12 Hanging on a Thread

Back to the Present:

"Oh so that's what happend." Lavina nods understandingly.

"Though her identity..." Lavina added worriedly.

"I don't know. We'll ask her when we will have time." Lavian said with a mysterious glint on his eyes but then it disappeared as soon as it surfaced.

But they forgot to mention it for the next few months.

When Shin Ah woke up, she was confused at what was going on. And then she was notified that she's 2 months pregnant and was in a coma. Imagine how she felt at that time.

She was dismayed after waiting for days and weeks of news about her mission and soon succumb to depression.

Every night, she looked up into the skies. Quietly watching it. And wonders if her mission is just a fragment of her imaginative brain. Wonders if the God and the guardians were even real.

Or was it even real?

There are also times that she wondered about her past life. How is her family doing right now? Are they even on the same planet? Is this a parallel universe?

And then, she unconsciously started to doubt herself. Her memories. Her existence. Everything. She doubted. That's when her anxiety spouted. And how she had trust issues.

Some nights, when everything and everyone is sleeping, she's the only one wide awake. She can't sleep. And if she's lucky and somehow fell into sleep, she'll be awoken by plethora of nightmares. Slowly draining her energy and willpower to live.

Or sometimes, cry herself to sleep. Sobbing silently in helplessness and hopelessness.

Everyday, she woke up lifelessly. Like a doll, she mechanically eat and sleep. Waiting. Waiting for something. Waiting for someone.

Her old self broken down and what was left was a piece of crumbling shell. And that was her, just a piece of a shell of her old self.

Her mood got worst when she had her morning sickness. Everything that she ate would end up being vomited. If Lavian and Lavina weren't by her side to guide her, I'm afraid that she wont last longer even with a drip.

Her first trimester passed by and by the middle of her second trimester, she gradually liven up. Slowly chatting with Lavina and Lavian. Asking questions, taking a small walk throughout the neighborhood.

Slowly accepting this is her fate right now. That she needs to live. And that she's pregnant. Even if this baby doesn't have a father. Even if she doesn't know who fathered this baby, she need to safety give birth to it.

Her mindset changed and matured a little as she needed to consider her baby in it. She starts to plan for her and the baby's future. Thanking profusely the siblings for their help. She asked what she can do. She knew that they're not entitled to help her and she's afraid that she'll be dependent on them. And that's why she'll be forever grateful for them.

And she cannot swallowed the fact and the thought of freely living with them. That's not her style at all. That's not what she is. Even if she had nothing, at least she can do something like simple tasks right?

And so, whenever they are out working, she washes the dishes and sweeps the floor. Fold the clothes and throw the garbages.

Perhaps because of her mannerisms and her habit, she forgot that she's heavily pregnant. Even with an experience of months of being pregnant, she can't deny that she's careless and often hurt herself.

And so, by the middle of her third trimester. She got into an accident.

-----

Sirens of ambulance echoes throughout the road as it speedily makes its way to its destination. While in it is a heavily pregnant woman who's covered with blood. Weakly breathing in and out.

Hey pastel white colored maternity clothes are soaked with her own blood. It makes the scene more serious as bloody scent accompanies them along with a heavy aura.

A heavy aura of death.

They reach the hospital and quickly transported her into the ICU.

Trying to resuscitate her, the doctor tried to do a chest compressions. But to no avail, her vital signs looks bleak.

Beep….beep...….beep...….beeep....beeeeep....beep..

"We're losing her!"

Sweats are falling down from the face of the doctor on the sleeves of Shin Ah.

Left with one option, the doctor charges the defibrillator paddles. Places them on the chest of unmoving Shin Ah, whose cardiac monitor is showing a very rapid and inefficient heart rhythm.

"Clear!"

Then her back arches and her limp body lifts up off the bed with the shock along with her hair wet with sweats as she got a huge dose of electricity.

Still not responding, the doctor prepares for the second one and shouted.

"Clear!!"

Seconds pass and then the familiar, comforting green waveform appears on the monitor.

The doctor and the nurses all sigh in relief.
