Jake was finally able to push his father off of him , he landed on the floor beside him,let out a big sigh and fell asleep , this was the reason why Jake hated alcohol, it brought out the very worst in people, his dad was already failing in the good father test but with alcohol he always became worse, 

Dusting the dirt from the floor off his body as he stood up, Jake opened the door and hoped in his heart for two things , 

One, that Betty would not be too mad at him for wasting her time, he had offered to give her a ride to school before all this nonsense with his father happened and now he knew that surely he had made her late. Obviously she would be mad but he hoped she wouldn't be too mad.

The second thing he hoped for was that she wouldn't notice the bruises that were sure to be on his face from earlier, he didn't want her to know about what happened .
