BSWS CH-34 The Chunin Exams II - Experimenting with New Technique

Sakura focused on the task she had decided on and carefully created the thinnest chakra string and needle she could manage. It was so thin that it was not even visible to the naked eye. She could only 'see' it through her chakra sense.

She created five threads, one from each finger of her right hand. She could have created more, but she needed the utmost concentration right now. The chakra threads slowly seeped into the ground and carefully moved towards one of the members of the sound trio, Zaku.

From what Sakura remembered about them, the girl among the Sound Trio was a Genjutsu specialist, having the name Kin Tsuchi. Their captain was the weird freakish looking male, Dosu Kinuta. Dosu seemed to be the strongest among them with the most experience.

Hence by the rule of elimination, it was obvious that she will have to take Zaku Abumi, the third member of the group with dumb and reckless nature, as her test subject.

As the chakra strings reached Zaku. Sakura took a pause and carefully arranged the Genjutsu she planned to cast in her mind. After she was convinced that it was the most subtle and delicate one she can weave, she struck forth with strings. The strings were like a strike of a viper, silent and deadly, as they sunk into his four limbs and the last one sank into Zaku's spine.

Initially, everything seemed normal. But a few moments later, Zaku frowned in the middle of writing the answer he had just managed to copy. The reason for the pause was that the answer he wrote seemed different from the one he remembered.

Deciding to make sure, he erased the answer and once again sneakily looked at the answer sheet of the person he had copied from. Carefully memorizing the answer, he once again started writing. But halfway through the answer, he found that the answer he wrote was once again a wrong one that was different from the one he had just memorized.

'No!! I will copy it perfectly this time!!!' Zaku thought as he angrily grabbed the paper and started looking and copying word to word. However, this time he was muttering out the answer and leaning towards the one he was copying from without even realizing it.

Ibiki looked at the foolish Genin of the Sound Village with barely concealed disgust. He had ignored the foolish attempts of this Genin twice, but he simply didn't learn and got even more stupid with each attempt to cheat. Currently, he was doing worse than a civilian with no ninja training would.

'Enough is enough.' Ibiki thought as he gave the signal to the sentinel in charge of that section. The sentinel nodded and threw a Kunai with precision, piercing through Zaku's paper and sticking to his desk.

Zaku's eyes focused on the Kunai as if he had woke up from a dream, he looked at the Kunai, the mess he himself had made on the answer sheet, and then at the Sentinel.

"Candidate number 151, you have got five strikes. You and your team are hereby disqualified. Please exit the premises." the Sentinel said coldly.

Zaku was stunned, but that was nowhere near the shock on Dosu and Kin's faces. They could not believe that despite knowing how important the mission Lord Orochimaru gave them was, Zaku still managed to get them all to fail in the first stage itself.

Sakura meanwhile grinned sneakily as she retrieved the strings. She knew that Dosu and Kin would be in a maelstrom of emotions right now, and she decided to strike at the time when the iron was hot. Generating a second set of strings from her left hand, she repeated what she did with Zaku to Kin and Dosu.

Looking at Zaku, Dosu felt an incredible amount of anger and annoyance suddenly. Because of this moron, Orochimaru was going to be incredibly pissed at them. There was a good chance that Orochimaru might actually kill them to sate his anger.

Angered by the helpless situation Zaku had put them in, Dosu's eyes saw red. He unwrapped his bandages on the right arm and punched out powerfully "Zaku!!! You bastard!!! I am going to kill you!!!!"

Sound waves emerged from the punch and concentrated around Zaku' rupturing his eardrums and heavily damaging his inner organs. Dosu had used nearly a third of his chakra on this sneak attack, so this result was not surprising.

Kin was angry too at Zaku, but she felt angrier at Dosu for being so heavy-handed at their teammate he had spent so much time with. Taking out a dozen Senbons, she attacked Dosu by throwing them at his vital points.

Suddenly, both Dosu and Kin got restrained by four sentinels. Sakura quickly and silently removed the strings once again, letting both of the Sound Genin regain their thought process. She watched with satisfaction as they both realized the horror of the actions they had committed.

"Enough!! I have had enough of the three of you from Sound Village. First, you pick a fight before the exam had even started, now you cheat and fight in the middle of the exams with no regard to the authority of the proctor or the sentinels. You will hereby be restrained and strict actions will be taken against you. Take them away!!" Ibiki thundered.

The Sentinels took the Sound Trio away without giving them a chance to explain. Sakura looked at this happily. The first series of tests had happened beautifully. It was true that it took a while to prepare and apply, unlike regular Genjutsu. However, it seemed that her new method made the Genjutsu pretty hard to even be detected, let alone attempting to dispel it.

'Alright, the first stage was successful. Now let's see if instead of simple illusions and influencing through Genjutsu, I can actually use this as a method to communicate.' Sakura thought.

She knew that both Akatsuki and Kara had displayed means to contact their members through long-distance Genjutsu. She was going to experiment if she could use her new method to replicate this in the short-range.

She sent her strings towards Sasuke and Naruto this time. Once she was connected to them with her strings, she cast a Genjutsu to transmit her voice to them as if she was next to them.

'Sasuke! Naruto! If you can hear this, DO NOT REACT! A few seconds after I finish speaking to you, slowly scratch your head and adjust your headband. Then pretend to rotate and stretch your neck while taking the opportunity to glance at me.' Sakura transmitted the thought to them as her voice through Genjutsu.

A few seconds later, she saw Naruto and Sasuke silently follow her instructions before pretending to go back to their paper. Sakura smiled inwardly with jubilation. It had worked beautifully, the new method was a success beyond what she had initially thought it to be.

'Alright, guys. I don't know if you will be able to transmit your thoughts to me the way I am doing to you but let's not focus on that for now. I am going to tell you the answers now. Listen carefully and write them down.' Sakura said before slowly telling them all the answers.
