Chapter 19: Unleashing the Primal Instinct

Meanwhile, in the completely different place from Jin…

"GRR!" Hoarse and raspy screams mixed with human cries of agony as pairs of glowing red eyes lunged forward, thrusting and plunging their sharp, pointy fangs.

Their bleeding nails dug into soft, ivory-pale skin, saliva dripping from their sharp, pointed fangs. Their bodies tensed for a moment before freezing and splitting.

This was followed by a series of bursts of swift, slashing claws and spurts of blood that responded to each of those cries. Their organs ruptured from their bodies, their tongues rolling out in shock.

A sea of thick red blood filled the entire space, amidst which lay many disorganized corpses. A shadowy figure stood amidst the carnage.

"Ah... amazing," said the shadowy figure in an enchanting and soothing voice, amidst the dead silence of the aftermath, followed by the dripping sound of blood.

Darkness filled the space, making it impossible to determine the location or appearance of the speaker.

Nevertheless, the enchanting and soothing voice came from the one standing shadow, the shadow that also had a pair of red eyes.

Just after savoring and tasting the sweetness of victory, a game screen flashed before the mysterious figure.

"So this is how 'he' felt. Holding back the primal instinct." Among the darkness, shiny white teeth, along with a pair of fangs, were seen as its gestures showed a smirk upon speaking.

Back to the Zhongyuan Apartment, the once bright and clear blue sky had turned orange from the rays of light shining from behind the building.

Sparrows cast their shadows as they flew out, appearing to avoid danger. Meanwhile, Wei Jingyi paced back and forth by the gate.

As she gnawed on her nails, her scabbard clinked and rang, and her ponytail swung as she kept glancing toward the room where Jin had gone.

"It's been an hour, why hasn't he come back?" she sighed in frustration, stomping her feet on the ground.

As Jin had suspected, she too had been in the same area when the bats attacked.

Luckily, on her way home, she had stopped at a nearby mini-market to use the restroom, which had saved her from the vampiric bats.

From the blurry glass of the toilet, she was terrified to see a group of bats attacking the cashier and the nocturnal customers.

Her legs were trembling, and despite her long training about sword discipline and body, she somehow felt powerless against these creatures.

Consumed by fear and with no other choice, she locked the door and tried to hide, only to find that she had been transported to a different dimension.

After returning from this strange dimension, she chose to hide until morning, in short.

She walked among the ashes in the glaring light that illuminated the entire mini-market, but strangely, she didn't find any corpses of those who had died in the night.

Finally, she arrived at a scene where a group of humans had gathered and were aiming their guns at familiar faces. "If I hadn't witnessed his power firsthand, I wouldn't have risked my life to save him."

She took a deep breath, lost in the memories of the past, and gazed into the distance. Her dazed expression lasted only a moment as the orange light of the sunset entered her eyes.

"Now, little Jin is busy saving the other tenants. Those disgusting creatures might be coming out of their shadows right now," she muttered in a low voice, scanning the surroundings as darkness slowly crept in.

She tightly gripped the handle of her katana, feeling nervous. In addition to these creatures, she was also aware of a faint hovering screen that displayed her "stats" and the rewards she received from answering the strange questions.

That night, hiding in the toilet was not about sitting around foolishly and crying like a weakling. It was about studying the unfamiliar screens and trying to make sense of what had just happened.

She noticed that the terms on the screen were similar to those her classmates talked about in video games, but the problem was she had never played any of them before.

"However, if I interpret these numbers and strange names based on normal logic, strength should be related to my power; agility, to my coordination; dexterity, to my precision; and intelligence, to my brain?"

That was the best conclusion she could come up with, based on her lifetime dedication to sword training and formal college education.

Seeing that she had high numbers, she thought she was strong enough to handle bullets, but when compared to Jin, their stats had a significant gap.

She knew that Jin was incredibly strong. Moreover, he had been their security personnel.

However, she also believed that she was strong enough to take on Jin, having devoted her entire life to training with the sword and countless hours of hard work poured into it.

But her view of Jin's power completely changed when she saw him easily dodge a sniper bullet, and heard the screams of countless gang members from inside the marketplace.

Not to mention the strange-looking creatures that came out of the supermarket building.

The first time she saw them, she was bewildered, as she had never seen anything like them before, not even on her way to or in the mini-market.

Now witnessing the same thing happening as Jin, who killed a gigantic bat and fell from the second floor but was still fine, even as she witnessed his crazy injury getting healed, all of these things drove her crazy.

"He's a damn superman! Can I kill these disgusting creatures with my current stats?" she wondered aloud, her expression twitching as she tightly gripped the handle of her katana.

She couldn't help but direct all of these events to the strange screen hovering in the corner of her eye.

When she split the bullet, it was her first time using this skill. She blindly followed the instructions and was bewildered when she saw everyone moving slowly.

But knowing they were in a grave situation, she didn't hesitate to take action.

"After using that amazing ability, I felt like my brain was going to explode," she furrowed her brows and shivered at the memory of the agonizing feeling.

This was another reason why she sought protection from Jin. "This is only temporary, until I understand what these are and how they work," she said through gritted teeth.

She glanced down to see her other hand holding one of the magic crystals that she found after Jin killed those gigantic bats.

She had witnessed Jin repeatedly crushing those creatures as if there would be a significant impact from behind the gate. "Maybe this is the key to how he became so strong," she thought to herself.

While Wei Jingyi was lost in her thoughts, the man she had spoken about was currently grinning maniacally.

"Oi, Oi, Oi, is this all you've got?" Jin was drenched and standing in a pool of blood, his arms outstretched as he taunted the red-eyed figures that lurked in the shadows.

The sun had already set and the light was quickly fading.

Despite being on the second floor, the situation had been completely reversed; rather than being pushed back, he now stood among the throng of Blood Slaves that filled the corridor, while only a few Level 5 Vampiric Bats hovered above, glaring at him.

It seemed that all of the Blood Slaves from the remaining floors had been attracted by the commotion he created, and they had even blocked the elevator and patched up the missing glass windows.

"Weak! You're all so weak!" Jin screamed, as he stepped on one of the struggling Level 5 Vampiric Bats, which writhed like a worm in heat, attempting to scratch and break free from his foot.

But with just a light tap, he easily crushed its feeble skull.

CRUSH!

[You have successfully killed a Tier 0 - Level 5 Vampiric Bat!]

Blood burst out and splashed against him, but he didn't even blink as he fixed his stare on the surrounding Vampiric Bats.

Power was still flowing and intoxicating his mind. As the game window screen showed up, Jin also checked his stats for a moment while waiting for these cowardly creatures to make a move.

They were hovering in mid-air in an apartment with a ceiling no higher than 2.5 meters. They were too smart as they kept avoiding his attacks and instead aimed at the ceiling above to bury him!

"My stats are amazing!" After absorbing more than 20 Blood Slaves outside the apartment, he gained +1 strength, making his total strength 27 points!

In addition, he used his free attributes to increase his agility by +5 and the remaining points to his dexterity.

Added with his passive skill that increases his movement speed by +5%, his strength, reaction, and speed were already superior to that of a level 5 creature.

He used to dream of becoming more powerful, especially since he was once cornered by those gang bastards, but now... killing them was no different than killing ants!

"But I still cannot understand a firearm, especially a bazooka." He, whose lips were spread widely, showing a big grin, tried to suppress the self-arrogant feeling that was pushing his inner desire.

ROAR!

As Jin was slightly dazing off, suddenly the remaining level 5 Vampiric Bats let out a mighty and trembling roar.

They were clearly provoked by how this weak and tiny human dared to kill their kin in front of their sight!

But they were not so stupid as to charge at him, knowing it would cost them their lives. They knew that this human's strength was already superior to that of the humans they had considered food.

"Shut up, you coward. If you don't come, then I will come to you! Hahah!" Jin laughed evilly as his body flickered on the spot, speeding toward the creatures.

But the next moment, something unbelievable happened.

"No!" a weak and crying girl's voice sounded.
