15 Chapter 14: The Curse

- MIYA'S POV -

"Queen Rafaela, it's an honor to see you."

She cleared her throat and offered her hand to help me stand up. I gladly took it and smiled at her.

"Cut the formalities. What brings you here, goddess of the Moonlight Kingdom? You probably have a very big problem to the point you need to kill yourself temporarily just to talk to me. So tell me, what's the problem? Is there another war happening between the two empires? If that's so, I'm afraid I cannot help you with your problem."

I shook my head while waving my hands at her, "No. There is no war happening at the moment. I just need your answer to my question then I'll go back to the Land of Dawn. May I, Queen Rafaela?"

Rafaela sighed and went closer to the window, "Go. What's your question. I thought it's something serious since you've already gone this fa—"

"Your Majesty, why did you mated us with our own enemy? If it's forbidden because of the rules then why did you still paired us? We already have a big problem with the wars happening with our Empire. Now this mate bond? I know there's a reason, Queen Rafaela. Can you please stop it so the next generation won't suffer anymore if they encounter this kind of problem? I want us to be the last one who will face this problem. Almost half of the people I know are mated to the people from the other Empire." I explained to her.

She faced me and shock is evident to her face. She looked alarmed, "I'm sorry but I can't stop the mate bond problem. We can't stop it anymore. I'm very sorry. I'm the worst queen whoever seated on that throne. I can't do anything with your simple problem and here I am unable to do anything. I'm terribly sorry."

I frowned at her, "What do you mean? You're the heavenly gods and goddesses, the most powerful creatures standing on this planet. How can't you stop the mating of people to their enemies??"

Rafaela smiled bitterly, "That's what all of you think. We're not the most powerful creatures here now. Ever since that incident happened. Everything changed. A war also happened here, Miya. Not only your empire is having this problem."

"A war? Up here? How? Is that even possible??"

The queen nodded, "Yes. Surprising, right? One of them has access to our Kingdom because the castle can recognize that person, even though his appearance and personality totally changed because of the power he is yearning for."

I placed my hand to my mouth. So it's real? I thought those were only made-up stories and legends, but the queen is now confirming it to me that it really happened.

How could he? He left his mate just for power? How cruel can this world be?

"Looks like you already know the story, Miya but I will still share it again, I don't mind. Do you?"

I shook my head, "No, not at all."

The queen smiled, "We were once peaceful living up here. Until that day, the demons attacked our Kingdom, though they can't get inside of the castle since the castle has an ability to recognize people. We have no choice but to fight back. Then one of the demons brainwashed him, that they can give him ultimate power. When he heard about the power, he shut off his mind link to me and not even hesitating to come with them. Now, he's our enemy, he was a great king, a great ruler and my beloved mate, but everything fell because of the power he's wanting for years. I never saw him again except for his little minions. I can't afford to see him anyway, I feel like I want to throw up because of disgust."

I kind of feel bad. I thought they were having a good life up here, no wars, no battles, everything is at peace, but I was wrong. So if I really die, I will still encounter wars? Isn't there a place in this world where no battle has ever happened? Just peace?

Then I remember why I'm here.

"Queen Rafaela, about the mate bond. The reason why I'm he—"

She smiled sadly, "It's also because of him. You knew the prologue of the story but not the epilogue."

I frowned. There's still more? "I don't understand. I thought he left already because he became the King of the demons?"

Rafaela shook her head, "He came back after a week. Not for a war but asking me to become his queen again."

My eyes widened, "What??"

She nodded, "He said he can't leave me alone here. He said he can't live without me but look at him now! He's enjoying his power and he's planning to take over our Kingdom as well. And I'm afraid he might visit your world down there to make trouble. He's not Argus anymore, he's not the man I used to love..."

"And then what?"

"Of course I refused his offer, even if it means staying by his side for good. I can't leave this Kingdom. I love this Kingdom, as much as how I love him before. After I rejected his offer, he raged. It's almost like I rejected my own mate and it almost killed me too because of pain."

She rejected her mate. Gusion got rejected by his own mate. How can he act so normally then if the pain can almost kill you?

"And that's when your problem started." The queen said while playing with her staff and sat on the bed beside me.

"I don't understand, your majesty."

Once again, she bitterly smiled, "He made a curse that will bind a person to another one but they can't be together because of their empires and rules. He made that curse because he doesn't want to be alone, he dragged other people to his own misery. He wanted others to feel his pain, his suffering. So that he won't be the only one who is suffering in the dark."

Everyone deserves a happy ending, it's just that fate doesn't let them have their happiness.
