his task. The Jeager was heading back inside the Empire. Which was a good sign.

At the same time, He got another notification that the ships of the Cremer group was finished with their task and was about the head out of the system.

He was aware that the Cremer group had been mining a few resource rich planets just outside of the empire's border for the past few years. It seemed that it had been their biggest haul yet.

He had gotten the notification that a lot more ships were gonna join the fleet soon.

Which was quite impressive to say so.

He signed off on the permit and gave them the green flag to head out of the system and out of the border safely.

After that he continued to do his work for the rest of the day.

After a full day of work, As he was about to retire for the day and was headed towards his room, He got another notification.

Something weird was happening. He looked at the notification and headed back to his office instead of going to this chambers.

When he reached his office, His assistant was already waiting there for him.

"What's going on?" He barked at the young officer.

"Sir, It's the Jeager, There's something going on with it?"

"Something going on with it? What do you mean?"

"Instead of going towards the Lagrange point like we suggested, It changed it's course and is now headed for Planet Hugf." He said as he pulled up the projection.

It showed the Jeager heading towards the planet.

"What is it trying to do? Why is it headed there?" Grills asked. Curious as to it's motives.

"Sir, I think that's not all, Instead of slowing down like they should be doing, They are speeding up instead. It's almost like.."

"They are pulling off an gravity assist." Grill said as he realized what the Jeager was planning to do.

"Show me their projected path after the assist."

The assistant officer pressed a button and it showed the jeager going around the planet and with the help of the gravity assist, Going a few thousands kilometers down the system plane and back up that would lead them near the Lagrange point that they had requested access to.

"I believe they're trying to bypass our restrictions and make a run for it despite our orders."

"It would seem so."

"Prepare to intercept them at their arrival point near the Lagrange point. They're calculations are off. They will be really far away from the point when they are done. "

"Sir, How should we intercept them?"

"Prepare some EMP warheads. Fire at them when they begin to slow down. Let's see how they go anywhere after their circuits are fried. Heh" Colonel Grill gave out a slight laugh.

This Dr. Kita or whoever was in charge of the Jeager was quite foolish, Trying to make a run for it when he explicitly ordered them to get back inside.

'You'll get exactly what you deserve'. He thought to himself.

"Roger that." The assistant said as he made his way out of the room.

He didn't expect the Jeager to try to pull something like this. He expected them to turn back at the face of denial and act just like they wanted him to.

He ordered some food for himself as he sat on his seat and prepared to watch the show that was about to unfold.

It seemed that it was gonna be interesting.

But what he didn't realize at the moment was that the Jeager had planned for just this situation and the Colonel was playing into their hands.
