The last few days were like the color grey to me. i had no recollection of visitors while i was packing, no friends, no parents, no aquaintances. i glance out my window at the night sky. the stars bright behind the thin clouds. i sigh at the quietness of it all. it's my last day here in my hometown and no one seems to remember or care. placing the last of my books into the large box, i secure every door before heading to bed.

...

bzzz. bzzz. bzzz. my cell next to me vibrates on my night stand and i reach for it.

" hey sweety. im sorry that we couldn't make it today either. have a safe trip tomorrow and call me when you get to your new house.

love you." the screen read.

My parents, being doctors, spend most of the time working and i rarely get to see them. tonight was no different.

Not being tired anymore, i start taking the boxes out to the car. once i finish, i get on and drive.

It takes me 8 hours to get to my new house. i pull in on the driveway and open the car door. as soon as i do the sweet fragrance of lavander wafts over me. my new home is secluded enough that the closest house from mine is a 20 minute walk away, and my yard leads to open wooded area.

- so much unpacking- i say to myself as i stretch my arms out in front of me. i start settling my stuff and making the house mine.

knock, knock, knock.

-who could it be?- i think to myself. i head to the front entrance and i study the young man standing there with a small tree still in its pot. a light blue aura surrounding him.

"Hello" i greet him kindly.

"Good mornin'. I'm your neighbor next door." he points to the barely seen chimney down the road.

" I'm Remington. this here is for you." he holds out the tree to me.

"nice to meet you. im layla." i take the pot in my arms and invite him in. " sorry for not offering you something to eat. but as you can tell, i just moved in." i laugh lightly. i place the tree on the counter and pull my auburn waves into a low ponytail.

" no worries, i just stopped by to introduce myself. im actually on my way to work." he points out the door at a red pickup truck.

" where do you work?" i ask him as i notice that the bed of the truck is full of different types of trees, bushes, and flowers.

" i have a small nursury in the town. i also do delivery and help plant them." he smiles. i notice that the aura around him is swirling inwards as he talks about a tree he had planted the other day for a Marryanne. " if you want to come by some time i can help you pick out a few flowers for your yard"

"thank you, i would love to." i lead him out and watch him as he gets on his truck and waves good-bye. Remington was a few inches taller than me. his black hair almost covered his light brown eyes. he wore black fitted jeans that were ripped at the knees. not as a fashion statement but from kneeling on the ground when he worked. he has a playful smile almost teasing. i was about to go back inside when i heard him call out.

" Layla. my friend will be by in a bit to say hi."

i nod and wave him goodbye. as he drove away.

i return to my chores for the day and after a few hours i had finished. i walked out to the front porch taking the small tree with me. it was a beautiful little thing with red-purple leaves and small white star shaped flowers. the scent that the stars produced was light and sweet. i placed it on a small bench where the sunlight could touch it.

" i wouldnt do that." said a voice behind me. i turn to find a man about 25ish. his arms were lean and toned, similar to those of Remington. he was as tall as him too. " its a rare breed and that belongs inside in your bedroom." he adds as he reaches down for it.

" why in my bedroom?" i ask curious.
