Side Chapter - Chase Part 2

The sound of someone running greeted my ears. Instinctually I backed off a bit as I turned around to see who it was. Only to find nothing was there. [I must be aging faster than I thought, hearing things at my age. I should probably see a psychiatrist or something like that.] checking my watch once again, I noticed something was very off. Due to the moonlight, it seemed to reflect the visage of a man hiding behind a wall. [I'm not going insane, am I?] "Hey! Is anyone there?" I called out. The figure on the watch seemed to flinch, before giving a smile.

11:03 P.M.

[Damn it! How did he see me!? No matter, I can still make this work. I can still make this work! There is no time for hesitation! If I want this to work I need to approach this with absolute confidence.] thought the young man with black hair.

——————

"I'm sorry for tailing you sir." Muttered the man softly.

"What do you want?" I asked impatiently, still a bit apprehensive.

"Y-you see, I'm new around here, just moved in because of work. And, umm well, I got lost. You seemed to know a way out of here, and I didn't really want to bother you. So I followed."

"I can understand that, but why did you smile when I called you out?" I asked crossing my arms.

He gave another smile as he answered, "It made me happy that you finally noticed me, Y-you see I have a hard time talking to others."

[He doesn't seem to be a bad person, even so, I'll make sure to keep my guard up in case he tries something.] Sighing I motioned over to him to follow as his eyes lit up with joy.

——————

[It worked! Now all I need to wait for is an opportunity to strike, right when he isn't looking.]

——————

Thus, the two of us began to walk down the silent road.

Every so often the man would rub his gloveless hands, it made sense after all. For someone new to the city, the cold must feel so much worse. [Pass on the kindness, huh?]

"Hey you." I said as I stopped to look at him.

"Y-yeah?" He said, trying to avoid eye contact.

[He really is extremely shy.] "Here, take my gloves." I told him as I took off my black gloves and handed them to him.

"O-oh, t-thank you!"

"Don't mention it, just remember to pass on the kindness someday."

"I will!" He said as he put them on quickly.

——————

[I'll pass it right back to you. I swear] thought the man as he smiled to himself.

——————

"A-Also, why are you out on such a cold night?" He asked.

"I work nearby at a club, though I only really serve drinks."

"I-I see."

——————

After a bit of small talk, silence returned to their walk. And as the two continued walking the man with black hair suddenly asked. "E-excuse me, but do you have the time?" He asked, looking very restless.

"Of course, just give me a second." I told him as I turned to look at my watch. "It's Eleven-"

The sound of a sudden thud echoed throughout the road. Laughter sounded, startling the nearby animals.

—————

"Oh! You don't know how long I've waited for this moment! This feeling of joy! The euphoria of getting the opportunity!" He shouted as his smile twisted and eyes shook wildly.

Gore begins:

He began to beat the man with red hair senseless, snaps sounding as his ribs began to break.

"W-why are you doing this." The man coughed.

"There is no reason! There is no reason. In fact! There is no reason for anything really!" He laughed. "Carving! Cutting! Hacking away into your still moving body! That's a reason right there!"

"Please, if you stop now, I still might live." He said as his white scarf lay next to him.

"Stop? Oh no! No, no, no, no, no! The fun is only just beginning after all!" He said, revealing a dull knife from under his coat. "The time! Time is irrelevant now is it? No, every second right now is more important than every other second of your existence. Watch as seconds turn to minutes, minutes to hours!"

Large, yet thin cuts began spreading over his body as blood began to flow slowly, yet freely out. His coat still covering him as his legs twisted in pain. Muffled screams barely audible through the now red scarf. Tears running down his face as the man continued striking and cutting.

"Pay it forward, you said. As thanks for the gloves, I promise you that you shall not see anymore pain, I'll see to it that the suffering of life is cast away from your vision."

The knife slowly made its way through his hazel eyes, so slow was it in fact that it seemed as though it was attempting to go through drying cement. But as the short, young man suddenly stopped moving his assailant stopped. The adrenaline running through his body had stopped, and as he looked to the disfigured body under him, a revolting feeling came over him.

"I-I'm sorry. I'm so sorry! What's wrong with me!" He yelled as he regurgitated onto the corpse. [No, it's too late, I can't turn back now. That's right, I can't. There is no longer any time to feel guilty, I need to make my escape now!]

Standing up, he picked up a broken watch, putting it in his coat pocket along with the black gloves. He turned to look upwards to the moon as he thought [I'll truly pay it forward now, as thanks for opening my eyes, I swear that no other person who crosses paths with me will have a more humane exit than you. Thank you for the joy and excitement you allowed me feel this night.]

—————

Under a waterfall where blood flowed, sat a little girl with red eyes and blonde hair. "I did keep my promise, didn't I?" She asked as she turned to look at a corpse next to her, untouched since that day. "You, know ever since then, I've improved in ways unimaginable, so allow me to show you as I make a new story in this world.
