10 Ch 10: The girls won’t understand

"It's hardly halfway across the country, Isaac," she laughed. "But yes; I always wanted to move here, but I'll admit that at first I had my fears and at times I wondered if it wasn't all a big mistake." "And was it?" "Not at all," she smiled happily.

"Sure it was hard, but I have a great job doing what I always wanted to do, and the girls are doing well in their new school and have made lots of friends.

I think Isabella already found a boyfriend too, but I won't say anything; I prefer to let them come to me when they ready to tell me things." "And do they?"

"Always," she replied confidently. "They know they can tell me anything and I won't judge them; I will guide them if they need it, but I know my girls and they are pretty mature for their age." "They sure have grown up since I last saw them; what was it, about nine years ago?"

"It's been a long time," Maya agreed. "You should have visited more." "Well, a beautiful young woman once told me that following my dreams was important and that everything else came later."

"As you say, I was young back then. I didn't know what I was talking about; I mean, I can't imagine how my life would have been without those two." "Now you tell me," Isaac laughed, and Maya smiled.

"But in all seriousness, I think I have found what I've been looking for all my life." "Really? And what's that?" "Not 'what' but 'who', and she is sitting right in front of me," Isaac said, and his smile faded. Maya was speechless.

She had always had a soft spot for Isaac, and at a time when she and Keith had problems she had wished she could run away with Isaac. But she knew that, back then, he hadn't had any interest in her… or had he?

Isaac held the palm of his hand to her cheek, and then slowly he edged closer to her until their lips touched and he kissed her hungrily. "Stay with me tonight," he whispered on her lips. "We don't have to do anything, just stay with me."

"I can't," she replied softly. "The girls won't understand." "A little birdie tells me they will," he said with a mischievous smile.

"What are you talking about?" Maya asked suspiciously. "Don't worry," he replied. "I spoke to them…" "What? What did you say?" She panicked. "Relax," he said, taking her in his arms. "I just told them that I like you a lot and I asked them if that was okay."

"That's not fair," she replied. "You bought their adoration with little golden retrievers." Isaac laughed loudly and Samantha stirred in her sleep. "Well," he smiled. "That wasn't my intention, but I guess it didn't hurt." Maya eyed him suspiciously, but he explained.
