11 Walls on all Sides

I didn't say anything as he leaned back up and let himself out of my dwelling.

I carefully got up and put the two glasses into the sink.

Shit, I thought. I braced myself against the sink trying to calm myself down. This was getting ridiculous. I had the Nephilese, Treminson, and the Elders all watching my every move.

I didn't even know what I was doing, other than trying to stay alive now. If I couldn't keep up this facade on all fronts, it'd be over. I didn't even understand the entirty of what was going on. I knew I needed to talk to Nephilim.

I just needed the truth. No half-truths, not a partial understanding. But my station at each of these entities was far too low. I didn't have enough trust to any of them to get the information I really wanted to know.

I didn't know anyone in the city I could trust, or any in the Nephilese I could trust in admitting any of this to. I wasn't an assassin anymore. I had opened the floodgates to my emotions I had long suppressed and I couldn't figure out how to put them back in check.

I couldn't just sit in here. I was far beyond the ability to sit still in my dwelling to mull things over.

I changed into my simple black sundress went out and jumped rooftop to rooftop until I made it to the wall. I gauged the distance from the closest roof to the wall. It was really far, but I wanted that challenge, it was measureable.

I backed up as far on the roof as I could, ran and jumped. Reaching, the tips of my fingers gripped the wall and I yanked myself up.

The wall. It had been around for well over a millenia. Still standing. It had last several times, a solid defense in many wars, the only true remaining wonder in the world. It had age to it; the stairs so slick it could only be considered a slide now. Rope ladders were dropped from above to climb up, and then they'd hoist it up to prevent trouble makers from causing a ruckus.

It felt amazing up this high, gazing down both sides of the wall. The city felt both bigger and smaller from here. The building's showing the obvious age from the belt built to the old, one story cottages to the story or higher multi-homes. I could see the crops in the farming district to the smoke wafting in the butchers of the market. The other side had more green than I thought it would. It is said it used to be rich in orange sands with sparatic green, and now it transformed into a beautiful array of trees, forests, and a glacier tipped mountain.

I sat a while in the silence admiring the view of the city and landscape, furthest opposites of each other in the tranquil silence when curfew hit. Steadily becoming dark, and the only light from above in the clear skies, watching twinkling stars and a bright orange moon. Only as this nightly hunter could I sit outside and watch the stars.

That night stuck out just as vividly as my transformation. Perhaps it was the change of circumstances that night, or perhaps it was the release of my emotions I desperately closed off for my survival. I think it was the fact that it was the first time I was alone to watch the stars in peace to contemplate what my next move should be, pretending my large problems were just as small as the scenery around me that night.
