Henley
Watching Mom and Maxwell dance, a part of me wondered if I had sold myself short by not marrying a man who loved me like that. But I quickly pushed the thought aside. This day wasn’t about me. Mom had waited a long time to be happy, and now, she was, and I couldn’t be happier for her.
“What were you thinking about just then?” Declan asked, taking my hand.
I shrugged. “Nothing. Just enjoying watching them.” I nodded toward Mom and Maxwell. “They’re so in love with each other.”
Declan let out a deep breath as he sat back. “Is it making you think of us?”
I stared at him for a moment, unable to believe he had just asked me that. “A little.”
He nodded as he stood and took my hand. “Henley, I—”
“Don’t say it,” I cut him off. “Please… not today.”
