5 Chapter 5: The Incident

Three years later, in a courtyard of an estate, a little girl with white hair and crystal blue eyes is chasing after a blond boy. "Naruto nii chan!" she squeals as she runs up to him. As she gets closer she suddenly asks, "Nii chan, are you going to Hinata hime's birthday with us?"

"Eeh, I didn't know there was a party today, but I guess if Tsunade baa chan says it's okay, I can go!" Naruto responds, giving a wide smile to Hikari.

"I don't see why Naruto kun can't join us" Tsunade says as she steps into the courtyard. She walks over and picks up her daughter. "In fact, it's time for you to start getting ready for the party yourself Hikari."

"Yaaay," the little girl laughs as she clings to her mother. Looking over and seeing Naruto heading into the house, she calls out to him, "Oh, Nii chan, you need a gift for Hinata hime. She likes flowers a lot!"

Meanwhile, in the village, the kumo nin are still meeting with the Hokage in an attempt to settle the treaty between the two villages. Yet, in the undercurrents of the village, other plots and schemes are being laid. "Is the project ready?" asked a man wearing a blank mask.

"It is indeed ready to be implemented," responded another from the shadows who was holding out a clear glass cylinder to the Anbu. "All we need is an opportunity now."

Back at the Hyuga estate, Tsunade can be seen walking up with her daughter and Naruto. Both Tsunade and Hikari are wearing robes with old, senju vajra crests on them while Naruto is wearing robes with the Uzamaki clan symbol, reminiscent of what his father once wore. "Welcome, Senju sama," the Hyuga clan guards say while bowing.

Hikari ignored practically everyone as she began dragging Naruto through the crowd of people rushing over to Hinata, who was with her father. Hikari greeted them in proper form, "Good evening, Hyuga sama." Naruto repeated the greeting after Hikari, before both of them gave their gifts to Hinata. "We hope you're having a pleasant birthday today Hinata hime," they both say as they bow.

With the gifts out of the way and the formalities handled, Hikari looks back at Hinata's father with a glint in her eyes. "Neh neh, Hiyashi Oji chan can I stay the night again after the partys over?" she asks with her best puppy dog face.

Hiyashi was caught off guard and took critical damage. Unable to say no since they'd allowed it before, he simply told her, "only if your mother says you can stay."

"Yosh, mission accomplished," she said giving a tiny fist pump to the air, heading back over to her mother and completely forgetting about Naruto at this point. She spent the rest of the evening meeting other clan members and going through formalities. Eventually, the festivities came to a close as other clans left the estate.

"I'll entrust my daughter to you tonight," Tsunade said as she nodded her head to Hiyashi before leaving for home.

In Hinata's room, two girls were talking about all the stuff they had started doing recently. Hikari got a shock when she realized Hinata had already started training to learn the clans techniques and vowed that she'd at least not fall behind. After an hour of chatter, the two three-year olds finally fell asleep.

After waiting for the perfect timing, the Kumo nin snuck into the room, but was startled by the presence of a second child, who had sat up when he got close. Panicking, he decided to get rid of the extra child. He struck out with his sword but right before his strike connected he registered who the child was and quickly tried to divert the blow and ended up slashing across the child's face instead. Cursing, the ninja grabbed Hinata and fled as Hikari let out a scream in pain. It literally couldn't have been worse. If he had actually killed the Senju brat, there was no doubt Konoha wouldn't have rested until the entirety of Kumo or itself had been wiped out.

The Kumo nin fled as quickly as he could. He glanced back to notice that the Hyuga clan response was being slowed down by responding to the child in the room first. He laughed and started to think to himself that maybe it wasn't that bad after all. At least, that was his thought until everything went dark.

Jiraiya had heard the scream since he was on guard duty -- or "papa shall destroy all who comes near" duty, as he called it. Looking over, he noticed the fleeing ninja carrying something, and knowing his daughter had been there, he took no chances, immediately giving chase. It took almost no effort for him to catch the ninja and mercilessly squash him like a bug, outright killing the man with the force of the blow. Jiraiya picked up Hinata and quickly made his way back to check on his daughter first.

When he arrived, the Hyuga clan members were giving him looks mixed of relief and sorrow. He frowned and handed off Hinata before quickly entering the room Hikari was in. Fear gripped his heart as he saw a pool of blood and his daughter lying on her back, a Hyuga giving her first aid. He rushed over, picking Hikari up and giving the order for them to quickly send word to Tsunade to head to the hospital before running there himself with a few of the Hyuga following as an escort. His only thought was that he should've left the bug he had squished alive as death was too lenient for this.
