16 Ch 16: What you saw

Isaac marched straight on the carpet, apologizing profusely to Dylan and the Imam for making them wait. Maya watched as Isaac stood next to Dylan and she saw them share a joke; Isaac laughed enthusiastically before looking around at the guests that were seated in the garden.

She prayed that he wouldn't see her, and slouched into her chair slightly, realizing that he would probably spot the girls first as they were taller then she was. But to her relief, the wedding march began and everyone stood to their feet.

During the ceremony event, he did not look around again and instead kept his focus on the bride and groom; waiting for his cue to give the rings.

N.T: A Imam is an Islamic leadership position. It is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque and Muslim community among Sunni Muslims.

Finally, the ceremony was over, and the girls were delighted to blow bubbles at the happy couple as they made there way down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs. Williams.

She told Isabella that she was going for a walk and then disappeared out of view from everyone.

She sat down on a bench and take out a gum to chew; after chewing so quick and so hard that it made her choke and cough, she decided to stay there for a little longer, hoping that Isaac was engrossed in conversation with someone else and hadn't seen the girls yet.

She was lost in thought when suddenly he appeared a few feet from her. They stared at each other for a long moment before at last, she looked away. "I wasn't sure you'd come," he said finally. "I wasn't going to," she replied.

"Why's that?" "I knew you would probably be here," she said honestly. "But you came anyway," he said, and they both fell silent. He walked up to her and sat down. "What you saw," he began. "Wasn't what it seemed."

"It doesn't seem to matter anymore, does it?" She replied, and a hint of sadness stung her words. "Yes it does," he retorted. "Maya, she wanted me back but I told her that it was over and that I was with someone else."

"You couldn't do that over the phone?" Maya snapped back. "I don't expect you to understand," he replied. "But these last few months have been torture." "You could have called," she said softly.

"I did call! Maya, I tried calling you over and over and you never picked up. I went to your work but you had taken leave, and when I went to your apartment you weren't there…" Maya stared at the fountain at the edge of the garden but didn't reply so Isaac continued.

"If I had only known what this was all about we could have saved each other a lot of heartaches." Maya tried desperately to contain the emotions that welled up inside her, but to no avail.

She turned her head so that Isaac wouldn't see the tears that streamed down her face. "I've missed you, Maya," he continued, and she screwed up her face to prevent more tears from escaping.
