8 Mason's Plots

It was a cool spring and trees had begun to regrow their fallen leaves. The forest was tranquil as usual and the occasional sound of beasts could be heard.

"Roar!!" The tranquility was broken by the sudden roar of a beast. A 1.5metres tall and 2 metres long beast could be seen running like a scared dog. The beast was red in colour and had the head of a lion with thick fur all over its body that looked like a sheep's.

When one turned to look at the reason the beast was running frantically, majority will be surprised. A young boy with black hair flying as he ran chased after the beast. The boy held a thick stick with a sharpened age with his left hand as he pursued the beast. It looked as if the boy was running on the air and occasionally, he would jump on branches like a monkey as he chased the beast.

When Chase got close enough to the beast, he stamped the ground and threw himself into the air. He then threw the stick in his hand towards the beast and followed after the stick with his right foot leading his body as he fell heavily towards the direction the stick was thrown to.

The stick penetrated a little of the beast's skin but a second later, a leg from above landed on the stick with force making the stick to penetrate through the beast effortlessly.

Mason who was standing on a tree nearby shouted "Brat, do you have to be so stylish?"

Chase was standing straight with one leg on the stick that stood vertical to the ground with its other end piercing the motionless beast to the ground. He then jumped on the floor and removed the stick from the beast.

Mason appeared beside Chase and said, "Well...that was your first kill. How was it?"

Chase said while wiping the blood from his support stick "It was too easy. Can't we find something harder? I did not even get to use the air elements."

Mason's mouth twitched 'That was a rank 3 magic beast that was on the verge of a breakthrough to rank 4 and this brat is just a rank 2 late stage elementalist. Yet he said what?.. too easy?...I'll show you easy.'

Chase unaware of Mason's evil plot began to dissect the beast. 'Now that I can start hunting these magic beasts? I can deviate from the rabbit agenda.'

Mason "Brat...I have a small mission for you...Are you up for it?"

Chase's face flushed with excitement when he heard that. "Sure...what's the mission?" However, he failed to notice the evil spark that flashed across Mason's eyes.

Mason "There's a big cave towards the west of this forest. I want you to retrieve the rising moon herb from there. The herb can increase your affinity with the air elements."

Chase "Didn't you say that the rising moon herb is usually guarded by powerful rank 8 or above air element magic beast?"

Magic beasts were ranked from rank 1 to 12 (that's what was discovered for now) and from rank 5, they develop an affinity with an element.

Mason "Err...I said usually....Brat are you doubting me?"

Chase "You taught me to always be cautious."

Mason "Well not against your teacher brat...Let's go back. Tomorrow you will head to retrieve the herb alone. Be careful as you tread towards that area. Rank 5 and above magic beasts appearing there is as common as sand appearing in a desert."

Chase "Old man!! what the heck!!"

Mason chuckled "It's training..hehehe"

Chase "At least will I get a reward if I succeed?... It ain't gonna be easy to avoid the beasts to and fro."

Mason "Reward you for what? It's part of your training, that's the reward."

Chase "Common old man. Don't be selfish. I know you have lots of treasures in your storage ring. And don't you think I need a real weapon?"

Mason "Well... If it's a weapon, I can give you one. A spear right?"

Chase "Yeah. But that still doesn't count as a reward because I will need a weapon to accompany me on this expedition."

Mason "Humph...fine you win. If you succeed, I will teach you how to play the zither."

Chase's lifeless eye glimmered. 'Just what I was waiting to hear.'

Mason got sight of Chase's happy mood and smirked inwardly 'Brat you're still too green..hehe... You'll be scared out of your pants tomorrow."

As they walked without hurry back to their little house, Mason asked "Brat, why are you so interested in learning the zither?"

Chase "Nothing special really. I just think it looks cool when I feel you playing it. Plus that, try imagining this scenery, a young handsome blind man whose eyes turned grey, sitting in the midst of flowers while playing the zither and a spear that was covered with a black cloth standing vertically beside him."

Mason almost puked out blood "So in other words, you want to use my divine skills to pick up girls?"

Unexpectedly, when Chase heard the word girls, his handsome face showed repellence and discomfort.

Mason noticed this and thought 'It seems that thing with his cousin really shocked him. Is he planning to die a saint? humph.....not when I'm alive. I have to add another plot to my list of plots now. ..sigh..where should I find a wife for him?...forget it for now. Let's see how tomorrow's plot unfolds first of all.'

Chase who was oblivious to Mason's weird hobby of forming plots behind people's back continued walking along till they reached the little house. The house still looked desolate without any beast around its surrounding.

Chase "Why aren't there beasts around this area?"

Mason "Because this area is hidden."

Chase "It would be hidden only if the beasts were blind fools."

Mason shrugged his shoulders "Well I guess they are blind fools then."
