9 Chapter Nine

The feeling of the sun stroking your skin, leaving a trail of warmth at the places it touched is a feeling that a vampire can never experience. For that touch would be lethal, yet Mason had to restrain himself from running in the sun to experience just a few seconds of its calming touch, to clear his head just for a moment, and if that is how he would die, then he would welcome death with a smile.

But he knew he shouldn't, so seeing the young hybrid girl seat on the green grass, playing with the small flowers while enjoying the sun without realizing how privileged she was made Mason jealous of her, and all the others who carried human blood in their veins.

It would never cross their minds what an amazing and important feeling the sun gave, unless it was taken away from them by force.

Something touching his long brown curls snapped Mason back to reality. He looked down at the smilling girl who had placed a flower crown on his head. The flowers were still warm from the sun and her touch.

"You look pretty with that" she kindly said, managing to erase the blank look in his eyes and put a smile on his face. Placing a hand at the top of her head, feeling the way her head had started to burn from all the time in the sun wondering if he should pull her back inside in case she got dizzy. But first he thanked her taking in the way her purple eyes went wide for a second as she was caught by surprise from his gesture.

"Your head is hot."

Cheryl scoffed, offended "All of me is hot"

The man giggled, paying her no mind "Let's go inside before you get a headache"

Turning around to leave he did not notice how the girl had not moved. How her purple eyes had become filled with sadness as she touched the top of her head, where Mason had placed his hand. And the feeling of the sun could not even come close enough to compare to this.

"Where were you? Do you have any fucking idea how many heart attacks you gave me? I will die and you wont even care because you don't have a consience!"

Cheryl and Mason just blinked blankly at James' explosion who had gone red in the face, heaving as he tried to once more not to strangle the hybrid, again. As James continued to scream at them, now including Mason in his screams who should have notified him when he had found her, the two continued on their way to the girls room completely ignoring the screaming man who was following them, being far too busy talking about Cher's supermacy.

After that little mental break down of his it was decided that James should down some sleeping pills, for everyones sake. He was down in seconds.

Cheryl smacked her hands next to James' ear continiously and loudly yet he remained unmoving, snoring loudly on her bed. Having had enough Elijah grabbed her wrist making her jump in the air. They stared at each other.

"Did you kill him?" she whispered like she was asking something illegal that should stay between them.

"No" he kept the same tone as her "It's the sleeping pills"

"Vampires take sleeping pills?"

"Yes, but they are not like human ones"

"Ah."

James made a weird move suddenly with a loud snore causing the two to stop their conversation and redirect their attention to him. Cheryl cocked her head to the side "Was that a triple axel?"

"Maybe"

Redirecting their wide eyes to each other they stayed silent for second before bursting out laughing. Cheryl pulled her hands away but Elijah didn't let go. On the second failed try, Cheryl's smile completely dropped, and her laughter died down. The only sound now being Elijah's laugh,

"You know, some times I wonder why you act the way you do, and it occures to me," Elijah picked up his head to look at the hybrid that now wore a hostile expression, with a cold smile. Cheryl swallowed anxiously, her eyes never leaving the older man's face. "you are-"

A knock on the door.

That was what made Elijah let go of her wrists, Cheryl finally feeling as if she can breath again pulled her hands close to her chest, rubbing on her wrists as Elijah made his way to the door. With glossy eyes she glared at the man's back, feeling her blood boiling.

Her glare was quickly replaced with a smile, hiding her hands behind her back, when a familiar blonde entered the room, holding a thin brown box in his hand, as well as adorning three pink lines on his cheek. "Is that why you haven't been around all day?"

Oliver giggled awkwardly, his eyes darting to Elijah "You took a quick guess, Cher"

"Cheryl."

"What?"

"My name is Cheryl."

"Okay...." Oliver cleared his throat, running a hand in his blonde locks as he made a sound of realisation suddenly remembering what he had on his person. He handed the thin, brown box to the girl "For you"

"Brown isn't my color"

"Not the box, the inside-"

"Just leave it on the bed, thanks"

Oliver did as he was told "You are acting weird"

Cheryl continued to smile "I'm just tired and I want to take a bath. Is it alright if I'm left alone for a while?"

"Of course" Elijah said looking at the girl who was adamantly avoiding eye contact. Throwing the sleeping James over his shoulder he exited the room, with Oliver reluctanly following after him, his eyes catching Cheryl as he was about to leave.

"Scream if you need help"

For a second he thought that the girl had not heard him as she was starring at the thin box that was seatting at the foot of her bed, seemingly completely into thought. The century old man waited patiently for her reply and only when she said, in a distant and devoid of emotion voice "I'll do that" Did he feel comfortable enough leaving her alone.

When the click of the door was heard Cheryl looked at the door, with eyes wide, glossy and being filled with rage she grabbed the box and threw it at the closed door. That was the first of many items she decided to take her anger out on.

Surrounded by broken glass, teared books, broken hello kitty figurines and even feathers dancing in the air from the pillows she teared apart a very messy Cheryl took quick breaths taking in the mess she had made even if she didn't actually give it any mind as she recklessly stepped over the pieces of glass to reach the box that was laying on the floor.

Ignoring her bloody feet the albino kneeled down, carefully grabbing the crocodile skinned brown jewellery box. Moving it closer to her ear she shook it violently hopping to take a hint about its contents but she heard nothing. Cocking an eyebrow she decided that it was much easier to just open it.

"Mhmm" Cheryl made a sound examining the silver oval shaped pendant with a bird on it. Upon closer inspection she realised that the bird was a blue jay, she had seen a whole documentary on it when she was bored. One thing that had impressed her was their ability to imitate other animals sounds.

Taking it in her hand she let the pendant hang in the light of the room. Looking back at the box she saw a small note on the inside. Using one hand she brought it closer to see that it read, in gold calligraphy letters 'Love, Dad'

And at that moment she realized why lots of children end up killing their fathers. It must be a bliss to be able to do that. Her grip around the paper hardened. Oh, the feeling of finally being rid of people that just keep saying they love you whenever they need something from you must be euphoric.

"Parents are such a pain"
