13 Chapter 12: Sacrifice

- MIYA'S POV -

After Odette and Tigreal left the castle, I immediately took a torch and went to the basement where Alucard and the others are being held up. I tried to talk to Estes to let them go because they did not do anything wrong. We started the fight, specifically Tigreal who made them mad. I wonder where Gusion and Guinevere go.

I peeked inside at the little window and almost burn the whole castle since I nearly drop the torch. My eyes widened when I saw Alucard pointing his sword to Estes, his arms are raised as if he's surrendering. I quickly opened the door to stop them.

"Try me." I heard Estes said.

Estes frowned at him and tilted his head, "Why did you stop? Afraid to kill me in front of your mate?"

Alucard let go of his sword and walked towards me but I stopped him then raised my palm.

"How c-could you?" I couldn't hold my tears anymore and I just cried in front of him.

He held my cheeks and gently wiped my tears away using his thumb, "No Miya, it's not what you think. Let me explain—"

I shook my head and pushed his hands away, "How can you explain that?? You nearly killed him! What if I didn't make it in time here?"

"Miya—"

"I can't believe I'm mated to someone like you!"

He froze and stared at me. I stared into his eyes and all I can see is one thing. He's hurt.

Then I realized what I've just said. Damn it, Miya!

"No, Alu. That's not what I meant—"

"Congrats on your wedding." He said coldly. His voice completely changed and the way he looks at me is different now.

Alucard took his sword and removed the chains that were tieing the other two. They already gained consciousness.

I felt needles piercing through my heart when Alucard just passed me without glancing, the other guy followed him. This is my fault, I deserve it. I've hurt him too much, this is my punishment.

The woman was left inside with us. I can't see her face properly because of the hood she's wearing. She walked next to me but before she went out of the door. she whispered something.

"I can't believe he's mated to you. He doesn't deserve someone like you, he deserves someone better." And then she left.

Estes hugged me while caressing my back, "Don't let her words bother you, Miya. It's obvious that she likes your mate but you're much more better than her. And your mate? You don't deserve a guy like him with low rank. You deserve someone with a high rank like you. Marry me, Miya, goddess of the Moonlight Kingdom.

He kneeled in front of me and kissed the back of my hand then looked at me intently while waiting for my answer.

I snatched my hand from him and quickly shook my head before taking a step backwards.

"You know I have a mate, Estes! Can't you wait for yours?! Even if you ask me that question a hundred times, my answer will remain the same. It's a no. I won't give up that easily on Alucard. I will fight—"

Estes scoffed, "You'll fight? But the problem here Miya is 'will he fight for you'?"

I ran out of words because of his question. He's right... Will Alu fight for me? For us?

"Yes." I answered.

His brows furrowed, "How are you so sure about that?"

"Because he is my mate and I trust him." And I think I'm starting to fall for him.

Estes combed his hair using his fingers. He's frustrated.

"Stop this foolishness, Miya! You will fcking die! And I'm not going to let that happen. Look at what happened to your parents! Are you going to do the same mistake they did?!"

I stopped. Processing what he just said. Does he really need to mention what happened to my parents?? And what mistake is he talking about.

My eyes started to water, "Mistake? Are you saying that I'm a mistake? That I should've not been born because I was made by mistake??"

It's his turn to make his eyes widen and he immediately shook his head, "No, no, Miya. That's not—ugh. Listen, what I'm trying to say is that they died because of their love for each other and that's forbidden. I don't want the same thing to happen to you. Your mate is from the Dark Empire, and you're from the Light Empire. How are you going to work out? If the King finds out about this, he will consider you as a traitor and might kill you because of that. I can't let that happen. I understand if you don't want to marry me but please, stay away from him."

I avoided his gaze and decided to put down the torch to the side holder.

If mating me to him was a mistake, why did the heavenly gods and goddesses mated us then? Gusion is also mated to a girl from the other Empire. The same thing to Kadita who is paired to a Fire Prince who is also from the Dark Empire.

I'm sure there is a reason. They wouldn't do that if it's just for fun. I need to talk to them. I need to talk to their queen.

Rafaela...

Then I'm going to need some help.

"What the hell, Miya?? Are you crazy?! Do you even know how to reach Queen Rafaela or the other gods and goddesses there?! Gosh! You're risking your life!" Kadita scolded.

"She's right, Miya. You can't just kill yourself temporarily just to talk to her. What if you really died?" Gusion said.

We're inside my room. I called Kadita and Gusion who have the same situation as I am in. I know that they want to do the same thing but that means we need to sacrifice a life for this. I intentionally didn't invite Odette, she'll immediately stop me from what I'm planning to do.

"That's why I need your help. You do your witchy spell on me to stop my heart for a short time then poof! We got the answer to our major problem."

"Even if we're two mages here, our power combined will still not be enough and there's a big chance that your heart will stop beating forever, then you're dead. I'm not sacrificing my friend's life for my own happiness, Miya." Kadita said and smiled.

"Kadita has a point. Let's just give up, Miya. It's more painful to see your mate suffering or even worst, dying because of the bullshit rules." Gusion added and smiled sadly.

"If I join you guys, would that be enough?"

All of us faced the door and saw Guinevere standing there while her arms are crossed.

Gusion frowned, "Gwen—"

She smiled to us, "I'll do anything to help you guys, especially for Gusion."

Signs that you're in love with someone? You'll do anything for that person just for his/her own happiness. Even if that happiness won't be brought back to you.
