45 Chapter 40

First POV

"Perfect. We've filled our bellies and cleaned the dishes. It's time for the Test of Courage!" Pixie-Bob yelled enthusiastically.

"We're gonna win!" Mina, Sero, Denki, Kirishima, and Sato exclaimed in unison.

"Not so fast. It pains me to say it but the remedial class will be having lessons with me tonight instead," Aizy pointed out.

I laughed as I pushed up fake glasses that came out of nowhere, "A little salt bae action Mr.Aizawa? Add a little spice to your students' misery."

"Where did you get those- you know what, not gonna question it. I don't get paid enough for this," he grumbled. Capturing the camp failures in his scarf, he said, "Sorry. Your training during the day didn't impress me, so I'll be using this time too." That cannot be healthy… The 5 were dragged away as we listened to their cries slowly deafen from the distance.

"Anyways so! Class B is going to start out as our scarers. When they're in place, Class A will leave in pairs every three minutes. There are tags with your names on them at the far end of the route. Your goal is to collect those." Pixie-Bob explained.

"Revelry in the dark." No no, he has a point. What if Tokoyami was a chicken….would he be cottage core...definitely would.

"Now those who are scarers, aren't allowed to make physical contact. Use your quirks to terrify the others. Got it?"

"The winners are the creative students who can make the most people piss your pants!" Tiger yelled as Pixie-Bob and Ragdoll laughed maniacally in the back. Mandalay is definitely the mom-friend.

I grinned to myself as I slipped off my bracelet. Their fear and concern will be most helpful in this activity. If I know what's coming, then I can't get scared. Better yet, I can scare them back! This is gonna be fun!

"Did we really need that visual?" No Jiro, we did not. Could've gone my whole life without that image in my head, but here we are.

"Oh, I see. They're encouraging us to use our imagination as we compete with each other, all while showing us more uses for our quirks in the process!" Iida exclaimed. I grumbled under my breath, "I'll tell you what Sherlock Holmes, you are unbelievable…"

Izuku turned to me, "What was that Kurosaki?"

"Oh, nothing, don't worry about it."

"Alright, everyone! Draw to see who your partner will be!"

I drew my card and Izuku and I paired up. I slapped him playfully on the back as I smiled widely, "What are the odds!"

He almost fell, but regained his balance, "Yeah. I'm glad!"

About a minute after Tsu and Uraraka left into the forest. Something changed. I sensed it a little at first, but when I used the fear from earlier to heighten my senses, it confirmed something was up. I opened my mouth to speak, but Pixie-Bob beat me to it, "What's this foul smell in the air?"

"You see that?" Izuku said beside me as we all looked in the same direction.

"Black smoke?"

"Has something been set ablaze?"

"Maybe a fire on the mountain?"

I shook my head, "No, this is more than a fire…" Izuku tapped my shoulder and nodded his head for me to continue, "I sense something malicious. It's not completely clear, but it's someone- no a group of people. This is not a natural fire!"

Suddenly, Pixie-Bob got picked up and pulled back fiercely, "What's happening!?"

"Pixie-Bob!"

The next thing we knew, we saw Pixie-Bob laying on the floor with blood coming out of her head. Shit, I only have one knife on me! I left the others with my hero costume!

"First, let's get rid of these feral cats," the villain declared.

Shinsou backed up slightly as he got into a defensive pose, "I thought they made sure no one would find us here…"

Izuku tried to run forward and help her but was blocked by Tiger. Grabbing his arm and pulling him back I whisper yelled at him, "You idiot, get back here right now." His eyes went wide, but not at my words as he made a shocking realization. He whispered worriedly, "Where's Kota!?"

I scanned the area with my eyes, he's right. The kid's not here!

"How are you this evening, UA High School? We are part of the Vanguard Action Squad of the League of Villains!" The lizard man yelled proudly.

"The League of Villains? What are those guys doing here?"

"I could crush this kitty's head so easily. How about it, dears, should I?" The one holding Pixie-Bob hostage said. Wait- I'm confused. I raised my hand and as the lizard man looked at me, he sighed, "What is it?"

I pointed to the other villain as I asked, "Not to be rude or anything, but what're your pronouns?"

Caught off guard they smiled, "She/her deary. What about you?"

Taking my chance, I rushed towards her at top speed, knocking her away and then cradling Pixie-Bob's unconscious body into my arms, "They/them, thank you."

"What the- why you little-!"

However, the villain was stronger than originally thought as she got up and rubbed her shoulder, "That hurt. How dare you!"

Quickly, the other heroes came to my aid as they blocked the villain's path to me. Mandalay looked back at me as she pleaded, "Get out of here. Go somewhere safe, all of you!"

The lizard villain chuckled as he unsheathed his wildly impractical looking weapon, "Call me Spinner. And my colleague over there is Big Sis Magne! I'm here to make Stain's dreams a reality."

Tiger stepped forward with his fists clenched, "I don't care who you are. You're criminals! The woman you injured is named Pixie-Bob. She's a pro hero who's saved countless lives. She's giving her all for these young heroes, pushing them to reach their full potential. She's looking for a mate, but otherwise, she's content. What gives you the right to cut such a happy life short!?"

"Didn't you hear, it's not a hero''s job to be happy!"

"Tiger! I've talked to everyone. Trust the safety of the other students to Ragdoll. You and I will stay here and hold them back! You all return to camp!" Mandalay ordered, "Class Rep, you're in charge on the way there! Don't engage anyone."

Iida obeyed, "Leave it to me. Everyone, let's go!" However, Izuku and I stayed. While everyone was monologuing, I gave Pixie-Bob to Ojiro and Koda to bring her back to camp and to safety. I hate to admit it, even though monologuing is weird and stupid strategy-wise, it does come in handy sometimes.

"Mandalay!" Izuku shouted, "Kota. I know where he is!"

Her eyes went wide for a second, but she gave a firm nod. "Kurosaki, you go with him. Please bring him back safely."

We nodded and our group split up. Pro heroes to defend, the majority of the class went to safety, while Izuku and I go on a mission to find Kota.

a/n: Hey guys, I know this chapter is a bit shorter than usual, but I've had limited time to work on it today. I normally go for 1500 words per chapter and this one is just under 1200. I've been doing homework and studying for like 5 hours already and I'm still not done :') also, I know I've been choppy with chapters lately and I'm trying to get back on track, but teachers suck and keep assigning thing after thing and it's getting a bit overwhelming haha…. And I couldn't find a convenient place to cut off after this scene so yeah lol
