10 Chapter 10

"Why thank you brat, saved me the trouble of capturing her," he pulled a gun out, it was black and smoking "here's the reward from the empress," he fired at me, red light and heat filling my vision and the alleyway.

I was expecting pain or death however, I was knocked back and hit the net. My shield automatically activated and blocked the bullet. It had exploded on the shield and changed the blue shield to a shade of purple. He fired again, and I braced against the shot. I was pushed back however I began running at him, he began firing rapidly however the drawback to this is that they loss their power. Although, it hurt to keep bracing against them. The man was a bit old, he looked around his fifties and was very skinny and lanky. When I collided with him, it was like hitting a sack of sticks. He was dazed so I jabbed him with my right arm. The hit though was inexperienced, it didn't hit any weak spot such as his nose, temple or gut. He pulled out a knife a swing down at my face. The knife bounced of the shield however he kept plunging it down. I realised his other hand still held the gun however, it wasn't in use; He must have forgotten he was holding. I parried the knife blow and punched his face, the blow connected with his nose and made him stumble back. He dropped his gun and I grabbed it and aimed at him.

"Try you little shit," he laughed when it refused to fire.

He lunged at my feet however I hit the top of his balding head with the gun. He ignored the blow and stabbed my calf. I screamed and fell to the floor where he pinned me down. He began to rapidly stab at my shield, slowly the blade began to cut through. I was shell shocked by the pain in my calf, the blade burned the cut and went deep, I heard and felt that it was sizzling. I was brought back to reality by a cut directly on my face. The blade was cutting deep enough that it had knocked my right cheek. It burned like hell and I reacted by pressing the joystick button on my shield. Before he could stab through and kill me, he was launched into the air by the shield blast. I took a few quick breathes and rolled to the side to evade him landed on me. I got onto my feet and saw he was still getting up.

"You guys don't quit," I sighed.

I limped over and kicked his head with my good leg this, however, was a bad idea. I lost balance due to all my weight being on my injured leg, so I fell over. He was dazed however he began to crawl over to me. He plunged his knife once again into my leg and dragged me towards him. I screamed in agony as he used the knife as a lever, I kicked him in the head however it was fruitless and bounced off him.

"I'm going to keep stabbing you until this entire pavement is red brat," he cackled and plunged the knife once again into my leg.

The pain was too much I sobbed and screamed when he stabbed me once again. Suddenly he was tackled off me. I saw through blurry eyes he was held in the air by his neck. The person was Sylvia. "how did she get out?" I wondered while she slammed the old man into the floor.

"I will not be bested by my target," he choked.

Derek came running in as well, a security camera at the entrance to the alley allowed him to see the fight, his lateness due to this being the opposite side of the school to him.

"Sylvia let him go," he barked.

She threw him away and Derek shot him with his gun. The result the same as last time against Mr Michael.

"Are you stupid Philip, you could have died," he screamed at me.

He ripped a part of his shirt and wrapped it tightly around my leg as a bandage "that'll hold it for now, Sylvia follow me."

More teachers came calmly to the scene and began dragging the old man after cuffing him; his fate now the same as Michael.

I had passed out a few times while he brought me to the private hanger, funny how the roles are reversed. Sylvia is the one who protected me in the end. I was semi-conscious during him operating on my leg. The futuristic technology allowed my calf to repair rapidly with problem. I heard him mumbling things to himself while he worked on my leg.

"He survived a fight with a trained assassin and disarmed him," I managed to hear him before passing out again.

I woke up with a startle. Derek walked through the doorway.

"What happened," I groaned.

"You have been asleep for a few hours," he pulled out a chair and sat on it

"Now, I want an explanation as to why you trapped Sylvia in a rope trap."

"I wanted to beat her at her game," I stated

"Why? You were meant to be her protector," he raised his voice.

"And her friend!" I yelled while sitting upright "you wanted me to be her friend, I'm finding it very hard to be her friend when she's attacking me every day."

"You've taught her to be like this, you and Clavicus she thinks the training is a game which people do regularly," I explained "I was showing her it's not fun to do that, that's why I made a net to capture her because she's stronger and faster than me. You always say I should use my best strengths."

"You could have been killed Phillip, both of you!" He shouted.

"How was I meant to know that man was an assassin, it's the first time I met him."

"It's not the fact you know who the assassins are, it's the fact you placed yourself in that vulnerable position!"

"You treat me like a kid but then expect me not to be a kid, I'm 11," I waved my arms.

He rested his head in his hand.

"Why does Sylvia not know about any of this?" I demanded to know "if I was in her shoes, I would have wanted to know I have a few murderers on my tail."

"You don't know anything young man," he stated.

"neither does she! Yes, she's smarter than most people in this school but she doesn't know how to talk to other people, emphasizes with them or understand the intricacies of communication."

"That's something I can't fix," he replied.

"Then find someone to do it."

"alright then, you do it, you're the one complaining so much about it so do something about this," he ordered.

"I don't have the free time, the entirety of it is used by the training," I barked.

"Well figure it out,"

"Ok then, the weekends will be devoid of these training sessions, that way I can hang out with Sylvia," I replied.

"You young man, you enrage me to no end," Derek's face scrunched "you want that free time so badly? Fine your going to be doing the same amount of work but now it's going to be done in the time you have graciously given us."

"Fine then, by the end of it I'm going to make you redundant," I vowed.

"That will never happen," he said coldly.

He left the room and I flipped him off. Why is he needlessly an asshole? No wonder Sylvia can be violent her care takers are the worst, she has Clavicus and Bearnen who teach her violence and Derek who's two faced bastards. I sighed and walked out of the room, it was the end of the school day, so I began heading home. It's a Friday at least so I have a weekend to hang out with Sylvia.
