14 Battle of the mind - Part 3 Soul Sisters

Outside Mary's mind 3 days had passed.

"So tell me, why were you so confident in your student?" Asked Zecht.

"Well, you already know this Zecht, but with my nen ability I take hold of the person's soul. However, she was different. Mary has two souls within her body. It's the reason why she was able to learn nen so quickly. Not only is she naturally talented, but she has the life force of two souls, two people."

"I don't understand, how can her body stand the strain of having two souls?"

"Zecht, despite your most powerful illusion attacking the soul of the target you don't know much about them do you?"

"Well, please enlighten me."

"One of the souls, we'll call it the main one, is suppressing the other. Naturally this wouldn't be a problem, however the soul taking dominance isn't the original Mary. Over time the original Mary's soul will be destroyed, and with it the body."

"I see, but I still don't understand where my illusion fits into all of this."

"Zecht, are you familiar with the term 'soul binding?'"

"While I am not, it seems pretty obvious."

"You're right about that, the binding between two souls. It's normally impossible, but with a medium it is possible."

"So then you plan on using my illusion as the medium?"

"That's what I plan, but let's see what my little student does. If she is not able to do this by herself she isn't worthy of being called my disciple."

—————

In a collapsing world within her mind. Mary needed to find the voice, to trap it. She knew, however that it would not be easy. An opponent that can use anything you imagine against you, an opponent that can use your own mind as ammunition for a never ending Hell.

"Hey voice, I want to ask you something," Said Mary, "what's the color of a soul?"

From all around her she heard a voice. "Normally souls are a white or gray. Yours, however, is a sickly black with tints of red. While Mary's is a pure white."

"Mary's soul? What do you mean? I'M Mary."

"You are Mary and yet are not. Your soul merely took possession of the original's body. It's ridiculous in the sense that in doing so you saved her life."

"So tell me more about this other 'Mary' within me."

"What is there to tell you? You've both lived the same life haven't you? Just because there lies another soul within her body doesn't mean she's lived a different life. All that's different is how she sees life. The original Mary, such a pure child, filled with naivety unlike the stain of a person you are. In fact, believe it or not she was thankful to your 'mother.'"

"That's preposterous she was a devil in human flesh."

"Not that I don't agree with you, but I find it ironic that a devil such as yourself is disgusted by another of your kind."

Surprised by his words she said. "Me? A devil? All I am is a person who loves playing with her toys."

With a sigh the voice told her, "Regardless of what you say I'm positive even your teacher would say the same. What's even more of a shame is even if you beat me you'll eventually die, the body can't handle two souls, much less the original being suppressed by an outsider."

"I've realized something, voice, my favorite toy was that first girl I played with. I had so much fun, you know why? The thrill of being hunted after a game! It was extremely stressful, every time I saw a police officer I couldn't help but think if they somehow knew. You are no different, other than you already know. You are a hunter for justice, in other words. You are the key for the original Mary, aren't you? However you've made one fatal mistake, this is MY body now and for the sake of it I'll be using you as a passageway or so to speak to address my soul problems."

The collapsing world turned dark. Waterfalls of blood and a lake of corpses surrounded her, but she continued forwards and what she saw filled her with disgust. In front of her lay a little girl with blue eyes and silver hair. Her surroundings were a bright meadow full of flowers. The "other" Mary or so to speak was playing with a few wooden toys and a teddy bear. "Mr. bear how are you?" She said to herself. In a deeper voice she responded "I'm not bad Mary, but how are you?" In her normal voice she turned to look at the Mary in front of her and said. "I'm lonely, very lonely."

It was a strange scene, two little girls addressing one another with the same facial structure, they were one but two.

(A/N from here on out the killer Mary will be addressed as Bloody Mary, and the original will be addressed as Mary)

"Do you know who I am?" Asked Bloody Mary

"Yes, you're the one the voice warned me about, the one who killed mamma." Answered Mary

"It's good that you know that, now listen up, as it stands neither of us can win so let's make a deal." Bloody Mary told her.

"I'm not so sure about that sis, I-I'm happy where I am!" Mary said.

"Shut up and listen, here's the deal, we'll both share this body as separate people. Earlier you said you were lonely so here's your chance to make a few REAL friends."

"Are you saying Mr. Bear isn't real? And the voice told me not to be deceived by you, you murderer!" Mary said with tears in her eyes.

"Look, do I really seem like someone who'd want to hurt you?" Bloody Mary said while drying up her "sister's" tears.

"No you don't, so please! Tell me what I need to do to make some friends!"

"Ok, all you need to do is tell me where the voice is." Bloody Mary said while giving her a bright smile.

"Mhm. He's right here." She said while raising a toy soldier.

"Great! Now give it to me."

"No! He said if I give it to you Mr. Bear will be destroyed!" Said Mary.

Suddenly all around her the toys began to grow, and as one they all went and attacked Bloody Mary. With a huge handicap for Bloody Mary, the final fight of the mind began.
