Truth

I woke up again feeling thirsty and my head pounding hard. I got up from the bed and went down the kitchen immediately to have a drink. I think it's just five in the morning, I can see the sunlight peeking through the horizon. After drinking at least three glasses of water, my thirst won't ease away. I drunk up and consumed the water straight from the pitcher, and still no relief. My throat felt like burning. I'm pissed already of what to do. I looked on the fridge for any food, and lucky me, nothing to eat. I remembered I forgot to go to the store yesterday. I changed my clothes fast with my favorite hooded jacket and a pair of jeans, and decided to finally see again the outside world, buy something to eat and find cure to my thirst, maybe the drugstore can help me.

I walked first to the nearest drugstore and asked for over-the-counter drugs suitable for my throat problem. The pharmacist suggested me to drink lots of fluids and gave me lozenges. I took in immediately the lozenges and then went to the convenient store across. I came in the store and got a coffee and a ham sandwich. But I noticed my throat is not getting any better, useless lozenges! I drunk up straight the coffee and proceed to the counter.

"Three dollars and sixty cents," the clerk said.

I brought out my purse and took one five dollar. Then an alluring scent caught my attention... I looked around like a madman.

"Ouch, eh it's ok. Papercut again," the clerk lady said holding her right forefinger slowly bleeding.

It's weird because I'm salivating and enjoying the sight of the blood. She got a plaster and covered the cut. I looked away ashamed of how I just felt.

"Look mommy, is she alive," the kid exclaimed who's next to me held by her mother.

"Hi there honey, you look pale. Are you sick? You might need to see a doctor." The mother added maybe out of concern and reached out her hands to me. I immediately stepped back and avoid it.

"Ah no no, I'm fine. Just lack of sleep. No problem at all." I said as I raised my hands in denial and walked out the store in a hurry.

I escaped fast out of that awkward situation and find my way back home without stopping, thinking of the recent things that happened to me. Then I realized I'm already in front of my house, a suspicious looking man peeking by the window. I shouted at the man, "Who are you looking for?" He looks to be in his forties and got the vibe of seen him before.

"I just came to my destination," the man paused to smile, "...Sayu."

My eyes almost get out from their sockets to my surprise. Mixed of excitement and doubt run through my body. I don't know how did this man knew my name and what he came here for. I didn't expect anyone to come, I don't even know any of my relatives since my parents didn't tell me either.

He could be looking for some other Sayu. "I'm sorry mister but I do not know you." I asked in a raspy cracked voice. This thirst is killing me.

Without waiting for the man to answer, I excuse myself and get inside the house straight to the kitchen.

"You really have been feeling thirsty."

That's a normal thing, you just turned eighteen." I was startled to see the man appeared behind me.

"Ok mister, can you wait for me in the living room and I'll also get you something to drink." I'm still catching my breath.

I saw the man walked to the living room and sat on the couch. I brought two glasses of water and offered one to the man. I immediately drunk up mine. It really felt uncomfortable like I just want to reap off my neck.

I saw the man bring out a pocket knife and placed it on top of the coffee table. He drunk up his glass of water too and...

... made a cut on his palm. His blood gushed and pour it onto the crystal clear glass. I remember that feeling I had at the convenience store.

"Wha... what are you doing? Don't hurt yourself." I stood up in disbelief and almost stumble myself. I can't believe it, I'm shock of what he's doing in front of me but on the other hand I like the sight. No, no, what's happening to me?

"Here, drink it up. You only need this to ease your thirst." The man raised the half-filled glass with his blood on it.

After hearing the man's offer, all my doubts fade away. Without any words to say, I grabbed the glass and drunk up the cure to my thirst. How could I easily trust a stranger. But only he seems to understand what I'm been going through.

This red fluid taste unbelievably sweet and trickle down my burning throat.

At the last drop of blood, the only thing I felt was satisfaction, relief. I can't comprehend and compare it to anything in this world, and I'm seeing red with my eyes closed. I slowly opened my eyes and landed at sight of the man in front of me. He seems surprised. I can see in his eyes so he immediately looked down and got some bandage for his hand. I don't know why, but thanks to him...

"Are you feeling well now?"

"Yeah, it seems." I still felt hesitated to learn things I didn't know from this man.

"What's all these things about?" I am confused.

"You'll soon find and accept everything. First you have to know..."

...you're a vampire Princess."
