8 Chapter-8 The Church Of Light

A couple days later, Alex and Max returned to the town from Gary's place. They had stayed there and trained for a bit, and were now ready for battle with the Priest. Alex had refined his abilities and Max could now briefly use Light Aura, but still had to train in that regard. Though he was not nearly as strong as Alex, Max was still quite strong, and could easily take down a deacon or two. Alex was filled with the urge to kill Priest Richard, as he now finally had enough strength to accomplish this. For 4 years, he had been awaiting this day, the day when he could kill the Priest of the Church of Light, and shatter their influence among his townsfolk. Today would be the day when Alex would finally be able to start taking his revenge, and uprooting the Church of Light, once and for all.

Alex headed towards the center of the city, where the large Cathedral was present. These were the headquarters of the Church of Light in the town, which also meant that this was where the Priest resided. From the outside, the building was rather large and impressive, but from the inside, it was filled with useless trash like the Deacons and the Priest, who do nothing but pollute the town with their presence.

Alex had calculated that at this time, the Church would be having a dozen servants and 4 Deacons, considering that he had killed the other two. Other than those, their would be the Priest, who was the main problem. The Priest would be in his separate chambers while the Deacons and the servants would be roaming around the Church. Alex's main goal was to first get rid of the Deacons, and send the servants away as sneakily as possible, and then kill the Priest.

Alex had disguised himself as one of the two dead Deacons and Max as a young servant. Alex had his face covered with a cloak, so that people couldn't catch him being an impostor. He had planned to get into the Church unnoticed, which would save him a lot of trouble.

As it was about to be evening, and the Church was now empty, other than the people working in it. As Alex and Max saw that it was time to enter, they went inside the Church. As the pair entered the Church, they saw two Deacons at the gates, which was not something that they had expected. If they recognized either of them, especially Alex (considering that bringing in a new servant would e reasonable and Alex could pass Max off as a new servant he hired) it would be game over. The old and greasy gates closed, and Alex breathed a sigh of relief. At least the people outside wouldn't get to see the ruckus caused here.

One of the Deacons, who completely ignored Alex and Max walked right in front of Alex, who saw this as an easy opportunity to get rid of him. He motioned his hand towards the Deacon's neck, signalling a sharp, pointed shard of Darkness elemental energy to go there. Instantly, the shard pierced through the Deacon's neck, killing him. As the Deacon fell to the ground, the other one saw him die. As he was looking at his dead comrade, Max decided that this was the right time, as he launched himself towards the unsuspecting Deacon, stabbing him with a knife, channeling it with Light elemental energy. Alex had given Max the knife, as he wasn't quite adept at using his own body as a medium of channeling energy and punching or stabbing people with his own hands. It was also easier to use an object, or rather, a weapon and channel it with energy to fight.

As the second Deacon fell to his death, Alex moved forward hastily, not wanting to attract any unwanted attention. Two Deacons were dead already, without anyone knowing their presence, and if things were to keep going like this, Alex would be able to get to the Priest without wasting any of his energy on useless folks such as the Deacons. As Alex moved forward, Max told the servants that they were free, and were no longer servants of the Church. As the servants rejoiced because of their newfound freedom, Max also followed Alex, who was now entering the room where all the other Deacons would be gathered. As Alex was in front of the door, he motioned Max to stay ready with his knife, and to stand at the other side of the door from him, which Max did.

Alex slightly knocked on the door, and stood at one side of the door, looking at Max, and indirectly told him to kill the Deacon as soon as he arrived. A couple seconds later, the doors opened, and a Deacon walked out. Max instantly channeled Light elemental energy through it, and stabbed the Deacon. As the Deacon fell, Max felt a little sad for what he had done, but Alex, with a blank stare on his eyes, went into the room, surprised to find that the Deacon who should have been there was not present. Immediately, Alex knew that something was fishy.

The Deacon must have found out about Alex and Max, as Alex clearly heard two sets of footsteps inside the room before he knocked the door, knowing for sure that there were two people inside the room. Alex decided to look for any secret passages inside the small room, and found a bookshelf with unusually neatly arranged books on one particular rack. He was almost certain that this triggered a certain mechanism, which opened up to a secret room of sorts. Alex started pressing various sections of that row of the bookshelf, and as soon as he pressed the books on the right corner, he saw the books move backwards, leading the drawers below the mirror on its left to collapse into a dimly lit staircase, which led to some secret underground base of the Church. Alex decided to go inside, and Max also tagged along.

Alex didn't want to waste his strength on useless Deacons, so he decided that he wouldn't intervene until necessary, and told Max to handle this Deacon. Max was nervous, but also brimming with adrenaline; this would be his first real fight, after all!
