8 The Girl in the Mirror

Ghosts Live Inside Mirrors, waiting to attack You. If you looked into the mirror and saw your own corpse staring back at you after a loved one had passed, this was an omen that you were to be the next to pass.

A weird scary voice spoke in my head making me turn in the bed uncomfortable. it no face or a body I couldn't detect anything and don't know where is coming from. You're next, you're Next! it screech breaking the mirror and I heard spattered sound as it was scattered on the floor. I hold my head with both my hands. Stopping the pain but only gets louder. making me scramble on the bed trying to stop the sound.

A knock on the door wakes me up from my slumber. They hit the door hard enough to wake me up. Thank God I don't hear the scary voice anymore. It's just a dream… more of a nightmare. I heaved deeply before answering the door.

"Come in."

I responded and Luiz came in with someone around his age. Blond-haired, slender, in his casual clothes holding a first aid kit in his hand, I assume he must be that's someone that's going to check me.

They walked to my bed, Luiz sat beside me at the end of the bed and the man sat on the dressing mirror stool near the bed.

"Nyla, Dr. Yiv is here to check you, he's my best friend."

"It's nice to meet you Doc."

I nodded my head and pulled my hands from the duvet, hugging myself as I sat back leaning on the headboard remembering the awful sound that was once in my head.

"Dr. Yiv, Nyla. My little cousin sister."

I glared at him calling me little, I'm not the little anymore. He just smiled and ignore me as he introduced each of us.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Nyla."

The one called Dr. Yiv greeted me with a smile on his while putting on his gloves.

"Uhmm... not a pleasure to me you too."

I muttered under my breath making sure they didn't get the wrong impression and plastered a fake smile, I'm not a fan of doctors. to me they just make it hurt more trying when tending to the wound.

"let's get started shall we?"

Dr. Yiv said without waiting for my approval he remove the bandage on my forehead checking the stitches.

"Ouch, it hurts."

I yelp, clamping my eyes shut. It still hurts a lot. Did I hit my head badly?

"Sorry, we're almost done."

Dr. Yiv declared turning his head to Luiz that was suppressing his laugh, he know I hate doctors.

"Do I have to hold her?"

He said laughing at the end.

"No, thank you."

I snap at him making him laugh more. I'm not five anymore. When will they stop treating me like one?

"You've done great Lu, it's well stitched."

Dr. Yiv admitted looking impressed.

"What'd ya know? I've got a great teacher"

Luilei smiled looking at Dr. Yiv as he wiped something on my wounds and bandaged it again. They finished and left, with Luiz calling me for dinner.

"Is dad not coming today?"

Luiz asked his Aunt Wani after taking a glance at this wristwatch, cutting the fish on his plate.

"Yes, he just called saying he'd be back in the weekend, something important came up."

Ant wani answered him chewing her food.

"Okay."

Luiz nodded his head, I listened to their conversation quietly, my eyes dozing off. Thank God Aunt Wani didn't continue asking about the past years and Yeye's death. I didn't touch my plate, because I don't have an appetite. Luiz had to drag me to the dinner table.

Hot choco was the last thing I drank but I didn't feel hungry. Where is Mimi? Poor thing, I was so weak to care about her. I felt guilty.

"Where is Mimi?"

I asked rubbing the back of my hand on my eyes, looking at Luiz.

"She fell asleep in the sitting room after she filled her tummy."

He answered and I nod at him thankfully. I feel more at ease now that she's alright.

"You haven't touched your plate, Nyla it's getting cold."

Aunt Wani's voice called for the hundredth time. It's like my lullaby now because it's making me sleepy.

"Nyla, eat the fish at least it'll help with your wound to heal, Yiv warns me to feed you well."

Luiz was now practically begging me to eat and I grabbed a fork and knife. He has had many effects on me since I was little and I couldn't resist this poppy eyes he made.

Cut, chew, swallow. I repeat the sequence five times. Pushing it down. I grab the glass tumbler with water and sip. Gripping the cup and I see my reflection in it, a big bandage around my forehead, good, this have to stay for a while and my drowsy eyes. I slept in the car but still feel weak.

I blinked my eyes but this time I didn't see a bandaged forehead but a white face with the skin peeling off, now my drowsy eyes are completely black bulging out from the socket, black pus was rolling down from the eyes, nose, and mouth.

I released the glass at once sprawling water on Luiz. My heart is thumping fast. I jolt up from the table. Rubbing my hands on my face to make sure it's me, a bandage, soft skin, and no pus rolling down my face.

I heaved a sigh of relief and dashed back to my room. Muttering an excuse under my breath. Without listening to what they have say.

I hastened to the bathroom, my head spinning. I have to wash my face. Why am I seeing things?

Is it just me or are they real?

No, they can't be. It can't be.

I sprawled water on my face. Staring at my image in the mirror. My face was pale with wet hair caging my face.

"You're not crazy."

"You're not crazy."

I talked to my image in the mirror. My fingers clutch the sink tightly, I droy head panting heavily.

I gazed up and saw a girl in the mirror gawking back at me, her eyes were completely white, with blood dripping from her Lips. With wet unkempt hair covering most of her face.

I screech stepping backward.

Not again. Not again. My breathing began to seize and slipped as I stepped on something that felt like toothpaste. And I hit my butt hard as I drop on the cold tiled floor.

"Don't be scared of me."

Her ear-piercing voice quiver in the bathroom filling my ears. I scrambled up and ran.

"I'm just a friend."

She hollered again, but I didn't stop. I reached the door but it banged shut in my face.

"Come back here."

She ordered, now her voice is deep and commanding. Breeze swung the window making a squeaky sound creeping the Hell out of me.

I was frozen and held up in the air and the brought in front of the mirror, I couldn't move. I grapple to go free, but it's of no use.

"I'm a friend."

She repeat herself.

"You … you don't look like one."

I finally mustered the strength to speak back to her, my voice stammering. I was amazed how her wild face slowly softened, she copied my reflection in the mirror. Now the girl didn't look scary but looked exactly like me, her hair, eyes, nose, and lips. I was amazed how she changed face so quickly.

"I'm not here to hurt you."

She addresses me now her voice sounds just like mine, it's like me talking to myself as I always do but this copy of me actually talks.

"You already did."

I oppose her with complete bitter in my words but my whole body shudders in fear. I struggle earning myself more pain to my body. She observed me a little and then let go of me, falling on the cold tiled floor. This lady? thing? Have no sympathy. Though I am thankful that I can now feel all parts of my body.

"If you try escaping I'll grasp you harder."

She commanded, making me adjust my sitting position on the floor. Clutching my laps praying for this nightmare to end.

"We don't have much time, he'll be here anytime soon."

She proceeded, explaining like I've know her already.

"Who are you talking about?"

I asked her confused. who's about to come, and why?

"Zelzovot, The Demon Prince."

She declared, noticing every of my reaction.

"Demon prince?"

I couldn't help but scoff. I'm not doing this anymore. I slap my face to wake up from this nightmare, again. And again. But I was still sitting on the cold floor in the thin shirt Luiz gave me before and absorbing all the coldness in the bathroom. I felt a hot slap on my cheek making my cheek turn red, burning as if it was burned with cole. And my eye tears up due to the pain.

"Listen to me as I speak to you, this is not a joke. If you want the reality, this is the reality."

I nodded not wanting to endure another slap and reciting every prayer that comes to my head. And the bathroom door was knocked.

"Nyla, open up."

Silence.

"What's wrong with you?"

Silence.

"Are you in there?"

I heard Luiz asking from the other side of the door. I tried to reply to him but no sound came from my mouth. Making my throat squeezed painfully every time I tried. This is pure torture.

Clinging my neck with both my hands, I glanced at her pleading for her to let go of my throat.

She let go of my throat after warning me not to mention her and the door swung open. Luiz entered running towards me with Aunt Wani trailing behind him.
