5 Chapter 4: Promise

- MIYA'S POV -

I felt like time has stopped and I froze, unable to move from where I am standing. I thought I'm the only one who felt that weird feeling, looks like he felt it too.

So this is how it feels like when you meet your mate. Your heart starts to beat fast. My mind is starting to go crazy. Some butterflies fluttering inside your stomach. And later on, you're creating friction between your lips and his.

Damn it! He kissed me! Without asking for permission. He just showed me how a big pervert he is and also a jerk.

"Are you upset because the kiss was only a peck?"

I combed my fingers through my hair and nearly pulled it because of frustration. I looked up at the night sky and can barely see any stars then whispered to the heavenly gods and goddesses.

"What did I do wrong? Why did you punish me by mating me with a pervert?"

Alucard cleared his throat. "You know that I'm right here and can clearly hear every word you just said, right?"

Miya crossed her arms and avoided his gaze. "I don't care."

"Ouch!" He dramatically said and put the back of his hand to his forehead as if he was hurt. "My mate doesn't care about me. I felt my world just collapsed."

How I want to punch his face right now because of his corniness and terrible acting. Can someone just pull me away from him? Seems like I can't leave him here because of this 'mate bond' thing. Great.

Uhh... Kadita and Odette, where are you guys??

"I'm sorry. Talk to me, please?" He held my hand using both of his and looked at me with sincerity in his eyes.

I gaped at him then shook my head and faced the opposite direction. I guess I judged him too early. At least he knows how to apologize.

I shook my head once again. My heart is being abnormal again. Does he know he affects me so much with his simple gestures?

My mate is right in front of me. What should I do? Tell him my autobiography? Remove my mask and show my face to him? Tell him that I escaped my castle just to meet my mate which happened to be him, a jerk but not a complete jerk. I'm totally speechless right now. I don't usually run out of words but with him? It's different.

"Thank you for the 'jerk' compliment. I appreciate it. I guess it's an honor to make you speechless, milady." Alucard bowed down and took my right hand then planted a kiss on it.

Okay, he's arrogant too.

He smirked. "You can say that."

Can he read minds?? He keeps on reading mine. Or is that one of the 'mate bond' thing?

Alucard nodded, reading my mind again. "Yes. You can always block me out of it if you're feeling uncomfortable."

I looked away. Every second I stare into his eyes, not only my brain is getting affected and going crazy, there's this weird feeling in my stomach.

This is a bad idea. It's not that I don't want to meet him, well who doesn't want to meet their mates? My problem is that this might be our last time seeing each other.

I totally forgot about Estes! How would he react if he finds out that I already found my mate? Will he welcome Alucard in our Kingdom? Speaking of Kingdoms...

"Alucard, where are you from?" I asked, finally starting a proper conversation.

He presented his hand to me and I just raised my eyebrows. He chuckled. "Let's have a stroll outside, it's too loud and crowded here. I also want to have some alone time with you."

I didn't hesitate and held his hand. It is indeed loud in here and I kind of like being alone with him tonight because this might be our last meeting.

Earlier, I was wishing that some of my friends will appear and help me from pushing Alucard away from me but now? I just don't want to be away from him. I want him by my side.

When we bumped into each other, we were like normal strangers who keep on insulting each other and later on, he kind of became sweet to me.

"You didn't answer my question."

"Oh right. I live underground." Alucard casually said.

I frowned. I never heard of that Kingdom before. "Which empire?" I asked. Of course, he's from the Light Empire because I'm also from the Light Empire. Mates should be in the same empire, right?

He was about to answer when we heard a few howls not too far away from here. Wolves? How did they get here? They're locked away and will only be released when there is a war.

"AHHHHH!! SOMEBODY HELP ME! NO GET AWAY FROM ME!"

I looked where the scream came from and my eyes widened when I saw the wolf is already attacking the guy.

"What's happening?!" I asked panicking.

"Everyone! Please get back to your carriages and horses and go back to your Kingdoms. The wolves have been released and we still don't know how did they get out. It is not safe to stay here so please evacuate. We will try to slow them down and get them back to their cages." Aurora announced and quickly joined the others who were already fighting the wolves.

I should've brought my bow and arrows and just hid them somewhere near.

"Miya! You need to leave now." Alucard said and went in front of me to cover me from the wolves surrounding us while holding his sword. Where did that come from??

"Drink this, it's a potion that will make you invisible. Ride a horse and go back to your kingdom. It's not safe for you to be here."

I shook my head. "No! I am not leaving you here. I may not have brought my weapon but I can still fight."

Alucard faced me and held both of my shoulders. "Please don't be stubborn. I don't want my mate to die tonight—" I cut his words off.

"The feeling is mutual, I don't want my mate to die either. This might be our last meeting, Alucard. I only escaped just to attend this party. They won't allow me to leave the castle ever again. I'm afraid that I may not see you again." I can feel my eyes starting to feel hot. Tears pooling in my eyes.

Alucard smiled at me and held my cheeks. "I promise you, Miya we will meet again. I will come and find you. And if I don't find you, I will still keep looking for you, milady." And with that, he kissed me on my forehead before facing the wolves.

I'll hold onto that promise, Alucard. I will wait for you...
