11 The Impossible Story(2)

Bain carried Avril in his arms like a princess. The worst part was that Avril couldn't have struggled if she had wanted to. She felt so drained today, like she had used every reserve within her body. This feeling made Avril feel weak, powerless. As Bain strode along the dirt road behind Avrils house, she looked at his profile. His strong jawline and defined cheekbones made him stand out among these people. His red eyes gleamed with a dark light that she had never seen before. When she had looked at the light elves on the streets of the market yesterday, they gave off a peaceful, joyous emotion. Of course under this light carefree sentiment, they had a hard edge to them. Marking them as warriors of one kind or another. Bain was like a blade, sharp, deadly, and lethal. He was all hard edges and dangerous to the core. But Avril saw how soft he was with her. He handled her like a injured, scared butterfly. Like she was too delicate to exist. She knew he wasn't a killer of all, like most thought. He was a protector, hardened by the ways of this world. Jaded from getting his heart ripped out to many times, only to put it back in his chest so he could feel the pain. She just wondered if she revealed it all to him, if he would stick around. If he would help her in this strange new world that was full of strange new creatures. She really didn't know if she had a choice at this point. Avril thought about how she seemed to just spill the beans around him non-stop since she had met him in her bedroom at this point. He pulled the truth out of her like when a man pulls a fish from water. He already had her on the hook, at this point it was just a matter of how long she would struggle just beneath the surface.

....

Bain Saw how Avril was looking at him, it was as if she was trying to delve inside his skull with her burning stare. He wondered what she was contemplating so hard on, surely it couldn't be that hard to tell him the truth of her tale. That was all he was really after too. The truth of it all, and the truth of Avril. She was a mystery, like his own personal puzzle. He knew he had only known this little fox for a few hours, but it didn't seem like it. He felt like he had met a piece of himself, like he had known her his entire life. Bain shook his head at the nonsense rambling through his mind. That was crazy, she was just an ordinary kitsune. Nothing special at all, maybe slightly more interesting than other people. But non the less, still ordinary. Bain scanned the streets, looking for a vendor to stop at. As he was looking he felt Avril tap his jaw to get his attention.

"What's up?" Bain asked looking down. Only to brush against her fox ears. he felt the softness against his jaw, and felt like a cat getting scratched behind its ears. It felt so good to have her soft fluffy fur brush up against him, he instinctively nuzzled at her ear. Suddenly hearing a deep throaty purr, he looked down. She was purring at her ears getting nuzzled. The sound was intoxicating, he thought. Again reacting out of instinct Bain used his canines to gently tease her ear. A sigh escaped her lips. As Bain heard her sigh all thoughts escaped his mind. He felt hot all over at that sigh, but at the same time shivers ran along his spine. Avril tilted her head up, looking at him with her big golden eyes. It was almost his undoing.

"Bain?" Avril asked in a breathy tone, looking at him.

"Yea little fox?" Bain asked trying to rein in his urge to kiss her.

" There's a vendor down that ally, if you go that way we'll be there in about five minutes. " She said, but the look on her face was filled with something else. Something that looked like desire lurked in her shining eyes, but also a look of fear. Bain pulled back, reining in his desire. He experimentally leaned forward, like he was going to kiss her. The look of fear that lurked behind her desire flared full force as she released a primal growl at him. Confusion struck him. He could tell she wanted him, she wanted to trust him too. He could see it on that face. She wore her heart on her sleeve, making her easy to read. But when he had tried to make his move on her, if you could even call that a move, she pulled back. Her eyes had misted over as if she was in a different place, like she was re-living a battle. That was a look he recognized, a look one so young as her should not have. He made speculations as to what could have happened that made her fear him so much. He had seen women with this type of reaction before, but where had he seen them. He wracked his brain trying to think as he walked. He walked by a brothel startling him as it triggered his memory. Girls that had been abused, drugged, raped. Girls who were forced into a life fit for not even an animal. Prostitutes, or worse slave girls who had cruel, evil owners. The very thought of anyone even trying to attempt such a thing on his fox made his blood boil. Would she have ever been put in that situation? If so he wanted to know who had done it. If only so he could string them up and torture them until they went insane, till their brains went to mush and they were barely alive. As these thoughts bounced around in his mind he walked to the tables surrounding the vendor. Choosing the one he thought looked cleanest, he gently set Avril down. Bain went up to the vendor, ordering food for her. As he thought of the horror stories he had heard from warriors of what really went on in brothels, he started to get boiling mad. In his anger he started to release his profound energy without realizing it. The vendor suffocated under his sheer willpower, cowering on the floor. The air vibrated with Bains murderous aura. The kind only the most battle hardened warriors could possess.

"Bain, come sit down. We have a lot to go over if I am to tell you the whole truth." Avrils low, warm voice called him back from the dark recesses of Bains mind.

" Ok Avril, I'm just waiting for your food."

"Alright." She said in a tone that was soaked in impatience.

Bain looked at the vendor as he realized he had been leaking profound energy. Dazed the vendor looked at Bain. Bain felt a little guilty realizing the pressure he had been pressing upon an ordinary civilian. Helping him up Bain took the freshly baked cinnamon roll out of the mans hand. Good thing he can't see through my spell Bain thought as he walked back towards Avril. Her hair swirled around her, making it seem as though she was a great wave of wind swirling around in the sky.
