2 Chapter 2

Luckily, Will did not receive any fatal injury since he was one and a half mile away from the center of the explosion. He looked around and saw bodies, some gory; losing their limbs, some heads were severed, and blood and bones were everywhere. There were people around him, calling for their families. Will numbly walked over where he last saw Nancy, hoping his kids were with her. He felt relief when he saw Daisy and Edmond near the pillar of a building where Nancy was located. However, his heart shattered into pieces when he saw Nancy lying unconscious, in a pool of blood surrounding her.

As he reached Nancy, Will saw Daisy looking dazed next to her with Edmond on her lap, and patches of blood on their heads.

"Are you hurt?" Will asked as he gazed at his daughter's face searching for any serious wounds.

Sensing his dad's presence, Daisy looked up at him with sad and tearful eyes, nodding listlessly while caressing her brother's jet black bushy hair.

"How's Eddie?" he asked as he took a glance at Edmond.

"He's okay. He hasn't got back his consciousness yet," Will heard Daisy answered and then turned her attention to her mom.

Will then also turned to look at his wife. He knelt down, picked her hands which were cold, pale and stiff.

"Nancy?" he whispered, gently stroking her hair and cupped his hand over her colorless cheeks. He also reached for her womb to feel the baby but there was no sign of life. Both Nancy and the baby inside her were gone. Bewildered, Will started to sob as tears streamed down from his eyes. He tried to hold back his tears, but broke down as soon as he felt his daughter embracing him and weeping her heart out.

"Dad? Daisy? Why are you guys crying?" They both turn around to see little Edmond rubbing his eyes, not knowing what was going on.

Instead of answering the young boy, Daisy pulled him into a tight embrace.

"Ew.. Daisy, get off me. Your tears and snots are making my shirt wet and dirty." Edmond tried to get out from his sister's tight embrace.

While the kids were hugging, Will took a couple of deep breaths, and decided that it was best to give his wife and the unborn baby a proper burial.

"Hmm… why is Mommy still sleeping? Is she feeling unwell dad?" Edmond asked while tugging his coat.

Unable to break the horrifying news to his son, he lied saying, "Mommy is tired. She said she is going to take a long nap. She told you not to worry?"

"Okay." Edmond nodded.

Will lifted Nancy up. Daisy and Edmond followed him to the nearby countryside. Will laid Nancy down on the ground. As soon as they arrived the countryside, the children got distracted by the butterflies that flew passed them. They chased the butterfly as Will looked around the surroundings to find a tool to dig the ground, but he saw nothing; he decided to dig with his bare hands.
