1 An Unsual Day

A hundred years ago, there lived a legendary warrior, whose blade cut through thousands of foes. His fighting style was like no other, it was described as a dance of death. The legendary warrior fought in many battles, defending his home, the land of Daun. There was no one who could defeat him but in the end, he was still human. The rising kingdom of Dhusk revolutionized itself with the use of explosives and weapons powered with gunpowder. They massacred everybody along their path. Eventually, Daun had to fight them in order to protect their homeland, but they were overpowered and defeated. In a last minute attempt, the legendary warrior sacrificed himself to save his pregnant wife and the remaining survivors. After they managed to escape, the kingdom of Dhusk took over their home. Soon the wife gave birth to a baby boy in which the bloodline continued. Yes, the bloodline still flows to this day, seeking revenge, waiting for the chosen one to rise up and save their homeland, or so they thought. It has been thousands of years now and no one has been chosen yet. Eventually the people who were clinging to this false hope let go and gave up on the legend.

I close the book and put it back on the shelf.

Well that was an interesting read. I never knew this existed, well I should visit the library more often. The year is 20XX and by the looks of it, the legend was already forgotten. If I look it up on the web the only thing that comes up is the book, and it's even labeled as "historical-fiction." Well it seemed to unreal in my opinion. I came here looking for job applications and yet here I am, reading fantasy books. I just turned 19 and I am currently unemployed, single, and average in every way you could think of. I moved into the city last year to find work but I keep getting rejected at job interviews. Well I didn't go to college and had average grades when I was in high school but at least I'm a graduate. My life has been always miserable, I am drowning in debts from my close uncle who lives nearby my apartment. And I've only worked as a store clerk for 4 months, I got fired of course due to my tardiness but in my defense, I was working 2 jobs at that time so I had no sleep at all.

Everyday it's always the same routine. I wake up, eat breakfast, take a bath, go out to find some jobs, find nothing, walk back home, eat dinner, sleep and repeat. It has always been my lifestyle ever since I moved here and it's been a year now and honestly, I am used to it. I am used to my usual routine, usual day, usual life, but on this particular day, it was different. After I finished reading I walked back home. I take the usual route but it was blocked due to construction. So I took a longer detour through the main road. My apartment complex was still 9 blocks away and I was already tired but soon that tiredness went away. In the middle of a road a child was running away from his mother and then a truck was speeding by. The child stopped in the middle of the road and then my heart pumped. The truck was about to hit the child and my body suddenly jumped. Why? Why is my body moving on it's own? Ah, I know, it's because I'm tired of this life. All my life I've never done anything good, I've always failed. But seeing that child made my blood rush, the adrenaline filled my body and before I can realize, I jumped and pushed the child away. But before I can react, a blinding light filled my sight. And it felt as if the world slowed down, I can hear the cries of other people, the crying child, the blasting horn of the truck, and then it went silent. The blinding light then became pitch black.

[...]

Am I dead? No, I can hear sirens, emergency response perhaps? Is the child okay? I want to open my eyes but I can't. I can hear voices but can't make out what they're saying. Ah, I managed to open my eyes. My vision is still blurry but I see four figures surrounding me, they must be the paramedics. Hmm? Am I on a stretcher? I still can't see clearly, ah, they noticed that I'm awake. Looks like they're asking questions but I don't understand a thing. I look to my side and suddenly my vision cleared a bit, it was the child. The mother was hugging the child as they both cried, thank goodness he was safe. Then my eyes felt heavy so I closed them and suddenly I felt tired. After reassuring that the child was safe it looks like my body relaxed. I feel no pain whatsoever in fact I feel tired. I know I shouldn't fall asleep but I can't resist. I can hear faint shouts. They're trying to wake me up but I won't. I finally succumbed to the feeling and slowly my consciousness went away.

[...]

Suddenly I woke up. My head hurts and my body still aches but I remember the incident. I look around and noticed I was in a hospital, well shit, I can barely pay my debt and rent now I have hospital bills to pay. Then a door opens.

"Hey, you, you're finally awake."

The man looked like he was in his 50's and he was wearing a lab gown and a stethoscope around his neck, obviously he is a doctor. I asked him how long was I asleep and he replied as well as explaining what happened. After I rescued the child, the paramedics responded immediately after a bystander called. Fortunately, the trucked stopped as it hit me and I didn't get ran over but I was still in a serious condition because the impact broke some of my ribs and both of my legs, with the left leg having serious lacerations from broken glass. The driver was drunk and soon after was taken to the police for investigation and the mother of the child said she would pay my bills. I was losing a lot of blood due to the wound and I needed a transfusion but sadly, my family nor my uncle came to help me. My blood type was B, and they didn't have any blood supply that day so they needed a donor quickly but someone came up to volunteer. I didn't get any information regarding that person, all I know was she was a girl about my same age and she said her name was Anteria.

Then the doctor said I needed some rest and left the room. I pull over the blanket covering my body and sure enough my legs were broken. There was also a bandage around my chest area and some painkillers on the nightstand to my right. Then the door opened again and the person that came in was unexpected, it was the mother and her child. She gave her thanks as well as the little boy who gave me a flower. She explained that the boy and her got in an argument regarding about a toy and so he ran off and that's when I saved him. They couldn't stop thanking me and it was getting me flustered a little bit. She then said that she's going to take care of the medical bills in which I insisted that I would pay but she said her husband already did. As they were about to leave the room she said something that bothered me.

"Oh, and I'm sorry..."

She looked gloomy as she said those words. They then left. Sorry? I really don't mind it to be honest, my life up to this moment was nothing special, I never cared for it until I realize what it feels like when you're on the verge of dying. I let out a sigh and proceeded to lay down, I have so many thought spinning in my head right now. But I paid no attention to them as I slowly drifted towards slumber.

Then I heard a loud noise. My body jolted as I looked around what caused that noise. A window was open and it was making a loud banging noise due to the wind. So I stood up and closed it and went back to bed. Wait, did I just stand? I can feel my legs again, and the heavy feeling on my chest is gone. What the hell is going on? Am I dreaming? I looked at the clock and it was around 2:00 am. I must be dreaming, it's impossible for broken bones to be healed this quick. But as I was about to lay down the door burst open. Three armed men wearing ski masks came up to my room pointing guns towards me. They repeatedly shouted to put my hands in the air and not move. One of them grabbed me while another was holding the door open. They told me to keep walking but then my IV stand got snagged. I still have my IV tube on me so I grabbed the stand and proceeded to walk out. Suddenly one of the men shouted to let go of the weapon. Huh? Are they that afraid of me? What can I do with an IV stand against three guns. Then all of them started pointing their guns towards me shouting I let go.

"What are you talking about? I promise I won't try to do something."

I was about to continue talking when I looked at my hand and realize I was holding a spear. When did that happen, wait no, how did that happen?

"Let go of it or else I'll paint the wall with your brain!" One of the men said as he put the barrel of his pistol towards my forehead. This must be a side effect from the painkillers but I decided to play along with this.

"Huh? You don't have the guts to do it." I replied. He was then agitated and as he was about to open his mouth I kicked his legs and swung the spear towards him. I underestimated this thing, it's way heavier than it looks. The other two started shooting but I managed to run. I was going down the corridor and they tailed behind me soon after. They started shooting and the adrenaline inside me was rushing. I stopped and turned around to throw the spear at one of them but as soon as I let go of it, the spear transformed back into the IV stand. The crook then accidentally shot the bag of fluids and slipped. I immediately turn around and started running again as the last guy was still chasing me. I managed to take a lead and when I was about to turn the corner I stopped.

"So the IV stand was the spear? How?" I said to myself. If I think about it, most likely, anything I touch, turns into a weapon. I peaked at the wall and the man was closing in the corner. I was scouting the corridor for anything I can use but the man was already here. I managed to dodge his shot and pushed him against the wall. Good thing this guy was smaller than me.

"Stay still you brat!" The man from earlier shouted. I turned around and saw him charging towards me, so I let go of the smaller man and he hit him instead. While both of them were on the ground I took this opportunity and grabbed one of their guns on the floor and started to point it at them. The bigger man reached for his own but as he was about to, I shot him with no hesitation. The smaller man then begged for mercy but soon after I shot him too. Tired from this ordeal I calmed myself down as the adrenaline went away. But then it hit me as I saw the blood on the floor, this was not a dream. I just killed 3 people, even if it was self defense, it was pretty brutal.

"Is anyone hurt?"

I heard a shout from the distance. It looks like the police already arrived.

"Everyone, stay calm! The suspect is still on the loose. I repeat the suspect is still on the loose. Suspect is a 19 year old male, 182 cm, is wearing a patient's gown."

I'm...the suspect?
