Devil’s guidance

"Uncle please stay with me!" Yelled a little girl with platinum hair and blue eyes.

On the ground lied an old looking man slowly dying. "I'm sorry Mary, I won't be able to see you grow up. However, I promise you that as long as you're alive I'll live with you. Just look on the back of your hand and I'll be there to support you, Devils Advocate: Fallen angel." His last words were said in a whisper, yet heavy.

"NOOOO! Please uncle please don't leave me!" She cried out while reaching for his face. It was all in vain however. On her hand was a symbol of small pair of wings. Pulling her hand close to her a fountain of tears were shed under the light of a full moon.

2 hours earlier

"I think I last saw my uncle here..." said a little girl while walking down an alleyway in between an abandoned apartment and coffee shop. Now it is worth mentioning that she had already walked down this alleyway twice before without finding him. "Maybe..."

From behind her a voice spoke up, "You know if I wasn't here the first 2 times I wouldn't be here the third time."

"Uncle!" Shouted the girl happily.

"Hello Mary, could you please swi-"

"No! I-I mean I can't, you see I've stopped her from coming out forever uncle!"

"Forever huh?" He asked.

"Yes, well hopefully forever."

"Why do you say that?"

"Well, well, it's because this is my body! She's never given me a chance to even make my own story! And to top it all off she's a despicable murderer!" Shouted the little girl.

"You do realize that I've killed hundreds, if not thousands, more than her."

"I do uncle, but without you, I'd never have even gotten the chance to come out from that lonely meadow. So thank you for everything uncle!"

"So that explains why she's so shy all the time, for the past 8 years other than me, she's had no human interaction. It's surprising that she can still think clearly, years of being isolated from reality. Talking to herself for hours maybe even days on end. However, the fact that her prison was a meadow means her mind has yet to fully collapse. Truly interesting on how such a person could live like that while being pressured by a murderer. Plus it's likely she was killed in their confrontation in the forest of illusion. Although death in the soul is impossible pain still exists, in fact it's even amplified because of there being no outside force like nen to lessen the pain. In a way it's a miracle she can still even exist as a pure little girl." thought her uncle. "Well first things first, did the other Mary finish her job?"

Looking down at her hands she clenched them into fists as she muttered with disdain, "she did, and she did too much, She, she killed a little boy. Uncle he couldn't even have been more than 2 years older than me, and she, she killed him!"

"I see, well then now that you've confirmed her job's completion here." He said while tossing her a bag filled with money.

"I don't want her money! I-I just don't feel comfortable with using it after she killed a little boy for it." She said, giving him the bag back.

"Well if you don't want it then how about I take you for a treat, hmm?"

"T-thank you uncle!"

The time was 8:30 at night, and two people could be seen walking out of a café.

"Uncle, will we really have to say goodbye?" Said a little girl with watery eyes and a few cake crumbs still on her lips.

"Don't worry Mary, as long as you become a hunter we'll be able to meet again." Smiled the man.

"I-I promise you that I will become a hunter uncle!"

As he patted her head a his smile disappeared, "I'll be holding you accountable to that promise.

8 P.M.

A boy could be seen walking down a road while covered in blood, it dripped endlessly from the small holes that covered his body, his eyes only looked forward as he dropped the corpse of a little girl covered with blood herself. "This just won't do, I'm sorry sister. It's going to take me a bit longer to find a doll that would be acceptable for you."

He continued walking forward as a dying woman crawled to the corpse of the little girl. "Please forgive me my baby, I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." Before collapsing on the corpse she muttered, "I've failed as a mother."

Meanwhile the boy kept walking as he hummed. The trail of corpses continued to grow the more he walked. Thirty minutes later he came across a sight that made him smile, it was a living doll, she had platinum hair and beautiful blue eyes. She was talking to an middle aged looking man. "Sister I've finally found the one! A perfect doll just for you.

————

"We're being watched, but what's watching us isn't human, nor does it feel like an animal, it's something far more sinister." He thought to himself as his smile disappeared completely. "Mary stand back."

"From what uncle?" Asked Mary.

A little boy ran up to them while waving his hand, "I've been looking for you! Now please come with me so I can give you to my sister!"

"You seem to be quite the fool, why would anyone want to go anywhere with a demon?" Asked Mary's uncle.

The boy stopped in his tracks, "That's a good question, but I'm not a demon, I'm Tomino!"

His bloody body started to bleed even more as Mary's uncle began to bleed as well.

"Nen?" He thought. "Well then, Devil's advocate: Hell fire!" "Now let me ask you something, boy, you aren't human are you?"

"What do you mean? Of course I'm human." Tomino replied before his body burst into flames.

"I'm glad you lied, now we won't have to fight. Farewell, little boy."

From the flames a voice sounded, "I'm not sure why you're leaving, but you see sir I'm going to need your doll!"

His burned skin was falling off his body as all that was left visible was his tissue.

"W-What are you!?" Yelled Mary as she began to vomit from fear and disgust.

"Do you really need to ask again? I'm Tomino!" A fiery red nen covered what was left of his body, "Avici: mountain of needles."

The needles that had been pricking his skin, now tissue, and Mary's uncle's skin were now visible as they buried themselves deep within the two.

"God damnit! This hurts!" Screamed Mary's uncle.

Despite the pain he charged to the boy before charging his fist with nen, "Ko!" As the fist connected with the boy's face he noticed something strange. The boy had already died, his soul was already supposed to be in Hell.

"Hahaha! I can't just die and leave my sister behind sir!" Said Tomino despite his skull being smashed with bone fragments piercing his brain and tissue. His lifeless eyes were hanging down from his face.

"Very well then I'll just have to destroy you entirely now won't I?" Asked Mary's uncle.

For 20 minutes Tomino's body was continuously destroyed yet he kept laughing. Mary's uncle was slowly getting weaker as he lost more and more blood due to the needles.

He turned to look at Mary and whispered "I'm sorry." Turning back to Tomino he activated his strongest ability to rid the world of the demon that was Tomino. "Devils advocate: ruler of the devils!"

His punches steadily grew stronger and faster. The ground beneath the mush that was Tomino was beginning to crack. Yet his laugh still remained.

"You can't kill me! My sister still needs her doll!"

"Let me ask you one more thing, did your sister ever ask for a doll? I can't imagine she'd want anything from a demon."

It was then that a sudden realization hit him she only wanted him to leave for good. In a maniacal laughter tears formed on what was left of his face, and laughed his last breath away.

While panting and bleeding Mary's uncle turned to her with a smile "Well I guess we won't be seeing each other after you become a hunter after all, I had intended to give you this as a congratulatory gift, but it seems like now would be the best time to give you him." He pulled out a golden teddy bear. "Seeing as you've taken control of your body today could be called your birthday, so then happy birthday my sweet little Mary!"

Taking the teddy bear tears streamed down her eyes. "What do you mean? Can't you just cancel the ability?"

"I can't Mary, in exchange for power the devil demands a sacrifice. However I still have time so let me impart some of my knowledge with you Mary."

The two sat together in the moonlight as he told her stories of his life and of the world.

you grow up. However, in the end, all good things must come to an end

"Mary whatever you do, promise me that you will enjoy the life you have been given. With me the life the other Mary lived dies with me. Make your own name known to the world, make friends. Because then I'll know I didn't die in vain."

"Thank you uncle! Even if the other me didn't see you as one Thank you! For everything." Hearing a deep breath she began to panic, "Uncle please stay with me!" Yelled a little girl with platinum hair and blue eyes.

On the ground lied an old looking man slowly dying. "I'm sorry Mary, I won't be able to see you grow up. However, I promise you that as long as you're alive I'll live with you. Just look on the back of your left hand and I'll be there to support you, Devils Advocate: Fallen angel." His last words were said in a whisper, yet they were heard clearly.

"NOOOO! Please uncle please don't leave me!" She cried out while reaching for his face. It was all in vain however. On her hand was a symbol of small pair of wings. Pulling her left hand close to her a fountain of tears were shed under the light of a full moon.

Remember Mary, when the moon falls, the sun rises. -Blake Leopard.

Originally Bloody Mary was going to take over Tomino’s body and use him as a weapon, but for the sake of the rest of the story I scrapped the idea with the re-write. Despite re writing this around 5 times I couldn’t come up with much so I decided to use her uncle. So if it reads weirdly that’s why, a worse chapter for a better story. Also just one more chapter before the hunter exam arc, it’ll be short though.
