2 Amity The Runaway

The year is eight hundred fifty-three amino domino, and life sucks. Everything sucks. Why you might ask? Because ever since I was born, all I have known is control, and walls, very high walls. 'control yourself! And move faster!' They say. Nonstop commands, and no fun. Living my life like a prisoner. Well, who am I kidding, I pretty much am. Who am I, you might ask, I'm just a seventeen-year-old girl with blond white hair with green eyes, and my name is Amity. Well, that's what I've been told my mother wanted to call me. Ever since the big fiasco around the time I was born, me and all of the other girls my age have been kept a prisoner at the king's…um…..prison, pretty much. Around when I was born one of the five king's royal advisors received a prophecy that a girl born during that year's annual red moon festival would be born with extraordinary powers, and I mean like extraordinary powers! Not your rare fortune teller, or cool super strength person. This person was foretold to have every power known to man, and more! They even said that this prophesied child was to overthrow the kings themselves, and these kings have been king for like….. three thousand years I think. At least, this is what I've been told. The five kings were some of the rare people to have the power of infinite life unless you murder him that is. But they have been pretty good kings I've been told. Up until recent events that is. there are about one thousand to one thousand one hundred girls in the camp I'm in, but it's hard to tell, the number is always changing. Either from new girls being captured, or…..well lets just say that if a girl with power, any power at all, is discovered….. its over for her. Thankfully I don't have any powers! I'm as plain as can be. Some of the guards even say I'm gabby! I think that's a compliment, whatever it means….., anyway, it's not all bad, and even though most of the girls here have never met any of their parents,... and we can never leave this camp,... and we have no freedom whatsoever, it can be fun at times! Like the other day ended the birthday week for everyone. Since everyone here was born during the blood moon festival which is an annual week-long event, we pretty much all have the same birthday, and we all turned seventeen. And almost all of the guards are really nice. So they all pitched in and got us all a little something. Because it was another annual blood moon festival, they went out and got as many blood-moon cakes as they could! Blood-moon cakes are these little cakes that are died red with chocolate frosting on top, then they put little white sprinkles on top, to make it look like the stars. One of the guards, in particular, is very nice to me specifically. I'm not very sure why, but he's pretty cool. His name is Blake. Blake is actually double my age, so thirty-four. I've known him for as long as I can remember. He's like that father figure I've never had, and to him, I think I'm that daughter he never got. Because recently I heard some rumors that he had a daughter around the time that I was born and she was taken away, but I have never met her, and Blake never mentions her, so it makes me think that they discovered that she had powers. If that is true, well.... It's fucking sad....dam-it! Now I'm sad, Ugh….. well I try to be as nice as I can, considering everything that has happened. My motto in life is, 'be strong for those who can't', its not a very good motto, but I strive to be the best me I can be. Anyway, that's my life in a nutshell. I have to get back to the grind.

End of day log one~ Amity.

Amity looked up from her diary and sighed. 'I wish things were as happy as I painted them out to be in my diary.' Amity thought to herself. "Hey, you! Its testing day remember! Get your butt over here!" One of the guards shouted from a little ways away. "Coming!" She shouted back. Today was testing day for all of the girls to see if any of them have gained any powers. It is pretty common for someone to have powers and they don't know it until later on in life. "Hurry it up already!" The guard shouted. "I know, I know!" Amity returned. She finished cleaning up her things and started to head towards the examination rooms: In the camp, there were three large warehouse looking buildings, and that's where all of the girls slept. Inside them were hundreds of bunk beds and around ten bathrooms in each warehouse. Then there was the giant fenced in yards which had some grass, and of course, the examination rooms. Once every week the guards round up all the girls for an examination to see if they have any powers. They usually just have a man in there who has the ability himself to scan other people for powers, but on occasion, they have different sorts of tests. For instance, they have them take a wacky pill and they scan our resistance to it: When Amity made it over to the front of the examination rooms, she lined up behind all of the other girls. 'Why do I feel so nervous? It feels like my stomach is full of butterflies.' Amity thinks to herself while slightly zoning out. When it was finally her turn, she walked into the building. When she got entered through the front door, shutting it behind her, the sinking feeling in her stomach increased. "There you are." She turned and saw Blake sitting in a chair at the other end of the room. "Yeah sorry I'm late." She said as she scratched the back of her head looking to the ground. "Well, are you ready for your examination?" Blake asked getting up from his chair and walking over to her. "Ready as I'll ever be." Amity said looking back up at Blake, giving a little smirk. Before she reached the chair that was placed in the center of the small room, she was hit with this strange feeling once again, but this time stronger. " Uggh ." She moaned. "Are you alright Amity?" Blake asked glancing her up and down with a look of concern on his face. "Yeah, ill be fine." She responded. "Alright…" he returned, with a look of doubt on his face. Amity turned and sat in the medical chair. "Are you ready miss?" The evaluator asked. "Yes." She returned to confidently. "Alright, for this examination we are going to be giving you some metoclopramide to calm your nerves and make you more susceptible to questions. This drug only lasts about twenty minutes, so don't worry about an after effect." The evaluator said. The evaluator leaned over to the small table beside the chair that Amity was sitting in and poured about an ounce of the drug into a glass. He then turned back around to Amity and held out the glass. She took the glass from him and threw it back. " Uggghhh." She moaned as she finished swallowing the thick liquid. "That tastes nasty!" Amity said. "Yeah, it doesn't taste the best." The evaluator said whilst chuckling. She sat back in her chair and sighed, waiting for the drug to take effect. She sat there thinking of what that feeling was caused by when suddenly the feeling appeared once again. Only this time, it felt,…painful? 'what is happening to me?' Amity thought to herself as she clutched her stomach and groaned. "Are you sure you're ok?" Blake said more concerned now, looking over to her. "I don't know." Amity returned. " Ugghhh , I don't feel so well.". 'Why do I feel so angry and sad?', She thought to herself, 'It feels like all of my emotions are flying everywhere!'. "What is happening to her?" Blake asked turning his attention to the evaluator. "I don't know, the drug shouldn't be causing any discomfort." He said sounding puzzled. 'What's happening to me?' Amity said to herself. "Well can't you do something!" Blake, who was starting to panic, shouted at the evaluator. "Well the drug didn't cause this, so I don't know what is!" He shouted back. "Unless…., she is getting powers?" The evaluator said turning away from Blake to look at Amity. Blake turned and looked at the evaluator and yelled, "No! No, she isn't! It has to be something else!". "This is the only thing it could be. We have to tell the guards! When a new kid gets their powers for the first time it can be very dangerous!" The evaluator yelled back at Blake. The evaluator turned to leave the building to go and retrieve the guards, but Blake stepped in the way and said, "You are not going anywhere.". "What do you mean!" The evaluator shouted. "We have to get out of here before, she gains her full powers!". "You, are not going anywhere." Blake repeated in a more serious voice. "Are you mad!" The evaluator shouted at Blake with terror in his eyes. "No, I'm not. If you go and get those guards they will come in here and slaughter her!" Blake said. "But wha—" the evaluator was cut short of what he was about to say when behind him Amity started to cough. The two bickering men turned around to see her hacking up blood. "Blake…" Amity whined as she sat up from the chair she was sitting in, while still hunching over and clutching her stomach. "Amity!" Blake shouted as he ran to her side. "What is happening…" Blake said, more to himself. " Uuugggghhhhh! " Amity groaned loudly before falling to her knees. "NO!" Blake shouted, grabbing her by the shoulders. "I can't lose you too!" He shouted with a look of anguish in his eyes. Without warning, Amity's eye's shot open, glowing a deep red color. A scary look came across her face. It was a look lacking all emotion with eyes that could destroy someone's soul. "Amity?" Blake said confused. 'Amity's eye color is green! what is going on?' Blake thought to himself. Amity shot up off the ground and onto her feet, almost defying gravity. "See! I told you!", The evaluator said while slowly backing up out of fear, "She is going to kill us all! Her powers are unstable and she is obviously not in control! If she is the child they are looking for... Gods help us all!" He shouted as he ran out of the room. "You get back here!" Blake yelled after him, standing up to take a couple of steps before realizing that he was already too far ahead to catch up. He turned back around to find Amity just standing there. Not moving in the slightest. Just looking down at the ground, almost in a haze, and her eyes glowing. 'I can't move!' Amity thought to herself. Blake slowly approached her and said in the calmest tone he could muster at the time, "Amity…., can you hear me?" Blake reached his hand out slowly. When his hand was just inches away from her shoulder, behind him, entering the room, were the guards that the evaluator had run to fetch. "Stop!" One of them yelled. "Step away from the girl so no one gets hurt!". "She is not going to hut anyo—" Blake started, but just then, from over his shoulder, a ball of red flames shot right past his head and flew into the guard's face. "Ghaaaa!" The guard screamed as he fell to the ground trying to wipe all of the embers off his face but failing miserably as the embers burnt into his flesh. 'What!' Blake thought to himself. He turned around to face Amity and saw that she was looking up from the ground with glowing eyes and holding her arm out in front of her, palm open. "Amity?" Blake said with a slight crack in his voice. 'what is happening to me? I didn't do that!' Amity thought to herself. Blake slowly started to approach her. "Blake! Don't go near that girl! Look at what she just did Private Johansson!" the commander bellowed. "Can you hear me Amity?" Blake said ignoring the commander.

'YES!' , Amity screamed inside her head, hoping to break out of this prison her mind had locked her in, 'But I can't control what I'm doing!' . "If you can hear me, then please stop this. You hurt them!". Amity's Body turned to look at Blake, no longer looking at the ground, with her eyes glowing. Blake started to slowly approach. "Don't do anything rash, you fur-ball." He said in a playful voice, but he realized that she was not the fur ball that he knew. Something inside of her had taken over. Blake reached his hands out to touch her shoulder. 'Please….' He thought to himself. Amity's body looked Blake dead in the eyes with her glazed over face and glowing eyes.

'NO! Don't touch me! I might hurt you!' Amity screamed inside of her mind. Blake touched her shoulder just barely when, "NO!" Amity screened as she collapsed to the floor on her hands and knees. 'I'm back!' She thought to herself. "Amity! Your back! Are you ok?" He got onto his knees next to her and grabbed her shoulders. "I don't know…" she said. "Get her, quickly! While her powers are dimmed!" The evaluator yelled to the guards. Blake, who had almost forgotten they were there, whipped around and shouted back, "Over my dead body!", standing back up he fired a warning shot of ice at the guard's feet. "Are you insane? She has powers! She needs to go!" The guard yelled at Blake. "NO! I won't let you take her too!" He screamed back. Just the thought of having to turn on his fellow comrades made Blake tear up slightly. "Blake…..just go. You cant do this. I have powers now. You know what they will do to you if you try to help me.". "But I can't leave you…" he returned quickly, shooting down the thought. "It's ok…." She said looking down to the ground and starting to cry, terrified of what she knew was going to happen to her. 'this is it. When they discover that you have powers of any kind, that's it for you. Off to the chopping block.', Amity thought to herself, just trembling at the thought. Blake looked down at Amity who was looking at the ground with tears streaming down her face. "NO! I am not going to give up this easy! Not like last time…" Blake said. Amity looked up from the ground, but this time her eyes were glowing again. "What are you standing there for? Get her before she uses her powers again!" The evaluator yelled at the guards. "Yes sir, sorry sir." They returned. "Not again...," Blake said sighing, 'How can I deal with her out of control powers and these three guards?'. "Well, you are not going to stop, so I'm not going to let you do this alone." Amity said giving a smirk up to blake, slightly relieved that he didn't give up on her. Blake, now relieved that she can control her powers to some extent, turned around to face the guards. As they drew their swords Blake stomped his foot to the ground, freezing there feet in place. Behind him, Amity, now standing up, took a step forward and lifted her arm supporting it with her other hand. 'I think this is how I did it last time.' She thought to herself. She concentrated on the fire she had felt before right in the center of her palm. She saw that the flames started to appear. 'Yes!' She thought, 'now, I just have to let it loose.'. She imagined in her mind what she hated most, which is insects, and imagined shooting them. And like that, she released one of the fireballs into a guards chest. " AAAHHHH! " The guard screamed, but being unable to move due to his feet being frozen in place he collapsed to the ground clutching where she had hit. Blake turned to look at Amity. She was different now, he didn't know how, but she seemed more serious and mature. It wasn't like her. It was as if a different person was inside of her. The other two guards looked at Amity in absolute fear. One of the guards patted himself down searching for something in a pocket. He finally found the small metal object and went to throw it at Amity before, "Stop!" Blake yelled shooting ice out of his palm to freeze the guard's hand. "We need to get out of here Amity. Go and break the window." Blake said. Amity nodded and turned to leave when the evaluator, who had also been frozen to the ground like the other three guards, said, "You will regret this. You know they will hunt you down till the ends of the earth.". "I don't care. As long as we keep running, they will never catch us." Blake said coldly to the evaluator. "We? You are quite certain of yourself, but its a shame that you'll have to die here." "What?" Blake said, slightly believing his words. "You know,… I do have a power." Just then, around fifty guards all started to pile into the room. 'NO! He has telepathy!' Blake thought to himself. He turned to Amity who had just popped open the window and yelled, "Amity run!". "What? I'm not leaving here without you." "Just go! I'll hold them off." Blake said. "No!" She returned. Amity ran over to Blake's side and started firing more fireballs at the guards to help keep them out of the building. Blake turned to her and frowned. He reached out and grabbed her hands. "What are yo—" she was cut off by the shooting pain up her hands. " AAGGHHH" she cried out. "sorry, you'll forgive me later, but you can't control your powers right now. this should calm the nerves in your hands." Blake said. She looked down at her hands and saw at he had frozen them. Blake turned around and stomped his foot to the ground, and like magic, he froze the few guards who had managed to pile into the building and door shut. "Now that their taken care of," Blake said with a grin on his face, "We can make our grand escape. Man, you're stubborn.". "Wonder where I get it from?" Amity said sarcastically. He turned back to Amity with a grin on his face and pushed her to the other side of the room where the small window was located. Amity took a step back and said, "Stand back." As she lifted her hands up. Blake looked as she had managed to activate the flame power she seemed to possess and started to melt the ice on her hands like it was nothing. When she finished melting the ice just seconds later, she said, "Let's go." Blake looked at her and said, "That seemed a little too easy. Well, ladies first." With a smirk on his face. "Fine" she returned returning his grin. She hopped up to the high window and grabbed the windowsill ledge, hoisting herself up. When she crawled through and landed on the ground, she whisper-shouted back up to the window, "All clear, the guards haven't come around the back of the building yet. Strange…" Blake jumped up and climbed out himself. When he got up from the ground he saw Amity standing still staring at something. When he looked in the direction she was looking, nothing was there. "Are you ok?" Blake asked her. She didn't respond. "Hello?" He said waving his hand in front of her face. He realized that her eyes had started to water, but her face seemed emotionless. Blake grabbed hold off her shoulders and said, "Now is not the time for this, Amity, come on. We have to leave before they come and search the back of the building. She didn't respond. 'You had better not make me drag your butt out of here.', Blake thought to himself. 'Why can't I move again? Come on legs, work!' Amity thought to herself. Blake looked down and noticed that near her stomach her shirt was red. 'Is that blood?' Blake thought to himself, reaching his hand out. just then Amity grabbed Blake's hand, with which he was reaching out to touch her wound, and said, "Please don't…. It hurts…". "Are you ok? How did this happen? I'm so confused. You didn't get hit, did you?." Blake said worriedly. "I don't know what happened. It feels like... I don't even know, uggghhh . I think I can move though." Amity said seeming to come back to normal. She looked down at her stomach and saw the bloodstained spot on her shirt. "Ouch…that hurts." she murmured. She reached down to touch it herself and winced in pain. " ugh…" she said, "this looks bad". "Let me check it." Blake said, "If it is really that bad, then you might need medical attention.", 'Not that we can probably get any', Blake thought to himself. "No, it's fine. We need to keep moving." Amity said. "But if you're badly hurt we need to make sure that you can make it over the wall." Blake said concerned, gesturing over to the ten foot high walls that surround the whole camp. "It's really not that bad." Amity quickly returned. " If you say so…." Blake said in a doubting tone. They continued on their way over to the wall that was about twenty yards away, making sure to duck behind some other buildings to stay hidden. When they reached the wall, they heard shouting coming from behind them and turned to see what was causing it. "Over there!" One of the guards shouted. Amity could see at least thirty-five guards rushing over to stop them. "How are we going to stop all of them!" Amity said looking around for a way out of some sort. "it's alright we will think of something." Blake said, trying to be reassuring, but to no avail. Blake turned around and grabbed Amity by the shoulders. "I'll boost you over the wall and you can blast them from up there while I climb up!" He said. "Alright, let's do it." Amity returned. Blake ran over to the wall and crouched down, making a sling out of his hands to boost her up. Amity ran over to him and stepped on his hands, but before Blake could launch her to the top of the wall, an arrow pierced Amity's shoulder. " Gggaaaahhhh! " She screamed. She looked over and saw the that the arrow had gone strait through her shoulder and blood was spewing out. But before she could react, Blake threw his hands upward, launching her to the top of the wall. She winced in pain as she had to pull herself up with her bad arm. When she finally stood up, while holding her shoulder wincing in pain, she turned around and saw that the guards had gained a lot of ground. "Here, I'll help you up." Amity yelled down to Blake, lowering her good hand down. Blake didn't respond. He only stood there, facing the ever approaching guards. A wave of fear hit Amity in the gut, almost like she was punched. "What are you doing? Come on let's go!" She yelled at him reaching her hand down farther. Blake still didn't respond. "Get out of here while you can, Amity, it's too dangerous." Blake shouted up to her, still facing the guards. 'Is he really this insane? Thinking I'm gonna leave his sorry ass here!', Amity thought to herself. "What! No! I'm still not leaving you!" She yelled back at him. Just them, another arrow shot right by Amity's head. 'Shit! That was to close.' Amity thought to herself. "Think about this, Amity. You can't pull me up with one arm, and I can't get up on my own, not with the little amount of strength I have left. I've stretched myself to thin. If you run now, I can distract them long enough for you to escape. They won't kill me, they will just take me prisoner and question me, but they will kill you! And I can't let that happen.". Blake reasoned with her. "No! I need you to come with me! All I have ever known is this place. I don't know what to do without you. Please….Blake." She pleaded, tears starting to form in her eyes. Blake turned around to see Amity leaning over the wall with her good hand reaching out to him, crying. "Don't do that…" Blake said with a look of regret on his face. "Please." Amity said. Blake sighed and turned back around to face the guards who had almost arrived. He stomped his foot to the ground once more, but Amity could notice that his powers had definitely weakened, and froze some of the guards in their tracks. But the ones that were behind them ran around and had almost reached the wall. 'No, no, no!', Amity thought to herself, "Blake! Hurry!". She stretched out her hand as far as it would go. Blake turned to look at her one last time and smiled, "I'm sorry…". He turned back around to face the guards and fell to his knees defeated and exhausted. "NO!" Amity screamed. As the guards finally reached the base of the wall, Amity stood up and started firing more fireballs at the guards as fast as she could around Blake to shield him and to keep them from climbing the wall themselves. One of the guards shot another arrow at Amity making her lose her balance, but this time the arrow hit her in the chest on the right side, just missing her heart. " Aaagghhh! " She screamed as she fell backward off the wall. ' Thump! ' Amity landed flat on her back. ' Aggghhh! , shit that hurt.' she thought as she looked over to the arrow that was in her shoulder that had been pushed farther into her skin. She got back up of the ground by pushing off her knee. "You are under arrest for helping one of the blood moon children escape. Do you have anything to say for yourself!" She could hear the guard yelling at Blake. 'Why are they not hopping the wall?' she thought to herself. Amity looked up to see that the top of the wall had been covered by giant ice spikes for as far along the wall as she could see. "Dang it! He collapsed." one of the guards said on the other side of the wall. "Well its no surprise. He must have overexerted himself. Just look at how strong his powers are!" Another guard said. 'I knew that he was strong, but not this strong!' Amity thought to herself. 'Well, it's no use staying here. I might as well get out of here while I still can, but to where?' Amity started to walk in the direction of the woods, slightly limping. Amity looked up in the direction she was heading and saw that the sun was starting to set past the mist covered mountains in the distance. 'It's getting late. I need to find somewhere to bed down for the night.', Amity thought to herself. "What am I going to do…"
