5 Chater Five: Silence

Harmony hurriedly tried to find her. She decided to check at her bunk with a happy sigh. "Finally, I looked everywhere for you."

"Oh really? I didn't think you'd care about where I was. You looked kinda busy with everyone else at the arena." Nyla was stuffing papers and clothes into her bag. The items she took crumbled under her hands.

"Umm, what are you doing?"

"What does it look like, Avatar? I'm going back home. The people there don't lie to me in front of my face. How idiotic do you think I am?"

"I don't think you're idiotic and I didn't try to lie to you. I lied to protect you. No need to get feisty, 'friend'." She signaled the quotations in the air with her hands.

"Yeah, maybe I don't want to be friends anymore." Nyla looked up at her with an anger burning in her eyes.

Silence loomed over the girls all the while Harmony's heart shattered in a million pieces. "..What? We've been together for our entire lives and you're.. Y-you're trying to leave? What's your problem? Where is this coming from?"

"Since you're the Avatar, you don't need me. I wanted to be the Avatar to save the people at home. You're not the type to go out of your way for someone else unless it suits you and is in your interest."

She felt crushed that her friend, ex-friend, would even insinuate anything like this. She definitely wasn't the girl she met all those years ago anymore. "Don't you think I get that!? I didn't want to be it! It's not my fault. I know I'm not meant for this. I'm the complete opposite of what it should be. To hear all this from you is.. I thought you were my best friend."

Nyla laughed harshly in her face. "You're right. I was your best friend, right up until the point you decided to keep this super important thing from me. I was there when you almost got caught by the police, when you got caught and I had to bail you out, and I had to save your sorry ass from millions of terrifying situations. Why couldn't you just tell me?"

"I couldn't! Ok? It was hard enough to learn I had the abilities and telling you wasn't gonna be easy. I tried my best to figure out what to say and how to say it. I only found out a few days ago, during one of your lessons. Mako just happened to be there and saw me moving a rock, but I made him swear to secrecy."

"You told a complete stranger, you knew for a while, and you still couldn't tell me? Some best friend you are. Have fun with your training, Avatar." Nyla grabbed her bag and started to head for the door, bumping Harmony out of the way with her arm.

"Nyla, please!" She grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. "Why are you acting like this?" Tears welled in her eyes. "You're the only one I have left. I can't do this without you. I do need you." The bender turned her body to gaze at her friend with sad eyes. She let out a heavy sigh and pushed her lips to Harmony's. Harmony felt stiff and just stared at her in shock.

Nyla pulled away, picking her bag off of the ground. "I'll see you around." She left Harmony in the bunk without an explanation to what just happened.

Harmony fell to her knees and let the tears fall down. Her friend, her BEST friend, had just left her after giving her a kiss. Everything happened so suddenly, but she couldn't dwell on it. Nyla was the one who decided to leave so she had to piece herself together. She only had one person in her life now.

***3 Weeks Later***

Harmony had been working on new bending abilities to keep her mind off of the last fight she had with... Nyla. Bolin watched her progressively get better and better. Learning new skills came easily for her. "Watch your face! You need to keep a strong stance, Harmony!" He threw flying rock discs at her, allowing her to follow his instructions. The discs broke along her fists as she kept her stance.

"I'm watching!"

"Keep your head up. You're doing great!" Asami shouted from her seat.

She her eyes made their way in her direction and she raised her hand to wave, but Master Jinora pushed a small wave of wind in her face. "Don't become distracted. Keep your head in the fight."

Her face turned to a smirk as she water whipped her teacher; Jinora barely dodged this attack. "Trust me, I'm focused."

Mako readied his fireball and aimed for her shoulder, striking her. "Nice, but you gotta watch all your angles."

"Ouch! What the hell?" She grasped her burn, wincing.

"No cursing!" All of the mentors spoke in unison.

"Sorry! That really hurt, Mako." She sat in the stadium, healing herself; She failed miserably. "Ugh! I've been trying to practice my healing, but it's just not working.."

"You should read up on the scrolls a bit more. I can talk to my Aunt Kya. She would gladly show you some of what she knows."

"Are you sure? I don't wanna bother her.. It would be a big help." Her chest went in and out as her nervous breath made its way out.

"I'll try to find out where her and Bumi are. I think that's enough practice for you today." She pushed some air to her shoulder, easing the pain for a second. "Get some rest. Tomorrow, the fun begins."

"Can't wait." Her smile faltered a bit as her head lowered. "Someone, take me out of my misery."

Asami chuckled and put a hand on her shoulder. "What is it?"

"Look, I LOVE Master Jinora, but she pushes me too hard.. I don't really wanna do air bending training anymore. It's kinda difficult."

"That's probably because you're an Earthbender. It's your opposite element." Bolin raised a pebble and it made its course to his brothers forehead.

Mako immediately put him in a headlock and laughed. "Yeah, or you're more like Korra than we thought." They grabbed at each others arms and clothes, trying to one up the other. "She was headstrong and air bending is more of a calming element."

"I'm not an Earthbender and I'm not headstrong. I'm just.. tired." She sighed and grabbed her arm.

"Come with me. Let's talk." Asami smiled brightly and pulled her away quietly from the annoyance fighting in front of them. She took them back to the first place they met. "So?"

"I, umm. There's not much to talk about, honestly. I'm just tired."

"Yeah, are we going to keep on with the b.s. or are you going to tell me what's wrong?"

"Wow.. Do you have a radar on me or something?"

"Maybe I do. Talk to me?" Her face had a look of wanting to know, but willing to wait.

Harmony sighed. "Its.. Nyla. I haven't heard from her in a while. I don't even know if she's ok or not..."

Asami bit her lip. "What if she wasn't ok?"

"What?"
