1 Chapter 1: A new beginning

I was blind from the time I was 6 years old. Years later people would describe colors to me, but the accident happened when I was so young, that I forgot what red looked like. The color of grass and the sky? Nope, didn't remember them either.

Don't feel sorry for me. I stopped feeling sorry for myself a long time ago.

I should have stayed away from cars though! The second accident was much worse. I felt the unspeakably horrible pain in my body, and could smell the scent of blood get stronger as my strength and consciousness faded.

After I came to I couldn't really move much and couldn't speak. Everytime I opened my mouth, I tasted the faint tinge of iron in the liquid I was inhaling.

The voices I could hear were all muffled like I was under water. Which, of course, is crazy! I could hear one small voice which seemed so much closer than all the other voices thus far. There was also this constant drumming coming from nearby. Not hard like a band, but a sort of soothing sound that lulled me to sleep. The positive is that I was never cold and it didn't smell like hospital antiseptic; didn't smell like anything actually.

I've been in enough hospitals to hate the coldness and the smell associated with them. If I wasn't in a coma (or so I thought) it wouldn't have been too bad of a place to stay.

And so I thought until the walls started moving, the drumming got a lot faster, and the muffled sounds got louder.

Once I was maneuvered down a tube and squished and squeezed into a cold aired space, I finally realized that I had been reborn. I didn't start crying until I realized that I still couldn't see! I had been reborn blind! 'What kind of joke is this?' I asked myself.

Cold, tired, and feeling squeezed. Don't judge me for balling my eyes out! Rubbed, I felt clean, but still very cold. The scent in the air had a woodsy air heavily covered in the smell of blood.

I felt slightly better when I was wrapped up in a warm cloth- I'm guessing a blanket, but not sure. It could have been a towel. I felt even more secure when they placed me in the arms of someone who wasn't up and moving. I thought the other hands might drop me!

The voices around me were speaking, but I couldn't understand what they were saying! The voices were speaking didn't sound the least bit familiar.
